Nancy Pelosi's Red Coat Was Such a Moment, It's Coming Back to Stores in 2019

On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer met with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in the White House to discuss a proposed wall on the southern border and whether Trump would, in fact, shut down the government if he doesn’t get the cash he wants for it.

The conversation, which was televised, quickly turned heated and ultimately ended without a compromise—but with the President accepting and owning the possibility of government shutdown. The Democrats took that as a win. And as soon as images of Pelosi emerging from the West Wing started making the rounds, Twitter was abuzz at the sight of the Speaker-designate’s power look: the sunglasses, the smirk, the impossibly fabulous rust-colored coat. The memes soon followed.

PHOTO: Andrew Harnik/AP/REX/Shutterstock

Someone started a parody account. Director Barry Jenkins wanted to know where to cop. The Boston Globe characterized it as “Big Coat Energy.” The New York Times hypothesized about why, exactly, we were all collectively obsessed with it. Once again, outerwear was the talk of Washington.

The Times was also one of the first to correctly identify the maker of the coat: Max Mara. This wasn’t fresh-off-the-runway, just-hit-stores Max Mara, though—Pelosi’s burnt-red style dates back to 2013. In order to authentically get the House Minority look, you’d have to dig deep into the resale market, scouring the eBay’s, Tradesy’s, and TheRealReal’s of the world to buy the Glamis coat.

Except that late Wednesday afternoon, the Italian fashion house sent out a press release that not only confirmed the origins of Pelosi’s coat but also announced that Max Mara would be reinstating the Glamis into its outerwear collection in 2019. “In a variety of colorways,” no less! A spokesperson for the brand confirmed to Glamour that the decision to bring it back was inspired by Pelosi.

Ian Griffiths, the creative director of Max Mara, issued a statement on the Pelosi sighting too: “You develop an emotional relationship with a coat like nothing else in your wardrobe. I can imagine why Ms. Pelosi chose to wear it for this important moment, and I’m honored.”

Kylie Cosmetics Is Officially Coming to Ulta Beauty

Despite the fact that fans have rarely been able to actually test—or even see—Kylie Jenner’s makeup line in person, it hasn’t deterred shoppers from buying lip kits online like crazy. Really, really crazy. We’re talking dropping $22,775 an hour on makeup kind of crazy. But finally, after nearly two years of waiting, shopping for Kylie Cosmetics is about to become dangerously easier. On November 17, the brand is officially coming to every Ulta Beauty store, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Jenner first announced the news on Twitter back in August, which Ulta also confirmed on Instagram. Fans were understandably freaking out (Jenner’s tweet racked up nearly 20,000 likes in under an hour) and have been waiting for more details ever since.

“I slipped on the wood floors as i ran to my mom to tell her that kylie cosmetics was coming to ulta. im excited,” shared one user. “Take my money now, thanks,” wrote another. Yet another commenter spilled some hilariously real tea on the reality of the announcement: “Kylie just made her last $100 million from this tweet,” they wrote, referring to the recent Forbes estimation that Jenner is only $100 million away from being the youngest “self-made” billionaire ever.

Considering that Kylie Cosmetics is currently estimated to be worth $900 million after less than two years in existence, it’s a huge get for Ulta. It’s the first time Kylie Cosmetics will be available anywhere IRL aside from her own rare pop-up shops. According to The Cut, Ulta’s stock has already gone up since the announcement and hit a 52-week high.

Although it’s still unclear exactly which products will be in stores, you better start getting your wish list ready. As anyone who remembers the product sell-outs and site crashes of the brand’s early days (#tbt to sitting at your computer with your clicking fingers ready every time a new lip kit dropped), it’s clear the demand will only become greater from here.

Get Ready: New Rihanna Music Is Coming

Rihanna—the singer—is back. The multi-hyphenate seems to have grown weary of singlehandedly disrupting entire industries according to her whims, and now appears to be hard at work on some new music. The news comes courtesy of her very own Instagram Stories, where she posted one picture, one video, and one Boomerang showing her in front of the mic. It looks like she isn’t holding back, either: In the posts, she’s traded in her Met Gala-destroying looks for a T-shirt and white-rimmed sunglasses. She also captioned the Boomerang, “Vamp: when breakfast becomes dinner.” She remained otherwise wordless, supposing correctly that the visuals alone would cause the Internet to implode.

It’s unclear whether Rihanna has returned to the studio for a mere late-summer hit or a full album, but she previously gave fans a sneak peek at her musical projects in the works. For her June cover of British Vogue, she revealed that she plans to make a reggae album, with a possible collaborator in record producer Supa Dups. Then, in July, Rolling Stone reported, based on conversations with multiple unnamed sources, that she apparently has two albums on the cutting board: One “devoted to exploring [her] Caribbean roots,” and another that’s “pop-oriented.” Rolling Stone also reported that two unnamed sources have “confirmed” Supa Dups’s involvement, and that Rihanna has gotten a “large number of demos” from top dancehall and reggae producers and singers, including, reportedly, the duo R. City, Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Linton “TJ Records” White, Ricky Blaze, Tyshane “Beam” Thompson, Kranium, and Chronixx.

Rihanna Is Working on a New Album 2

“[Rihanna’s team] have, no lie, 500 records for this project [from] different producers and writers,” one anonymous dancehall producer told Rolling Stone. “They’re only choosing 10 records. They’ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now. I’ve been flying to Miami, flying to L.A., cutting records nonstop for this project.”

“Every artist, every producer, every songwriter in Jamaica or of Jamaican descent has been working on [Rihanna’s album] and has little snippets of publishing or production credits on it,” another anonymous source added.
