Sweet Home Alabama : Reese Witherspoon plays a ritzy NYC fashion designer who tries to fool her fiancé into thinking she’s Southern royalty in this delightful flick. A classic never dies, y’all. And by classic, we mean a very charming rom-com from 2002. 8 P.M. EST on AMC

Tuesday, September 19

If Loving You Is Wrong: The fourth season of this Tyler Perry-helmed nighttime soap premieres tonight. We’re not quite sure how Perry will top the affairs and pregnancy bombshells from seasons past, but we’re excited to find out. 9 P.M. EST on OWN

The Paley Center Salutes the Best of Will & Grace: This hour-long special will highlight the greatest moments from Will & Grace in preparation for the show’s revival, which debuts September 28. Exclusive interviews with Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally, plus some fun behind-the-scenes footage, make this special a must-watch for W&G diehards. 10 P.M. EST on NBC

Wednesday, September 20

Are You the One?: The sixth season of MTV’s reality show about young hot people finding “love” is finally here. TBH, “love” is code for fighting, drinking, and making out—oh, and winning $1 million. 10 P.M. EST on MTV

The Good Place: Kristen Bell’s delightful comedy returns for its second season tonight. The two-part opener will pick up right where season one left off. Will Eleanor find Chidi, per Janet’s note to her? Stay tuned for that—plus many, many laughs. 10 P.M. EST on NBC

Thursday, September 21

American Beauty Star: Adriana Lima hosts this reality competition show that pits the best hair and makeup artists in the country against each other for one top prize. Beauty bloggers, lipstick aficionados, and people who just love seeing a good lewk should tune in. 10:30 P.M. EST on Lifetime

Gotham: Gotham is wasting no time jumping into its fourth season. (The third, if you forget, only ended in June.) We’re not complaining, though: Watching Benjamin McKenzie in the Batman universe is truly an experience. Do you think Ryan Atwood is obsessed? 8 P.M. EST on Fox

Friday, September 22

Battle of the Sexes: Emma Stone and Steve Steve Carell star in this historical drama about the legendary tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Riggs, if you forget, was certain King wouldn’t win their match because she was a woman. (We all know what happened after that.) In theaters

Gaga: Five Foot Two: Lady Gaga gives a rare glimpse into her inner-circle with this no-holds-barred documentary, where she addresses her feud with Madonna and the isolating nature of fame, among other topics. Put your paws up. Netflix

Saturday, September 23

Enough: If you’re looking for something to watch Saturday night, I highly suggest checking out Jennifer Lopez’s 2002 thriller Enough, which centers on a woman (Lopez) who can’t escape her abusive husband—until she kills him. It’s just the kind of over-the-top, heart-pounding romp that will make you glad you stayed in. 7 P.M. EST on HBO Signatures

The Devil Wears Prada: If that’s too intense for you, though, The Devil Wears Prada is also an option. The 2006 cult classic follows an aspiring journalist (Anne Hathaway) who snags a job assisting the icy editrix of a big-time fashion magazine (Meryl Streep). Stiletto-sharp humor ensues. 6:30 P.M. EST on VH1

Women Reveal One Thing They Want to See Happen on TV in 2018 at the Glamour x Tory Burch Women to Watch Lunch


Look at the 2017 Emmy nominations, and you’ll notice a common theme: It’s stacked with women-centric shows, especially ones with a message. With multiple nominations for the women behind and in front of the camera on shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, Feud, Veep, Grace and Frankie, This Is Us, and Orange Is the New Black, it’s clear we’re truly in a golden age of television.

That said, while we’ve certainly made progress, there’s still work to be done. A study released just this week revealed that 68 percent of the TV shows that aired between September 2016 to May 2017 had more men than women on their casts, and female characters accounted for just 42 percent of speaking roles. The good news: There are women in Hollywood, many of them nominated for Emmys this year, who are working hard to see those numbers change.

To celebrate them—and discuss how to make even more progress on television—Glamour partnered with Tory Burch to host a luncheon at the brand’s boutique on Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. Along with our editor-in-chief, Cindi Leive, co-hosts for the event included Alison Brie, America Ferrera, Natalia Dyer, Priyanka Chopra, Samira Wiley, and Shonda Rhimes.

Before guests were served food from Phuong Tran of Croft Alley, Leive gave a Veuve Clicquot toast to the Emmy nominees in the room—which included Felicity Huffman, Samira Wiley, Reed Morano, Lena Waithe, Wanda Sykes, Laverne Cox, and Shannon Purser. “Most of all, I want to thank all of you for making shows that feature so many great female characters,” Leive said, before adding, “And women who get to actually do things!”

During the meal, the group discussed what they most want to see happen on TV next year. Master of None‘s Lena Waithe hopes to see “a black, lesbian lead character on a TV show. Hopefully, I’ll be the one writing it.” But her goals for 2018 don’t stop there: She also wants a series about a transgender person in love to show “more trans normalcy on television.”

Similarly, Laverne Cox’s wish for 2018 is to see more transgender representation—specifically, “a show starring a transgender woman created by a transgender person with transgender people writing.”

Like Waithe, Inhumans star Serinda Swan sees 2018 as a time to increase the diversity of stories being told—without treating the characters as an “other.” “I want to see more interesting, diverse characters, but I don’t want it to be something new anymore,” she explained. “In 2018, I want it to be commonplace, not [considered to be] pushing the boundaries. I just want to see the exceptional become normal and have everyone see that as well.”

Stranger Things and Riverdale star Shannon Purser agrees. “I would like to see more plus-size women as romantic interests because I don’t think we see enough of that,” she said. “I’d also like to see more mental health representation. I think it’s a very important issue and one that when it is talked about people are always so grateful to have that type of visibility. I would love to see somebody tackle that in a way that’s real and respectful.”

All the women gathered at the luncheon voiced their desire to see increased visibility. Or as Queen Sugar star Dawn-Lyen Gardner put it, “I think if I boiled it down to one thing, it would be that women-centric shows don’t just draw one demographic.”

“I always just want to see things that inspire unity on television,” The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Cohan explained. “The more I can see us finding connection and oneness, the more inspired I am to create more of the same.”

Speaking of inspiration, Stranger Things‘ Natalia Dyer had an inspired idea for her show’s third season. “We need more musicals on TV. A Stranger Things musical episode—let’s make it happen! I can carry a tune and learn the moves. I’ll put in the work.”

Sadly, once these conversations—and the amazing dessert—had wrapped, guests had to be on to their way (in style with Cadillac CT6 sedans)—but not before picking up a gift bag, which included a Tory Burch watch, a copy of the Glamour October issue, and Beautycounter lip gloss, mascara, and face oil. After that, it was on to the next Emmy event—and world domination, probably.

Newton’s Law: The popular Australian eight-part series is finally available for American audiences. Claudia Karvan stars as Josephine Newton, a real estate agent who tries to return to her former lawyer job. Filled with quirky characters and a relatable premise, this show is perfect Monday-night entertainment. Acorn TV

The Forgotten: But if you’re in the mood for an oldie-but-goodie, watch The Forgotten, a slept-on psychological thriller starring Julianne Moore and Dominic West. It hits Netflix today. Moore plays a mother whose son mysteriously vanishes; everyone tells her that he never existed, but she’s convinced otherwise. Spooky antics ensue. Netflix

The Mindy Project: The sixth and final season of The Mindy Project kicks off today, and our heroine has a lot of decisions to make. The season trailer confirms that Mindy did marry Ben, but there’s already trouble in paradise. And the fact that all her exes are now back in the picture won’t help the situation, either. Oof. Hulu

Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief: Beyonce, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Reese Witherspoon, and Oprah Winfrey will appear in this one-hour telethon, which will raise money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. 8 P.M. EST on ABC, FOX, CBS, and NBC

Heroin(e) This heartbreaking new documentary explores the lives of three women dedicated to combatting the opioid crisis in Huntington, West Virginia. Netflix

Wednesday, September 13

Barbershop: The classic comedy, starring Ice T and Eve, turns 15 today. If it’s one of your favorites, throw a viewing party and add on the film’s two sequels. If it’s your first time watching, take it all in without distraction. You don’t want to miss any of the jokes. Available to rent on Amazon

Broad City: Broad City is baaaack, and the first question on fans’ minds is what the hell happened to Abbi and Ilana on that flight to Israel. First They Killed My Father: Angelina Jolie directs this poignant film, which is based on Loung Ung’s nonfiction book and centers on a 5-year-old girl who must fight for survival during Khmer Rouge’s terrifying reign in Cambodia. Netflix

Ten: Murder Island: If campy horror schlock is your poison, Lifetime has the supply tonight. First on the docket is Ten: Murder Island , which follows 10 teenagers who head to a party retreat on some random island with no parents. You can guess what happens after that. Drink, Slay, Love: This is the greatest movie title in the history of movie titles, and its premise sounds incredibly fun, too. A 16-year-old vampire named Pearl loses her aversion to sunlight, so her family enrolls her in a local high school. Her task is simple: pick up dinner. Eat up. 10 P.M. EST on Lifetime

Obsessed: In honor of Beyoncé’s birthday, it’s imperative you revisit her incredible 2009 film Obsessed, a Fatal Attraction tale about a secretary (Ali Larter) who becomes enamored with her boss (Idris Elba). Thirteen: Celebrate Evan Rachel Wood’s birthday by watching Thirteen, the searing 2003 drama about the horrors of being a teenager. Wood plays Tracy, a 13-year-old girl whose life spirals out of control when she befriends the school’s resident cool girl (Nikki Reed). It’s like Mean Girls, except way more terrifying and without the humor. Available to rent on Amazon.

The Holiday: Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet swap houses—and lives—in this charming 2005 comedy. Who cares if it isn’t December? This film will warm you up regardless. 8:30 P.M. EST on E!

There are hundreds of new movies and TV shows out right now, so deciding what to watch on any given night can be stressful. And isn’t that the exact opposite of what entertainment is supposed to do? Think about it: How many times have you wanted to watch something on Netflix but got overwhelmed by the options and just gave up? Hundreds. Thousands. Everyone’s been there.

That’s where we come in. Welcome to our new franchise “Watch This,” where we tell you the best movies and TV shows debuting on any given week. The entertainment landscape is crowded AF, so hopefully this filtered list will help you navigate it. After all, we only have a few hours in between coming home from work and going to bed. With both the MTV Video Music Awards and Games of Thrones’ season finale airing this week, we figured now is the perfect time to kick things off. (Be warned: Sunday is a heavy-duty TV night.) And will she and Perry share a moment? 8 P.M. EST on MTV

Game of Thrones: Um, one of the dragons is a full-on zombie now, so you know some shit’s about to go down in the season finale. Plus, Jon and Daenerys are definitely gonna bang. These are things you must watch unfold in real time. 9 P.M. EST on HBO

Revenge: All four seasons of this soapy, beachside drama are leaving Netflix today, so get your fix while you can. Watching Emily Thorne scam every rich person in the Hamptons never gets old.

Bachelor in Paradise: Corinne Olympios gives her first on-camera interview about the “misconduct” incident from June during tonight’s episode. The show’s handling of this controversy has been poor, to say the least, so it’ll be interesting to hear Olympios’ side. 8 P.M. EST on ABC

Tuesday, August 29:

Black Love: This docuseries explores the secrets behind some of Hollywood’s most successful Black couples, including Julius Tennon and Viola Davis. Black Love tries to solve this quintessential question: What makes a marriage work? The answer, you’ll find, doesn’t actually exist—because no two couples are the same. And that’s a beautiful thing. 10 P.M. EST on OWN

The Good Place: Season one of NBC’s hit comedy hits Netflix today. Kristen Bell plays a deliciously heinous woman who dies and is accidentally sent to “The Good Place” instead of “The Bad Place” (think heaven vs. hell). Hilarity ensues.

Wednesday, August 30:

The Real Housewives of New York City: The reunion rages on. Is it as exciting as the reunions from previous seasons? No. It doesn’t even come close—but tune in just to see how many times Sonja says “bad houseguest.” 10 P.M. on Bravo

The Sinner: Are you watching this show? If not, catch up on the first three episodes, and then tune into chapter four tonight. The Sinner is, hands down, one of the best TV shows on right now. All you need to know is that Jessica Biel’s character murdered someone in public—on a crowded beach—and no one knows why. Like, she stabbed a man in broad friggin’ daylight! Sold. 10 P.M. on USA

Thursday, August 31:

The League: I hate sports, but I’m all in for this improv comedy show about a Fantasy Football League. Mark Duplass and Nick Kroll star in the series, which is leaving Netflix today. Call in sick from work and watch it from start to finish. Your boss won’t even know you’re gone.

Guilty Rich: A true-crime series about rich, despicable people who commit crimes and get away with them? Sign us up. 10 P.M. on ID

Friday, September 1:

Narcos: The third season of Netflix’s acclaimed show about drugs, drugs, and more drugs (OK, just cocaine) premieres today.

I Do…Until I Don’t: Lake Bell wrote and directed this comedy about a filmmaker who interviews three couples to prove, once and for all, that marriage is dead. Does this mean wedding season is over? I need the free cake. In theaters today

Saturday, September 2:

Everly: Celebrate Salma Hayek’s birthday by watching one of her most badass films on Netflix. This one centers on a woman (Hayek) who fights off assassins sent by her ex, a mob boss, to kill her.

Fifty Shades of Grey: This masterpiece is playing on television tonight. You’re welcome. 8 P.M. EST on E!

Coming to Netflix in September 2017: 100 Movies and TV Shows You Can Start Streaming This Month


If you’re a ’90s baby (and, honestly, even if you are not), the chances are high you saw Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast in theaters multiple times. And we don’t blame you: The film, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, is exquisite in every way possible. Still, those frequent trips to the cinema probably broke your bank—movie tickets are ridiculously expensive these days!

But don’t worry: There’s now a way for you to watch Beauty and the Beast on repeat for days and still have the comfort of you couch and delivery pizza whenever you want because the film is officially hitting Netflix this month—September 19, to be exact. So go ahead and plan your viewing parties accordingly.

That’s not the only Disney treasure available for streaming next month. Both Mulan and Hercules will arrive on Netflix September 1, and Pocahontas is coming September 14. (Just as a reminder: Every Disney movie is leaving Netflix in 2019, so enjoy them now while you can.)

If you’re not a Disney person, though, no worries: A slew of other, more grown-up titles are headed to your queues in September as well. The Forgotten! Carol! All the Jaws movies! Who needs sunlight anyway?
