Who said the red carpet has to be entirely fantasy? Yes, a lot of the incredible fashion we see waltzing for the photographers is unattainable—because it’s a sample size, because it’s exorbitantly expensive, because it’s one-of-one (and doesn’t even have a price tag)… The list goes on and before we know it, awards season is over. But the dedicated red carpet spectator knows to keep an eye out for those little details, recurring references, and micro-trends that come out of these events, because you can get pretty close to emulating the high fashion of your favorite celebrity with just a little bit of extra digging. Some (like the resilience of millennial pink) are more obvious than others (such as Hollywood’s infatuation with feathered accents). Chrissy Teigen Chopped Her Hair for the Grammys 2018 Red Carpet


Just like we can always count on the Grammys red carpet to deliver some fantastic fashion looks (see Lady Gaga; Cardi B), so too can we depend on Chrissy Teigen to keep things interesting at all times. Sometimes that means speaking (and tweeting) her mind, and other times it means arriving on the red carpet with her hair about six inches shorter than when we last saw it.

We got our first glimpse when Chrissy shared a behind-the-scenes video of herself getting ready, in which she’s eating McDonald’s as one does in fancy pajamas when one has a contract with a fast food chain. While her hair is visibly shorter in the video, that’s easily chalked up to the kind of dreamy, swept back updos usually seen during awards season. Or so we thought until she showed up at the Grammys with roughly six million sequins (a Yanina Couture design) draped over her bump—working her new bob in all its swishy glory.

The cut comes courtesy of celebrity stylist Jen Atkin, who also teased the look on Instagram. She polled her followers on whether or not they liked blunt cuts while taking a razor to a mystery brunette’s hair. We’re not sure how the poll shook out, but based on these photos, we’ve got a feeling…

Pale Pink Gowns Ruled the 2018 SAG Awards Red Carpet


Oh, you thought we’d move past the millennial pink trend? Well, it appears celebrities aren’t going to let that happen without getting some last bit of mileage off the trendy hue. At the 2018 SAG Awards, many actresses decided to bring back that familiar shade pink, this time through their red-carpet formalwear. Uzo Aduba did so in chiffon (by Christian Siriano), while Connie Britton and Millie Bobby Brown preferred sequins (by Elisabetta Franchi and Calvin Klein by Appointment, respectively). Thanks to its surprising renaissance on the award show circuit, we’re thinking that the #1 color of 2017 might still carry some weight in 2018. Beanie Feldstein Wore Her Prom Dress on the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards Red Carpet


The red carpet at Sunday night’s 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards featured a slew of spectacular looks. One dress on the carpet, however, came from a somewhat unexpected source. Pulling an extreme power move, Lady Bird star Beanie Feldstein decided to forgo a conventional designer gown in favor of her high school prom dress.

“I put it on and it fit, surprisingly maybe better than it did in high school,” she told The Cut. “I looked at myself, and I was like, WHAT!? and my mom and her best friend were just laughing so hard, like, ‘You have to wear it! There’s just no other dress that would be better.’”

Indeed, Feldstein looked extremely elegant in the black Kay Unger gown on the red carpet—a dress that, to be honest, didn’t look a bit out of place among, say, costar Saoirse Ronan’s pink Louis Vuitton gown or Danielle Brooks’’ showstopping sequined Marc Bouwer ensemble.

Feldstein told The Cut that the prom dress felt especially fitting for the Screen Actors Guild Awards—the first time she’ll attend an awards show as a nominee (Lady Bird received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture)—due to her character Julie’s storyline in the film. “It’s just a gorgeous dress, and I love how my character’s story ends at the prom,” she said. “So like, for the first time I’m going to an awards show as a nominee with the cast, it’s like, ‘You gotta wear your prom dress, girl, and honor Julie.’”
