Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Wedding Photographer Reveals Moments From Behind-the-Scenes

You may have thought you already saw and knew everything about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding, but turns out there’s a lot that went on behind-the-scenes.

In a recent interview with Evening Standard, the royals’ official wedding photographer Alexi Lubomirski chatted about his experience and shared some rules that needed to be followed, including a strict one which didn’t allow for any PDA.

“There are definitely boundaries,” he told told the publication. “You can’t have them kissing, you can’t have them screaming and running through the garden, and obviously you have to see the ring. But I think it’s within those guidelines that the creativity happens.”

But despite not being allowed to show their affections for one another—apart from that big kiss as they exited their wedding chapel—Lubomirski said the couple’s magnetic chemistry spoke for itself.

“[Prince Harry] would be talking and she would look at him, she’d be smiling at what he said, and then he’d look at her and there’d be this spark between them,” he explained. “I get tingles just thinking about it. They were a young couple in love and it was so cute.”

Lubomirski still did his best to keep the photos “authentic” to the Duke and Duchess. “They are a very modern couple and they have an authenticity to them, so I knew I wanted to break how they were seated,” he shared. “Instead of having the rugby team photo as it were, I wanted to have this sort of random rhythm, like waves.”

As for the couple’s iconic photo on the steps, Lubomirski said he captured it just minutes before the photoshoot was over.

“The Palace official was looking at me saying, ‘We’re going to have to turn around soon,’ and I was like, okay, okay, ‘Just sit down on these stairs.’ And they literally just sort of slumped down, laughing,” he recalled. “Sort of looking at each other going, ‘Oh my god, we’re married.’”

Ugh, these two!

Everything We Know About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Battle With the Tabloids

Just as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were wrapping up their very successful royal tour in southern Africa—which featured speeches about women’s empowerment, conservation, and baby Archie’s first official royal engagement—it was announced that Markle was suing the British tabloid Mail on Sunday for publishing a private letter she sent to her father, Thomas Markle, after the royal wedding in 2018.

“We have initiated legal proceedings against the Mail on Sunday, and its parent company Associated Newspapers, over the intrusive and unlawful publication of a private letter written by the Duchess of Sussex, which is part of a campaign by this media group to publish false and deliberately derogatory stories about her, as well as her husband,” a legal spokesperson for the couple said in a statement. “Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve this issue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach of privacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda.”

Later in the week, it was confirmed by Buckingham Palace that Harry filed a lawsuit of his own over an alleged phone and voicemail hacking in the early 2000s.

Let’s break down what’s going on here.

What exactly are these two lawsuits?

As you probably remember, there was a lot of drama surrounding Markle’s father in the weeks leading up to the wedding. It was revealed that he had staged photos to sell to the tabloids, reportedly suffered a heart attack, and eventually pulled out of attending the wedding and walking his daughter down the aisle. Since then, he has continued to give numerous interviews to tabloids and talk shows, including one about the letter Meghan wrote to him asking him to stop going to the press, per the Guardian.

“The contents of a private letter were published unlawfully in an intentionally destructive manner to manipulate you, the reader, and further the divisive agenda of the media group in question,” Harry said in a statement. “In addition to their unlawful publication of this private document, they purposely misled you by strategically omitting select paragraphs, specific sentences, and even singular words to mask the lies they had perpetuated for over a year.”

We don’t know a lot of details about Harry’s case as of yet, but it dates back to a major phone-hacking scandal in Britain by the Sun and now-defunct News of the World that involved a number of members of the royal family, as well as other celebrities. “We confirm that a claim has been issued by the Duke of Sussex,” a spokesperson for News Group Newspapers told the BBC in a statement. “We have no further comment to make at the current time.”

All the Details on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Weekend Getaway to Rome

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are about to embark on their first royal tour since welcoming baby Archie Harrison in May. But before they head out on official business, the couple took a quick trip to Rome for a very special reason.

Markle and Harry flew to Italy to attend the glamorous wedding of their good friend, fashion designer Misha Nonoo — who is rumored to be the person who set the couple up on their first blind date.

The Daily Mail reports that while in Rome the royals stayed at the luxurious Hotel Vilon, located near the Spanish Steps and the famous Trevi Fountaion. Their room reportedly cost approximately $1500 per night. “There have been plain-clothes police outside the hotel for days. They have been standing around trying not to act suspicious but we all know what’s going on – there are celebrities staying at the hotel,” a local, Simona Magliocco, told the paper.

Nonoo and her now-husband, Mikey Hess, reportedly hosted a pre-wedding lunch for close friends, including the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The actual wedding ceremony took place on Friday evening at sunset. The Sussexes were not the only bold-faced couple on the guest list, however. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom, Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, and Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were also in attendance, along with princesses Eugenie and Beatrice.

Security was tight and very few photos have emerged, but from shots the Daily Mail obtained, royal fans were able to determine that the Duchess wore a black, puff sleeve tulle Valentino gown with jeweled embroidery that retails for around $13,000.

While (sadly) the royals don’t post about private matters like a friend’s wedding on Instagram, Markle was still able to give Nonoo a subtle nod on social media. In a recent post, Markle’s official Instagram account shared a pic of the two hugging during last week’s launch event for Markle’s capsule collection, The Smart Set, which benefits her royal patronage, Smart Works. Nonoo designed the white blouse included in the collection (and worn by Markle). (The Duchess famously wore Nonoo’s “Husband Shirt” during her first official outing with Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto.)

Next up for Team Sussex: Africa—which means many, many outfits for us to ogle and causes to learn about.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Latest Vacation Is Causing Controversy

Elton John is not here for the latest controversy surrounding Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

For context: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex just returned from a vacation at John’s palatial estate in the South of France. They traveled to and from the quick jaunt via private jet, which some are branding as hypocritical due to the couple’s environmentalism work. One tabloid even referred to Prince Harry and Markle’s mode of transportation as “gas-guzzling.”

But John is coming to the royals’ defense. It turns out the pop icon both paid for Markle and Prince Harry’s private jet and ensured it was carbon neutral—thus shutting down all the people who think they aren’t practicing what they preach. (According to the cyber-gear initiative Go Green, making something “carbon neutral” means calculating how much a flight makes in greenhouse emissions and then donating that amount to a charity or project that’s striving to reduce emissions.)

“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” John wrote on Twitter. “Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales, was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death. After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.”

John continued, “To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™. I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Home Renovations Cost Taxpayers Over $3 Million

Meghan Markle‘s engagement ring isn’t the only thing in her life that’s recently been redesigned. A new report released by the royal family is giving us all some new details about the renovations to her and Prince Harry‘s new house.

The Sovereign Grant Report is basically a breakdown of spending by the royal family that comes from public funds. (The family, of course, also has enormous personal wealth that is not funded by the taxpayers, and Markle had amassed her own money before marrying Harry last year.)

The report shows that the renovations to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, a gift to the Sussexes from Queen Elizabeth II, cost over $3 million. (That’s in U.S. dollars—the renovations are about 2.4 million pounds.) Obviously, that’s a lot of money and more than most of us could ever imagine spending on…anything. But the home was built all the way back in 1801 and had previously been broken down into multiple apartments, necessitating a conversion back into a single home. “A very large proportion of the ceiling beams and floor joists were defective and had to be replaced,” a source told People. Updates were also necessary for the heating, water, and electrical systems to get them up to modern standards.

And some of these renovations to the historic structure were going to be necessary, even if Markle, Harry, and baby Archie weren’t calling it home. “The property had not been the subject of work for some years and had already been earmarked for renovation in line with our responsibility to maintain the condition of the occupied Royal Palaces Estate,” Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, told reporters at Buckingham Palace.

Per People, British taxpayer money funded the structural renovations of the home including the exterior doors, windows, and walls and upgrading some of the other buildings on the property. But “anything moveable,” for example, was paid for personally by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. “All fixtures and fittings were paid for by their Royal Highnesses,” a royal source told the magazine. “Curtains, furnishings—all that would be paid separately, paid privately.”

“If a member of the royal family says, ‘We want a better kitchen than you’re prepared to provide with public money,’ then that would fall to them privately and they would have to meet the cost,” the source continues. “If they want that higher specification, they have to pay the extra.” Apparently those rumors of a yoga studio with a “floating” floor were simply that, rumors, as that luxe feature is not mentioned in the report.

We Just Got a Bunch of Details About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's New Life as Parents

Much to the delight of royals fans, Meghan Markle put her maternity leave on pause over the weekend to make an appearance at Trooping the Colour, wearing her wedding dress designer, Givenchy, and sporting a new ring that many believe was a gift from her husband, Prince Harry. It was the first time we’ve seen the Duchess of Sussex since she and Prince Harry introduced the world to their son, Archie Harrison. “This is similar to the Duchess of Cambridge’s maternity leave where she made a few appearances at family and personal events (Trooping the Colour and Wimbledon) but did not carry out any official duties as a member of the Royal Family during maternity leave,” a source told Elle.

Sources also tell Elle that Markle and Prince Harry are happily settling into parenthood. “[Archie] is the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen. They couldn’t be happier,” one insider said. The report also mentions that the Duchess of Sussex is breastfeeding and that Prince Harry is very involved with everything, including diaper changes. He’s “enjoying every minute of it,” according to a source, and “Meghan is radiant, taking each day one day at a time…what strikes me most is this authentic peacefulness that has settled within her.”

Prince Harry’s good friend, Nacho Figueras says, per Elle, “I met the baby in London before playing polo with [Prince Harry] in Rome, and he was very good with the baby. He’s a natural, he knows what to do. He’s already an amazing father.”

Sources tell Elle that the Sussexes are enjoying their new home in Windsor, and that it is “providing the family with so much happiness”: “It is quiet and out of the hustle and bustle of London. For them all to be able to walk freely and enjoy the beautiful area is such a sensational treat.”

Reportedly, Archie has had a quite a few visitors, including Kate Middleton and Prince William, Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and Markle’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney, along with her daughter Ivy, who was a bridesmaid at Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding last year.

As for Markle, a source says she may make “intermittent appearances” while her maternity leave continues—and we may even get our second Archie sighting during his christening in a few weeks. We can’t wait.
