In a world where trends are coming and going faster than ever, the fashion set doesn’t want to necessarily wait six months to wear the looks they were super excited about during Fashion Week. They’re seeing the spring 2020 collections in New York, London, and Milan now, which won’t be in stores until early next year. But that isn’t stopping them from wearing tangerine, polka dots, and other consistent themes we’ve been seeing on the runway for the season. And it shouldn’t stop you, either.
From smock dresses to tiered skirts, here are six spring 2020 fashion trends you can invest in right now. They all actually work pretty well for fall (think sheer blouses over turtlenecks, asymmetric hems under oversized coats), so there’s no reason to wait.
Not sure if you’ve heard, but 2019 has been Rihanna’s year: She launched a luxury fashion brand with LVMH (the first woman of color to do so) and hosted a lingerie show during Fashion Week that had the entire industry buzzing (and marking their calendars for September 20 so they could watch the whole spectacle over again). Rihanna’s been busy. And now, she’s bestowing yet another gift onto us, her loyal followers: Her Savage x Fenty lingerie is now available to shop on Amazon.
Rihanna herself opened the Savage x Fenty show dancing in a long-sleeve mesh bodysuit, reminding everyone that, even if she hasn’t been on tour, in a couple years, she’s still got it. What followed was a 45-minute long runway-slash-performance featuring models of all different skin tones, sizes, and abilities—all wearing Savage x Fenty bras, underwear, and bodysuits, of course. You might have to wait a few more days to stream it on Amazon Prime, but you can start shopping the pieces in the brand’s Fall 2019 collection, which were showcased that night, on Amazon today.

While you might expect the line to be over the top, it’s surprisingly minimal and comprises only four products: Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powders, RIP Lip Liners, Le Riot Glosses, and Eye-lie-ner Liquid Eyeliner. The products were mostly inspired by what Gaga and Tanno found to be lacking in the market, as well as some of Gaga’s necessities. And, of course, they were all “Gaga tested” on the star and her dancers during her Enigma shows. If they’re strong enough to withstand that, they should work for us.

Gaga and Tanno couldn’t find a glitter that stayed put for an entire show yet came off with a single wipe, so they created one. These multi-use pigments can be used all over your face (Gaga likes to use the shade Rose B*tch on her eyes, lips, and cheeks) and don’t budge once set. Tanno likes a brush to apply it, but you can also use your fingers, as long as you shake them before using them.

“As a huge Gaga stan, I had really high hopes for this collection, and I have to say it was a little caught off guard by how minimal it was when I saw the photos. But, having held it in my hands, the simple black packaging feels special and sophisticated. I patted Legend, a stunning gold, on my lids with a brush, and used Aphrodite, a rose quartz, on my cheeks as a highlighter.
For such shimmery products they have no grit or tackiness, they dry in seconds and feel like I have nothing on. As a highlight I think they’re a little too glittery, or at least for day time, but I really love the gold on my eyes. It looks almost molten, and the shine can be seen from across the room. I’ve been touching my eyes all day and the glitter hasn’t budged or rained down my face. I also used the Lip Liner in En Pointe to overline and fill in my lips, and loved how creamy it was yet still had great definition. The biggest hair trend right now has nothing to do with a haircut or color—it’s actually all about accessories, specifically pearl hair clips. It started out as trickle: First scrunchies made their long-awaited return at Mansur Gavriel’s spring 2018 show, then Prada sent padded satin headbands down the runway. Soon after, other hair accessories from the ’90s started showing up everywhere. Think snap clips, bedazzled bobby pins, hair barrettes—sometimes worn all at once.
There are so many hair accessories to choose from now, it’s slightly overwhelming, but if you need a good place to start, pearl hair clips are where it’s at. They immediately dress up any look but don’t feel quite as proper as string of pearls (just look at the latest Rodarte lookbook for proof). Not only are they easy to wear—styling is as simple as popping one on and you’re done—they can also be styled in endless ways.
If you don’t like your hair in your face, you can easily style one on each side.
Take a page from hairstylist Justine Marjan and stack as many as you can along a ponytail or one side of your hairline. It might feel like too much as you’re doing it, but after you’ve got them all on, it actually looks intentional not to mention incredibly chic.
But if that’s too much, you can be more subtle and tuck a bobby pin behind your ear.
Bonus: since so many pearl clips are sold in sets, it makes them easy to mix and match.
