Jennifer Aniston's Morning Show Character Is Making Me Embrace the Power Coat

Jennifer Aniston gives one of her best performances ever in Apple TV+’s new series The Morning Show. In it she plays Alex Levy, a long-running morning talk show anchor whose world flips upside down when her co-host becomes embroiled in a #MeToo scandal. As Levy, Aniston is nuanced, complex, and captivating. She also wears a red trench coat in the third episode that I can’t get out of my head.

The coat, which you can see in the clip, below, is perfect, and Alex wears it when she’s grilling the male executives who run her network. “I’ve let you bozos handle this long enough,” she says at one point. “We’re doing things my way.”

Here’s the thing: Alex could’ve worn sweatpants during this scene, and I’d still be terrified—but the red coat adds an extra oomph. So much oomph, in fact, that I’ve decided I need to wear a power coat during all my future arguments.

What is a power coat, you ask? Well, it has to have at least one of these three qualities: (1) structure, (2) a bold color, or (3) long length. The ultimate power coat will have all three, like Alex’s.

These celebrities, below, have all embraced the, well, power of the power coat. Take a look for yourself, and shop accordingly.

With this jacket, you could fight literal crimes.

Are These Incredibly Comfortable Pants From Amazon the Next ‘Amazon Coat’?

When it comes to pants, I’ve never shopped for comfort. I love leather pants that I can barely sit in and make incredibly loud squeaky noises as I walk. I love pants that are oversized to the point of inconvenience. I love vintage jeans so worn-in they rip right near my butt after only a handful of wears. In college, when everyone else was wearing sweats, I’d show up to class in thrifted flared denim from the ’70s that I had dragged through the snow. Some people have a high tolerance for uncomfortable heels (not me!)—mine is for uncomfortable pants.

This also means I don’t have a pair of pants I can just “throw on and go.” My beloved collection requires a little bit more planning. But on super-lazy days, that can be a bummer.

One day, as I was scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled across a photo of Eva Chen (the platform’s director of fashion partnerships)—she was on vacation, looking chic as hell in a pair of wide-leg pants with an elastic waist.

Not long after, she posted again, wearing the same pants but in a different color. At first glance, they weren’t something I’d typically wear—but they just looked so comfortable. I really, really wanted them.

I wasn’t the only one. Every time: Eva Chen wore them, her comments section was flooded with inquiries about the pants. “Can you take pity on my and link your pants one more time??” one user begged. Another asked, “I need these pants!!! Are they tagged?” And some were so astounded by the pants they couldn’t even write in complete sentences with comments like, “Pants!!!! PLS!!!!!”

Eventually, Chen shared the link to the magical pants in her Instagram Story. Turns out, they are $28—and from Amazon.

Jennifer Lopez Wore a $46 Matching Set With a $3,000 Coat

Some of Jennifer Lopez‘s most memorable looks are custom, tailored-to-perfection creations that only she could wear. (She’s not accepting a Fashion Icon award later this year for nothing.) But some of our personal favorites happen off the red carpet, when she’s going to meetings with Alex Rodriguez or walking to and from a film set. That’s when she mixes her designer staples with much more affordable pieces, like the $100,000 Birkin bag she wore with $60 sunglasses—or a $3,000 coat with a $46 set from an Instagram brand.

J.Lo was photographed in New York City this week on the set of her upcoming film Hustlers. She kept her off-duty outfit simple—a cropped top, some high-waist leggings, a camel coat, and a pair of sneakers.

JUJU

Most of what she was wearing was designer. Her coat she got from Max Mara. (She and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have that in common!) The Manuela wrap style retails for $2,950. Her carryall was also in the four-figure range—the same Christian Louboutin tote will set you back $2,390 at Nordstrom. The sneakers, meanwhile, were Valentino, and are priced at $895.

But the centerpiece of the outfit was far more affordable: J.Lo got her matching top-and-leggings set from Naked Wardrobe, the fast-fashion label with a massive Instagram following. (Fans include Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and Iskra Lawrence.) And it’ll cost you only $46.

J.Lo wore Naked Wardrobe’s tight and turtleneck set, which is still available for purchase on the brand’s website.

She’s worn the line’s products before—to run errands, to shop with her kids, to work out…. So it’s safe to assume she’s a fan.

J.Lo finished her high-low outfit off with another affordable item, one she actually designed—a pair of sunglasses from her collaboration with Quay, which retail for $60.

Angelina Jolie Wore a $138 Everlane Trench Coat With $350 Sunglasses

Angelina Jolie‘s most talked-about fashion moments often involve the red carpet. (She did singlehandedly reinvent the leg-slit gown, after all.) But you shouldn’t be sleeping on her off-duty style. The actress is always incorporating a range of polished, accessible items into her wardrobe—including pieces from a brand favored by Meghan Markle and Amal Clooney.

Over the weekend, Jolie was photographed while shopping in Los Angeles with her daughter, Vivian. According to Hollywood Life* reports, she visited a flower market, wearing a casual combination of all your favorite essentials: trench coat, jeans, ballet flats, and aviator sunglasses.

JOGA, JOLA, ENAV

Jolie’s look was a truly quintessential spring outfit. The best part, though? The credits include a mix of high and low, many of which are still shoppable.

Only two pieces have been ID’d so far—her trench and her sunglasses. The former is the Drape Trench Coat from ethical fashion brand Everlane. It currently retails for $138, and is one of the best-reviewed items on the website website.

As it turns out, Jolie is a longtime Everlane fan: She’s been seen carrying its Petra Tote, which is no longer sold, for several years; and has been spotted wearing the brand’s editor heels for press junkets and weekend errands, as well as its modern loafers to the airport.

But back to this most recent high/low moment: The “high” of Jolie’s outfit came from her sleek sunnies. The frames are from Dior and retail for $350.

Orolay Thickened Down Jacket Review: Why Everyone Has This $130 Amazon Coat

There’s no place like the Internet for surprisingly in-depth reviews for pretty much any kind of product, from cosmetics to sneakers. When people really love an item, you’ll catch on quick—because all of a sudden you see it everywhere. For the second winter in a row, there’s no question about what the Very Best Coat is: No jacket is quite as hyped up as that one quilted puffer from Amazon.

It’s technically called the Women’s Thickened Down Jacket, by Chinese outerwear brand Orolay, but Internet users lovingly refer to it as “the Amazon Coat.” By all means, it’s a fairly standard winter coat—waterproof and slightly oversize, lined, with large pockets, available in multiple colorways. Perhaps its most important quality, though, is that it’s instantly shoppable (and very much available) on Amazon. You shouldn’t mistake this for yet another impulse buy, though. According to Amazon reviewers, Orolay’s Women’s Thickened Down Jacket is the best coat they’ve ever found.

Currently, this Orolay coat ranked as the number-one best-seller on Amazon’s site. It has an average rating of 4.2 stars, with 5,958 customers chiming in in the review section at press time. From 2014 until now, it’s earned comments like “I absolutely LOVE this jacket” and “I am so in love with this coat” consistently. (Can any other hyped-up fashion drop say that?)

All the excitement around the Amazon Coat isn’t exactly new: It’s been featured in New York magazine, where it was praised by Neiman Marcus fashion director Ana Maria Pimentel and Knockout Beauty founder Cayli Cavaco.

People sure know about it now—its second winter on the market has brought the Amazon Coat even more attention, and an Instagram account to boot.

Nancy Pelosi MaxMara Coat: Alternative Options To Buy Now

During a meeting at the White House Wednesday, photos of Nancy Pelosi emerged that set the internet on fire thanks to a five-year-old burnt orange coat, which—for reasons you’ll see in a moment—will henceforth be referred to simply as The Coat.

The Coat was such a thing, that director Barry Jenkins wrote a love letter to it via tweet. “And she knew exactly what she was doing wearing THIS coat on THIS day coming out of THAT room, placing THOSE shades on JUST so.”

Elsewhere, Instagrams like ‘@excellentcoatsonirritatedwomen’ gained thousands of followers overnight. Anthropomorphic Twitter accounts like Nancy Pelosi’s Red Coat and I Am Nancy Pelosi’s Coat were born.

The attention was so overwhelming, in fact, that MaxMara—the label behind The Coat—told us they’d be re-releasing it next year. But if waiting for The Coat isn’t in your plans, here are 9 styles to shop now that are highly similar, and will give you the same powerful vibe as Mrs. Pelosi strutting out of the White House.
