Cardi B Found Out About Her 5 Grammy Nominations at Her Court Appearance

There’s truly never a dull moment when it comes to the life of Cardi B, but this week has been especially eventful. First, she dropped the bombshell that she and husband Offset are divorcing. Then she revealed the very first photo of their adorable baby Kulture. Finally, she got nominated for five—five!—Grammys.

But she didn’t get the news in the usual way, say, for instance, by getting a call from her management team. Instead, she was informed of the big news by reporters outside a New York City courtroom where she was making an appearance for assault and reckless endangerment charges stemming from a fight at a strip club in October.

A reporter shouted to a rainbow-wigged Cardi, “How do you feel that you’re nominated for Grammys?”

She responded, “I am? I am? How many nominations?”

When someone yelled out the number, the rapper stuck out her tongue in celebration.

Later she posted video footage of the encounter on Twitter. “This is not How expected to find out I’m nominated for a Grammy ???,” she wrote. “I need a do over ??‍♀️??‍♀️?”

She also put the video on Instagram. “What a way to find out I got 5 Grammy nominations ??? I’m tellin you my life is a movie,” she wrote in the caption. “I work my ass off for this! Win or not at least I had a chance and people was watching and admiring my work. Im Soo happy! THANK YOU!”

She’s the second most-nominated woman this year—behind Brandi Carlile, who has six. Cardi’s up for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for Invasion of Privacy, Record of the Year for “I Like It,” Best Pop/Duo Group Performance for “Girls Like You” with Maroon 5, and Best Rap Performance for “Be Careful.”

Not too shabby—congrats to the star!

Cardi B Just Shared the First Photo of Her Daughter, Kulture—and She's So Cute

In July, Cardi B and Offset welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Kulture Kiari. The Invasion of Privacy rapper has kept the baby out of the spotlight, though, until last night (December 5), when she shared the first photo of her to Instagram.

“My heart,” Cardi B captioned the photo of Kulture, which shows the five-month-old in an all-pink outfit and sitting in a car seat. People are losing it in the comments section, of course. “OMG how cute; she is adorable,” one fan wrote. “Such a little queen,” wrote another.

Check out the sweet photo of Kulture for yourself, below:

This reveal is coming on the heels of Cardi B and Offset announcing their divorce after one year of marriage. “So everybody been bugging me and everything,” she said on Instagram, addressing the speculation about her relationship. “And you know, I been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now . We’re really good friends, and we’re really good business partners, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

She continued, “And we’re really good friends, and, you know, we’re really good business partners, and, you know, he’s always somebody that I run to, to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time. And it’s nobody’s fault. It’s just like I guess we grew out of love. But we’re not together anymore. I don’t know, it might take time to get a divorce. And I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father and yeah.”

Cardi B Just Revealed She and Offset Are Divorcing After 1 Year of Marriage

It’s time to add another couple to the ever-growing list of major celebrity breakups this year. Cardi B took to her Instagram—because, of course she did—last night to announce that she and husband Offset have parted ways after a year of marriage. She posted a short video addressing the matter with the caption, “There you go…peace and love.”

“So, everybody been bugging me and everything. And you know, I been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now,” Cardi said. “We’re really good friends, and we’re really good business partners, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

“And we’re really good friends, and, you know, we’re really good business partners, and, you know, he’s always somebody that I run to, to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other, but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time,” she continued. “And it’s nobody’s fault. It’s just like I guess we grew out of love. But we’re not together anymore. I don’t know, it might take time to get a divorce. And I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father and yeah.”

Cardi B and Offset got married in September 2017 but managed to keep it a secret for months. “There are so many moments that I share with the world and then there are moments that I want to keep for myself,” she wrote on Twitter in June. “Getting married was one of those moments! Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing up to do but we was so in love we didn’t want to lose each other.”

She gave birth to the couple’s daughter in July of this year and seemingly named her in honor of her father: Kulture Kiari Cephus. (Offset’s given name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, and his rap trio Migos released two successful albums titled Culture and Culture II.)

Offset has yet to make a statement about the breakup other than to comment on Cardi’s video with the somewhat cryptic, “Y’all won.”

Cardi B Says She's 'Very Depressed' That She Can't Stop Losing Weight Since Giving Birth

Cardi B recently opened up about some post-pregnancy body changes she’s struggling with. On Thursday, November 15, the Bronx-born rapper went on Instagram Live and shared that she’s been “very depressed” because she’s lost so much weight since the birth of her daughter, Kulture, this July.

“I’ve been very depressed because I cannot stop losing weight,” Cardi said in the video. “And it’s so crazy because when I first gave birth, I did everything to lose my baby weight. I was drinking Teami so it could curb my appetite and now that I lost all the baby weight in my stomach and in my arms and in my face, now I want to gain weight, but now I can’t gain weight because I have a terrible appetite. I can literally go 24 hours without eating.”

She went on to add that part of this discomfort with her weight loss has to do with her past. “I used to look too skinny as a teenager, and I used to hate it and I hate it now,” she said. “It’s been really depressing me, making me sad.”

It’s not the first time Cardi has spoken candidly about how she’s dealing with motherhood. Earlier this year, she dropped out of a high-profile tour alongside Bruno Mars, citing her new baby as the reason. “I also thought that I’d be able to bring [Kulture Kiari] with me on tour,” she explained. “But I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing.”

Still, learning to balance her baby and her career hasn’t stopped Cardi from continuing to dominate the music industry. Her first performance after giving birth stole the show at the 2018 AMAs, and she even dropped a few bars on an explosive new song that features Selena Gomez. She also just landed a role on Netflix’s upcoming hip hop competition series and launched a collection with Fashion Nova.

Cardi may be figuring some things out still, but she’s got her career on lock.

Cardi B Is Back With a New Song Because ‘I Got a Baby, I Need Some Money’

It looks like Cardi B caught a whiff of the Internet frenzy that ensued after she announced her new single “Money,” on Monday. Instead of making fans wait anxiously until Thursday, as she originally teased, the Bronx phenom decided to gift the world with the track two days ahead of schedule.

And if you were worried that the song might have a tough time living up to the opulent, ice-heavy artwork that she debuted on Instagram, we’re happy to report that “Money” is an absolute banger (insert sign of relief here). This is the first new solo material Cardi has released since her juggernaut debut album Invasion of Privacy in April, and a lot has changed for the rapper since then — a lot of which she addresses in the song.

First, she’s rich. Very, very rich (the song isn’t called “No Money,” after all). “I was born to flex / Diamonds on my neck / I like boardin’ jets / I like mornin’ sex / But nothing in this world that I like more than checks,” she raps over a bass-heavy, stripped-down beat courtesy of CB2.

She also addresses her new role as the mother of Kulture, the baby girl she had with Migos rapper Offset in July. “I got a baby, I need some money, yeah / I need cheese for my egg / All y’all bitches in trouble / Bring brass knuckles to the scuffle.”

Most notably, the song marks Cardi B’s return to the hardcore New York boom-bap sound that defined her breakout single, “Bodak Yellow,” after she took a brief pop hiatus with her smash hit “I Like It.” So, is it possible to release the song of the summer well into October? We’re about to find out. Global warming, y’all.

Cardi B Giving Away Free Coats in Brooklyn Is an Inspiration

By now, we know we can count on Cardi B to add some brightness to the world, even when things are at their gloomiest (just spend a half hour on her social media accounts if you don’t believe us). But this week, the Bronx-born rapper went above and beyond on the delightfulness scale by hitting the streets of New York and handing out hundreds of coats and sneakers to people in need.

According to WABC, Cardi was seen on Thursday at the Marlboro Houses, a housing complex in Gravesend, New York, where a crowd had gathered to get a glimpse (and selfies) with the hip-hop queen. The swell of people surprised Cardi, who had shown up to help the community as temperatures drop over the weekend (the National Weather Service had issued a freeze warning in parts of upstate New York.)

“I didn’t know it was gonna be so big,” Cardi B told WABC. “My homeboy Chuck, he told me, ‘Hey, let’s give out coats to our community, I know somebody who wants to give out coats in Marlboro,’ and I said, ‘I’m pulling out, what’s up?'”

Billboard reports that some of the coats and shoes were donated with help from organizations such as NY Tent Sale, Trax NYC, and Daniel’s Leather. The event was set up by friends of Cardi, and she made it out—despite arriving four hours late because of a scheduled photo shoot. Videos show her rolling in full of excitement and ready to help.

“You gotta support the ppl who supported you,” Cardi B says in footage while handing out the items.

Cardi took to Instagram later to thank people for braving the cold to see her, and indicated this isn’t the last time we’ll see her out and about doing good deeds: “IT WAS LIT IN MARLBORO TODAY !My Hat @astonmartinchuck hit me up a couple of days ago about a coat giveaway we couldn’t believe how big this was and how many people pulled up, i wasn’t ready??!Thanks Marlboro! I shot RED BARZ & PULL UP ON ME out here .I will be back before the year end .THANKS @traxnyc @Astonmartinchuck @danielsleather @nytentsale @mr_Footwork @bg_chopwhop FOR putting this together and the Marlboro community ?.I can’t wait to this in my borough next BX.”

The charitable giving comes just after Cardi celebrated her 26th birthday with the most extravagant surprise party ever, courtesy of her husband, rapper Offset.
