10 Best Self-Tanners That Won't Look Orange—No Matter How Pale You Are

I left my tanning addiction where it belongs—in 2011, along with sunscreens less than SPF 30 and the phrase GTL. In 2018, we now all know the importance of practicing safe sun and wouldn’t dream of passing around baby oil by the pool like its a bottle of rosé. Still, it’s around this time of year, when the weather finally decides to get its act together, that I realize a long winter of tights and a lack of vitamin D has done my pasty skin no favors. I know I’m not alone in this. And yet, finding enough Glamour staffers willing to test self-tanners was shockingly difficult. Chalk it up to the fact that—even after years of innovation—sunless tanners have maintained a bad rap for looking streaky, splotchy, and orange. The good news is that the latest batch of self-tanning foams, towelettes, and creams are anything but—and these testimonies from some former skeptics are proof. Jersey Shore might be back, but the days of looking fake-baked are long gone.

The Best Purple Lipsticks for Pale People

I’m not really one to adhere to the idea of spring cleaning—or cleaning at all really. But when I was futzing through my makeup drawer the other day, I came to a realization: No one really needs 40 tubes of purple lipstick, and yet, I couldn’t part with any of them. Some people in the fashion world would call this a “uniform,” but for me, it’s really just easy. Purple—when in shades of berry, plum, and mauve—always looks good with simple makeup, and, unlike red, I’ve found that undertones are much less difficult to match. Plus, for whatever reason, people don’t really expect to see purple lipsticks, so without fail, I always get compliments. I know this is generally the time everyone says to “Lighten up. It’s spring!”—but I gotta say, the dark side is great. Come join in.

Pale Pink Gowns Ruled the 2018 SAG Awards Red Carpet

Oh, you thought we’d move past the millennial pink trend? Well, it appears celebrities aren’t going to let that happen without getting some last bit of mileage off the trendy hue. At the 2018 SAG Awards, many actresses decided to bring back that familiar shade pink, this time through their red-carpet formalwear. Uzo Aduba did so in chiffon (by Christian Siriano), while Connie Britton and Millie Bobby Brown preferred sequins (by Elisabetta Franchi and Calvin Klein by Appointment, respectively). Thanks to its surprising renaissance on the award show circuit, we’re thinking that the #1 color of 2017 might still carry some weight in 2018. See how seven celebrities wore millennial pink (or pale pink, or light pink—however you call it) at the 2018 SAG Awards.
