A creamy, pigmented, long-wearing, and Gaga-approved lipstick sounds almost too good to be true, so we had Glamour editors put them to the test. Read on for our honest thoughts.

The lip crayon effortlessly glided along my lips, and the gorgeous maroon Pusher complimented my complexion perfectly. A single layer was all I needed, acting as both a lip liner and lipstick (no blotting necessary). The crayon itself is also a twist up, which takes the drag out of searching for that little sharpener of yours that has conveniently made its way to the dark abyss (also known as the bottom of your makeup bag). I’ve become a big fan of lip crayons lately because they’re easy to layer over lip gloss for a tinted, almost blurred-lip effect. One downside is that the color doesn’t tend to last, though. But not with this. The color stays in place throughout the day, and I like to dab any extra onto the apples of my cheeks to make myself look alive. Typically I’d go for a creamier crayon (this runs a little drier since it’s a true matte formula), but it’s a great Swiss Army Knife-style lip product to keep in your bag. —Brionna Jimerson, associate social media manager

While I’m eagerly awaiting LG6, I was happy to have something new from Gaga to tide me over. I’ve been avoiding matte lipsticks like the plague this winter, so I was a little nervous, but this one is surprisingly smooth. It glided right on and didn’t feel tight whatsoever. It’s crazy pigmented, I only needed one swipe for opaque coverage. My one gripe was that it was a little tricky to apply a crisp line, but that’s nothing that can’t be fixed with some lip liner. —Bella Cacciatore, beauty associate

This is the first Haus Laboratories product I’ve tried, and I enjoyed the functionality of the lipstick. The crayon is retractable and I also like that I could change the angle of the lipstick to line my lips and then fill it. It applied smoothly, but clung to some dry spots, so I liked that the formula was buildable. You can wear it more sheer when your lips are chapped or bold when they’re hydrated. —Khaliha Hawkins, producer

I recently got a Hydrafacial that did wonders for my skin, but left my lips dry and cracked. So the first time I tried this, it didn’t immediately wow me. Even though the color was incredible (love a plummy-berry!), the formula settled into chapped spots, which made it look patchy. The next time I took Gaga’s makeup artist’s advice by slicking on a thick balm and blotting first. The difference was night and day. It’s hard to keep up with all the celebrity beauty drops these days, but this matte lip crayon didn’t disappoint. I’m a sucker for nudes, and this dusty pink shade reminds me of my all-time favorite (now discontinued) lipstick, MAC Doe. Haus Laboratories Review: What To Buy From Lady Gaga's Makeup Line


While you might expect the line to be over the top, it’s surprisingly minimal and comprises only four products: Glam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powders, RIP Lip Liners, Le Riot Glosses, and Eye-lie-ner Liquid Eyeliner. The products were mostly inspired by what Gaga and Tanno found to be lacking in the market, as well as some of Gaga’s necessities. And, of course, they were all “Gaga tested” on the star and her dancers during her Enigma shows. If they’re strong enough to withstand that, they should work for us.

We had Glamour editors ranging from casual listeners to super fans put the products to the test to see what’s worth your money. Read on for our honest reviews.

Gaga and Tanno couldn’t find a glitter that stayed put for an entire show yet came off with a single wipe, so they created one. These multi-use pigments can be used all over your face (Gaga likes to use the shade Rose B*tch on her eyes, lips, and cheeks) and don’t budge once set. Tanno likes a brush to apply it, but you can also use your fingers, as long as you shake them before using them.

“As a huge Gaga stan, I had really high hopes for this collection, and I have to say it was a little caught off guard by how minimal it was when I saw the photos. But, having held it in my hands, the simple black packaging feels special and sophisticated. I patted Legend, a stunning gold, on my lids with a brush, and used Aphrodite, a rose quartz, on my cheeks as a highlighter.

For such shimmery products they have no grit or tackiness, they dry in seconds and feel like I have nothing on. As a highlight I think they’re a little too glittery, or at least for day time, but I really love the gold on my eyes. It looks almost molten, and the shine can be seen from across the room. I’ve been touching my eyes all day and the glitter hasn’t budged or rained down my face. I also used the Lip Liner in En Pointe to overline and fill in my lips, and loved how creamy it was yet still had great definition. “In an actual huge surprise to me, pink shimmery eyeshadow has become a mainstay in my beauty routine summer. I love that it brings out the green in my eyes and it always feels a little more special than a basic neutral. Now I’ve got another to add to my rotation, because this shade is stupid pretty. I love that the applicator is slightly tipped and comes to a point at the end, which makes it easy to brush on without any thought—both on your lids and as underliner. It was a smidge creasy on my oily eyelids by 5 P.M., but nothing a quick swipe of my finger couldn’t fix. I totally get why this one is Gaga’s favorite.” —Lindsay Schallon, senior beauty editor

Everything We Know About Haus Laboratories, Lady Gaga’s Beauty Line


“The last thing the world needs is another beauty brand, but that’s too bad,” says Lady Gaga in a video posted today on her Instagram account, announcing the long-awaited drop of her makeup line, Haus Laboratories. “They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But at Haus Laboratories, we say beauty is how you see yourself.” The video features the superstar dancing with a crowd of downtown-cool models of various gender expressions wearing metallic makeup looks.

Rumors about Gaga’s line have been swirling for months—the latest being leaked photos over the weekend that indicate visuals may or may not be Photoshop-free—but today Little Monsters are finally getting some answers. In addition to the campaign video, Gaga revealed to Business of Fashion that her line would be called Haus Laboratories, not Haus Beauty, as many fans had suspected.

Fans will be able to get the line with two-day shipping, as it will be the first major beauty brand to launch exclusively on Amazon, which Gaga credits with giving her full creative control. The products will also be available on Haus Labs’ own website when the line launches in September.

We have limited details on the products themselves, but from the video we’re guessing there will be glitter involved. There are definitely lip glosses, which will retail for $16, lip colors, and allover colors in six shades according to Business of Fashion. Kits of all three products will be available for $49, and all the products will be available for preorder starting on Amazon Prime Day, July 15.

While we might still be guessing when it comes to actual product, Gaga’s messaging is extremely clear: This is not your typical beauty line, this is about self expression. “I have a platform in the world,” she told Business of Fashion. “God gave me this voice for a reason, I don’t know why, I ask myself that question all the time, but I’m sure as hell not going to put out a beauty brand that is going to drive insecurity and fear into people. This is about liberation.”
