Brad Pitt Showed Up to Jennifer Aniston's 50th Birthday Party, and Twitter Freaked Out

If there’s anyone who deserves to throw a hell of a 50th birthday party, it’s Jennifer Aniston: She’s a huge star, defined cool American style—and she’s put up with years of straight-up rude headlines, whether they were Brangelina adjacent or asking once again when she’d have kids (she’s happily child-free). Aniston, of course, also happened to be married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005, and it’s something people kind of can’t let go of. Two years after Brangelina split in 2016, Aniston broke up with husband Justin Theroux last February, which has sparked all sorts of “rekindling the romance” headlines. All this to say, she puts up with a lot as she lives her life—and nothing says “50 will be my best year yet” like a headline-making West Hollywood hotel rager.

It was reportedly an actual who’s who of a guest list: George and Amal Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres, Demi Moore, Barbra Streisand, Jon Hamm, Laura Dern, Charlie Day, Orlando Bloom, Tom Ford, Diane Keaton, John Mayer, Keith Richards, Reese Witherspoon—basically everyone you’d want to invite to your iconic milestone celebration. I mean, everyone in Hollywood turned out. What we might not have expected, though, is that Brad would show up to it.

Pictures exist of Jen wearing a black jumpsuit (gotta love a good party jumpsuit), while Brad was reportedly doing his usual newsboy cap and long hair thing. The back of his head, the one true Pitt sighting captured from the night, can be viewed here. Here’s what else we know, which is not much: According to W, “He arrived in a black SUV and was dropped off at the front door of the hotel. Literally nothing else has been made public.”

Speaking as someone who’s happily, platonically friends—super-close friends, even—with her ex, it is entirely possible that two people who once dated can still see each other as people at the end of all of it and hang out. After all, hopefully you were dating them in part because they were a good, fun person. I personally think it’s very nice that he showed up!

Twitter, needless to say, had some thoughts.

There was outright GIF glee:

A lot of wishing for once was:

Some using their powers of clairvoyance way too early:

And some people pointing out the obvious, because it’s Hollywood, and everyone’s hot, and the dating pool is only so big:

Also there was this voice of reason, embodied by a purple heart as big as its soul:

Anyway, I hope Aniston wished for everyone to leave her alone about this this year as she blew out the candles. Happy birthday, you icon.

So About the Rumor That Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt Are Dating…

A rumor popped up last week that Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt, two of the hottest people on Earth, are dating. According to The Sun, the A-list actors were set up by Theron’s ex-fiancé Sean Penn and have been hanging out since December. Their potential union, though, is like staring into the literal sun. Seriously, Theron and Pitt’s combined beauty is just too much for us mere mortals to handle! Imagine walking down the street and seeing them hold hands. I’d lose control of my limbs! How would our minds even process such hotness joining forces?

Well, it looks like we don’t have to worry about this now. Both People magazine and Entertainment Tonight report the dating rumors between Theron and Pitt are false.

Per People, the two stars met while filming an ad for Breitling watches but they’ve never been romantically involved. “They did a shoot together six months ago,” a source tells the magazine. “They have not been out together recently, and were never dating. Reports of them being involved romantically are false.” This source also added The Sun‘s claim that Penn set up Theron and Pitt “couldn’t be more false.”

ET doubled down on this, too, with a source telling the outlet, “They are both very single at the moment so it’s no surprise people are talking romance. They truly would make a Hollywood power couple, but at this point, they’re friends.”

“Brad and Charlize have known each other for years and recently became even better friends after working together,” ET‘s source added, referring to the Breitling campaign. “They enjoy each other’s company and connect on many levels. Brad and Charlize have a lot of mutual friends and share their love of acting, but neither of them are ready for a serious relationship right now.”

Well, that settles things, I guess. Here’s the Breitling commercial both People and ET reference:

Theron and Penn split in June 2015. Meanwhile, the Internet broke in September 2016 when Pitt and Angelina Jolie confirmed they were divorcing after their decade-plus relationship. For now, at least, it appears Charlize Theron and Brad Pitt are both just single, hot friends.

My Parents Divorced at the Same Time as Brad and Jen—and Yes, There Was an Angelina

They were an impossibly good-looking couple, forever rocking micro-shades, twinning with their similarly bronzed skin and early-aughts cool. Their divorce—and the woman who was rumored to have caused it—rocked the community. I’m not referring to Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. I’m talking about my parents and their scandalous separation.

My mother and father first split when I was 10 years old, in 2003. They told me it was amicable, that it wasn’t my fault, that they’d always be my parents. But their split was messy. For the first two years, they still lived in the same house. They dabbled in couples therapy, slept in separate rooms, and took turns having nights out with their single friends (dad’s night out was always Thursday, mom got the Tuesday shift). It wasn’t until 2005 that my father moved out and I realized what we were dealing with was more than just a new sleeping arrangement—that their break up was the real deal.

Then, as luck would have it, a certain celebrity—one that could be classified as the most famous in the world at the time—announced her own divorce, right as my parents began proceedings on theirs, forever tethering two conscious uncouplings in my mind.

I’d always loved Jennifer Aniston and considered myself a for-real fan. I was also nine years old and alarmingly invested in her marriage to Brad Pitt. Exhibit A: The letter to I wrote to Jen in 2002, saying, “Please tell your husband that I thought he did a very good job in Ocean’s Eleven and that it was one of my favorite movies.” I loved that, in her wedding vows, she promised to always make Brad’s favorite banana milkshake, that he made a cameo on Friends as the president of the “I Hate Rachel Green Club,” that they always showed up to red carpets looking like the all-American golden couple they were.

So when they broke up, I was stunned. But when I found out why they broke up, I was really stunned. The Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie alleged love triangle was my first glimpse of infidelity. And as the tabloids chronicled every single facet of the relationship’s demise (with vile headlines that often alluded to rumors about Jen’s unwillingness or inability to have children). I started to piece together the rumblings I’d been hearing in my own household, the whispers from all of the adults in my life. It was the inescapable and addictive news coverage of Jen, Brad, and Angelina that made me realize the glaringly obvious fact that my parent’s marriage had ended in a similar fashion.

It didn’t take long for the media’s obsession with the end of the golden couple to turn into a full-on Jen vs. Angie feeding frenzy. Every tabloid pitted them against each other, and retailers like early 2000s celebrity-favorite, Kitson, sold “Team Aniston,” and “Team Jolie” shirts—most famously worn by Paris and Nicky Hilton on L.A.’s Robertson Boulevard.

It was this narrative—these two women as eternal mortal enemies—that both the press and I clung to. In my mind, my mother became Jennifer Aniston: the scorned girl next door. And my father’s new girlfriend, with her belly button piercing, skimpy clothing, and wild mane, became a stand-in for Angelina. So I swore loyalty to my mother and Team Aniston, opted out of seeing Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and cursed Angie’s name when the W spread of Brangelina playing house hit newsstands.

And it stayed that way for years. I saw The Breakup opening weekend, every time someone praised Angelina’s philanthropic work I retorted that she was a homewrecker. Obviously, I knew nothing of the situation other than what the rags were reporting, yet I stood by Jen despite a few questionable romantic choices (John Mayer? Really?). In my real life, I grew older and even closer to my mother as I continued to keep my distance from my Angie and held tight to the vision of my parents’ divorce I’d stolen from the headlines years prior.

Then something funny happened. In 2016, Brangelina parted ways. At first, I was thrilled. Remember that New York Post cover that came out with Jen laughing about their separation announcement? That was my reaction, except I was laughing even harder. But then it didn’t take long for the rumors to emerge that their split was prompted by Brad’s on-set affair with French actress Marion Cotillard while filming another sexy spy flick, Allied. Though it seemingly proved to be nothing other than gossip, it struck an emerging-feminist nerve: During all my years of anger, there were two people I was never mad at: Brad and my father.

As a young girl who loved (and still absolutely loves) her dad, the tale of Brangelina provided me with the perfect way to avoid assigning my father any blame. It made the women in my father’s life the center of the drama, absolving him of any misdoing. Much like how, in the media, we were all so obsessed with the Jen and Angie feud, that Brad got out of it nearly unscathed. In all the T-shirt making, where was the “Team Fuck Brad” top?

But with the demise of Brangelina, I no longer felt vindicated. I just felt sad. This was a real marriage that ended, and all the press could do was start circulating “will they or won’t they” articles about a Brad and Jen reconciliation. I no longer found comfort in the narrative the media had created, instead I was outraged, that these women’s pain was made into the story of the ages. And I was angry at myself, for deriving so much pleasure from it.

While the media hasn’t retired the lonely ex versus the hot replacement girlfriend storyline, as women in Hollywood come together to say Time’s Up, they’re also calling bullshit on this narrative. Take Olivia Munn and Anna Faris, who didn’t let themselves become Jen and Angie take two after Anna’s divorce from Chris Pratt. When rumors swirled Olivia and Chris were having an affair, she posted an Instagram text exchange with Anna and captioned it, “Not every woman is scorned and upset after a breakup,” Munn wrote. “Not every woman is ‘furious’ at another woman for dating her ex…So even if I was dating [Chris], some tabloids got me and [Anna] all wrong…women respect and love each other a lot more than some people like to think.” But it’s not the women’s responsibility to dispel the rumors, it’s society’s obligation to wake up and realize that pitting women against women is a bad look—plain and simple.

So I’m sorry, Angelina, and Jen, too, for perpetuating a story you never chose to be a part of, and were never given the opportunity to excuse yourselves from. I’m on both your teams.

Gwyneth Paltrow Just Shared the First Photos From Her Wedding to Brad Falchuk

When Gwyneth Paltrow‘s engagement to producer Brad Falchuk was announced, we knew their eventual wedding ceremony would be a sight to behold. After all, this is the woman for whom $445 sweaters and jade vagina eggs are the norm; for a special occasion like a wedding, you can image that she would go all out. The actress-slash-health-entrepreneur has finally shared photos from her September wedding ceremony—and from her couture wedding gown to the outdoor vows, it’s exactly what Goop fans would expect from her big day.

Paltrow and Falchuk married at an intimate ceremony held at her home in the Hamptons last September, Paltrow posted an image taken after she and Falchuk said “I do,” on her Instagram, linking to a larger gallery on the Goop website. (The images were also shared on Vogue.)

Brad Falchuk and Gwyneth Paltrow walk down the aisle at their September wedding.

Note the cascading flowers, hanging lanterns, and lots of of extra-large candles. Then, there’s her dress: a Valentino Couture wedding gown made with lace and a swiss-dot pattern. She finished off her bohemian bridal look with a simple veil pinned in her hair. Take a second look at her dress, and a peek at the ceremony venue, in her Instagram below.

Paltrow shared that didn’t have a formal ceremony for her first marriage to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, so she wanted her second time around to be extra-special. “[E]ven though I’m 45, I sort of feel like a 21-year-old,” she told Vogue about preparing for the event.

The on-brand details didn’t stop at the ceremony. For the reception, GP changed into a second dress by Stella McCartney (Just like another notable 2018 bride, Meghan Markle.) Per a representative from Goop, the reception included a small but recognizable guest list with Cameron Diaz, Robert Downey Jr., and Rob Lowe among those in attendance.

Paltrow and Falchuk met in 2014 when Paltrow was a guest-star on Glee, where Falchuk was a producer; they began dating in 2015. The pair announced their engagement in November 2017 with a joint statement: “We feel incredibly lucky to have come together at this juncture in our lives, when our collective successes and failures can serve as building blocks for a healthy and happy relationship.”

So, there you have it. GP had one Instagram-able wedding—but you’ll need to visit Goop to see the entire event.

Here's Everything We Know About Gwyneth Paltrow's Wedding to Brad Falchuk

Gwyneth Paltrow, actress and Goopster, married Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story and Glee co-creator, in a very luxe and undoubtedly very well-curated ceremony Saturday evening.

The two had confirmed their engagement in a big way: on the cover of January’s Sex & Love issue of Goop, where they wore matching outfits and expressions of joy.

“Personally, at midlife, I have tried to accept how complex romantic love can be. I have decided to give it a go again, not only because I believe I have found the man I was meant to be with, but because I have accepted the soul-stretching, pattern-breaking opportunities that (terrifyingly) are made possible by intimacy,” she wrote inside the issue, referring to both her then-fiancé and her relationship with ex-husband Chris Martin (of Coldplay and “conscious un-coupling” fame).

Paltrow had previously said that because she and Martin had eloped, she’d “never had a wedding before. So, even though I’m 45, I sort of feel like a 21-year-old.”

Well, there we go then! On to the wedding—here’s everything we know so far about the nuptials:

The Location

People reports that privacy was high on the wish list for the soon-to-be newlyweds, so the venue wasn’t exactly a highly visible one: According to the Daily Mail, the ceremony took place at Paltrow’s $5.4 million home in the Hamptons, which she’d bought with Martin in 2006. Apparently Paltrow had been renovating the property in advance of the wedding.

The Ceremony

According to E!, the wedding kicked off with cocktails while a string quartet performed, which sounds very classy.

The ceremony began around 5 p.m., reports E!, and the couple exchanged their vows under an archway surrounded by flowers, greenery, and lanterns.

The Dress

No word yet on the dress, sadly, but the groom reportedly wore a gray suit.

The Guest List

E! reports that the guest list was kept pretty intimate—even by normal-person standards—with just 75 lucky friends and family members making the cut for the big day. Those in attendance included the mother of the bride, Blythe Danner; Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey; Rob Lowe and his wife Sheryl Berkoff; and Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica Seinfeld, who have their own Hamptons house next door, according to the Daily Mail. (The Seinfelds also hosted a rehearsal dinner for the couple Friday night.)

Apparently Paltrow’s friend Cameron Diaz came over early to help the bride get dressed. “Cameron was very excited about Gwyneth’s wedding. Gwyneth has been giving her updates and asking for advice during the planning,” reports People.

The Reception

Huge white tents were set up on the property, according to the Daily Mail, and photographic evidence included in their report shows several boxes of champagne and water.

Inside the tents, paparazzi captured glimpses of white plates set out on long white tables, complemented by tall votives and “ivory and wine-colored” floral arrangements, reports E!. New York City-based caterer Olivier Cheng reportedly handled the food, and live music played during dinner.

The Photography

Also on the guest list—and on filming duty—was none other than Steven Spielberg, who was responsible for Paltrow’s big break in the film Hook. Apparently he was filming everything with a handheld camera, so you can bet their wedding video will be Oscar-worthy.

The Rings

Gold and tastefully minimalist. Très Goop.

Where Was Chris Martin?

He was jamming at the Global Citizen festival back in the city.

Congrats to the newlyweds!

Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk Confirm Their Engagement in New Issue of 'Goop' Magazine

2018 is off to a great start for Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Falchuk. Not only are they the cover stars of Goop magazine’s second edition, but inside the new “Sex & Love”-themed issue, they’re finally confirming their engagement.

The magazine, which goes on sale this week, attacks its romantic theme from all angles. The issue’s main story is a “deeply personal conversation” between Paltrow and relationship psychologist Esther Perel about finding love the second time around. Elsewhere in the mag, besides features on romantic getaways, couple’s therapy, and “luxurious, toxin-free yoni products,” Jean Godfrey-June writes about the “intense and often fleeting energy” of crushes, and Jancee Dunn shares an essay about “the sad reality of the orgasm gap.” And in an accompanying online video, Falchuk will take Goop’s signature “How Goopy Are You?” quiz.

The cover of the magazine shows a beamin Paltrow being embraced from behind by Falchuk. In another image from the cover shoot, captured by Steven Pan, Falchuk holds Paltrow close and kisses her on the cheek while she grins at the camera and positions her hand just so to show off her engagement ring, which looks to be a simple band set with a huge circular gemstone.

Inside the second issue of her namesake magazine, Paltrow opens up about her “conscious uncoupling” from Chris Martin and impending second marriage to Falchuk. “Personally, at midlife, I have tried to accept how complex romantic love can be. I have decided to give it a go again, not only because I believe I have found the man I was meant to be with, but because I have accepted the soul-stretching, pattern-breaking opportunities that (terrifyingly) are made possible by intimacy,” she writes about Falchuk. “For the first time, I feel like I’m in an adult relationship that is sometimes very uncomfortable—because he sort of demands a certain level of intimacy and communication that I haven’t been held to before. What came up in the first couple of years of our relationship was how incapable I was in this realm—how I feared intimacy and communication.”

Ahead of their official engagement announcement inside Vol. 2 of Goop—and several weeks after Entertainment Tonight reported that they’ve actually been engaged for over a year—Paltrow and Falchuk confirmed the big news to Good Morning America on Monday. “We feel incredibly lucky to have come together at this juncture in our lives when our collective successes and failures can serve as building blocks for a healthy and happy relationship,” they said in a joint statement.

Read all about Paltrow and Falchuk’s relationship in the “Love & Sex” issue of Goop, available on newsstands and online on Tuesday, January 9 for $14.99.
