I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have a bit of a wait before the eighth—and final—season of Game of Thrones premieres. Earlier this month, Sophie Tuner (a.k.a. Sansa Stark) confirmed it won’t hit the air until 2019, which is disappointing—and vague! Exactly when in 2019 is this happening? Are we talking January 1 at exactly 12:01 A.M., or is it some miserable time, like December 4? No shade toward people with December 4 birthdays, by the way, but can you imagine waiting that long for Game of Thrones? That’s basically 2020!

Don’t worry, though: You won’t be waiting that long. In a new interview with Metro, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) says Game of Thrones season eight will debut in the spring of 2019—specifically, April.

“We wrap [shooting] in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes,” the actress said. “There’s a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities. “

Well, looks like this mystery is solved—but there are so many other things about season eight that are unclear. We know it’s six episodes, but that’s about it. Oh, and it’s heart-wrenching—if Turner’s comments on the final read-through are any indication.

“When we all had the read-through for the final season, it was very, very emotional,” she told Variety. “For the first time in Thrones history, we had everyone there. All of the Americans wanted to come over. Every single cast member was pretty much there. We’re all kind of feeling the end of it coming. We’re all staying in town a little longer, going out for more meals, trying to get together more. We’re all trying not to take it for granted anymore.”

We won’t take watching it for granted, either.

While Game of Thrones‘s Daenerys Targaryen has undoubtedly inspired innumerable women all over the world to embrace their inner queens, she’s undoubtedly had her most profound impact on one in particular: Emilia Clarke, the Khaleesi’s IRL alter ego. In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Clarke explained how playing Dany onscreen for the past seven years has taught her more about female empowerment and to embrace her feminism.

“It’s given me a real insight into what it feels like to be a woman who stands up to inequality and hate,” she said. “And as [Daenerys] has become more empowered as a woman, you can’t hide any more. You are adding to the voices that are going to make people realize an equal society is what we’re aiming for.” Clarke shared that, because she grew up with her mother as the primary breadwinner in her household, seeing women in positions of power has always been the norm for her. “That’s the lens through which I’ve been fortunate enough to view the world,” she said. “It’s only when you go to school that you’re like, ‘Oh, that’s different, that’s weird.'”

As intertwined as Dany and Clarke have become over the past several years (blonde hair included), however, the British actress revealed that she has no idea how Dany’s story ends in the show’s final season, set to premiere sometime in 2019. “They’ve written a number of different endings, so none of the cast know what the actual ending is. If there’s ever a leak of any kind, don’t believe it, because it’s probably not true,” she said. “We have a very strict social media ban this year because people need to stop spoiling it for everyone. It’s really frustrating.”

Clarke’s GoT costars have also spoken about the upcoming ending of the hit fantasy series. In October, her onscreen love interest-slash-nephew Kit Harington revealed that a table read of the final episode had brought him to tears. “We had a read through last week in fact, so I know everything now,” he told BBC’s The One Show at the time. “I cried at the end. You have to remember that eight years of it—no one really cares about it more than us.”

If you haven’t even started watching HBO’s Game of Thrones yet, don’t fret, because you can spend all of 2018 catching up on the hit fantasy series before the eighth and final season airs in 2019. At least, that’s the expected air date according to Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the extraordinarily popular show. The actress recently spoke to Variety, spilling some major secrets about filming the show’s final season.

When asked how far into production she and the cast currently are, the newly engaged (to Joe Jonas!) Turner said, “We started in October, so we’re maybe like a tenth of the way through…No, no, we’ve got six or seven months left.” At that rate, a 2018 premiere is all but impossible, so, looks like early 2019 at best.

She continued, “Game of Thrones comes out in 2019. Dark Phoenix is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I’m a producer on my next movie. So I’m really excited about the future.”

The GoT showrunners also previously hinted at a 2019 release date for the six-episode season. “It’s exciting, but there’s always pressure. You don’t ever want to drop the ball,” D.B. Weiss told Entertainment Weekly in June of this year, adding that, at the time, they weren’t done writing the final season.

But it seems Weiss and co-showrunner David Benioff have made significant progress since then, since Turner was able to give Variety more details on how her character will grow and change in the final season, after—spoiler alert—offing her pseudo-mentor Littlefinger at the end of season 7.

“It’s going to be tricky for her because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up,” Turner said. “She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.”

Turner also spoke lovingly of how the cast is spending more time together as the series wraps up. (Grab the tissues.) “When we all had the read-through for the final season, it was very, very emotional. For the first time in Thrones history, we had everyone there. All of the Americans wanted to come over. Every single cast member was pretty much there. We’re all kind of feeling the end of it coming. We’re all staying in town a little longer, going out for more meals, trying to get together more. We’re all trying not to take it for granted any more,” she said. She also praised her fellow actors, adding, “I learned to act watching Lena [Headey] and Peter [Dinklage] and Maisie [Williams] and Kit [Harington] and all of these different people. I put them all on such pedestals. The thought of not working with them is almost excruciating to me. They’ve been my growing up.”

Game of Thrones is one of the most beloved shows on television, but there’s one element to it that’s quite polarizing: the sex scenes.

GoT is infamous for its gratuitous—and sometimes problematic—sex. It’s part of why so many people love the show…and why others hate it. Granted, much of the criticism concerning the nudity on GoT is valid (it has depicted sexual violence against women on several occasions) but not all of it. There’s a certain subset of fans who’re just annoyed by the amount of sex—consensual, good, healthy sex—that Game of Thrones shows. And that’s the chatter Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, has an issue with.

“I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, ‘Oh, yeah, all the porn sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on.’ I’m like, The Handmaid’s Tale? I fucking love that show, and I cried when it ended because I couldn’t handle not seeing it. That is all sex and nudity. There are so many shows centered around this very true fact that people reproduce,” Clarke told Harper’s Bazaar for its December/January issue. “People fuck for pleasure—it’s part of life.”

Clarke expressed similar sentiments back in March when she wrote an essay for The Huffington Post. “If you’ve watched Game of Thrones then, spoiler, you will have seen me in the nude,” she wrote. “There are plenty of ways in which people want me to respond to questions about this fact. And plenty of reasons why I do not feel the need to justify myself.”

Retweet. Whether you like the sex scenes on Game of Thrones or not, it shouldn’t have to be Clarke’s job to defend them. (It’s funny how the male actors on the show are rarely ask about their nudity.) At the end of the day, she’s an actress doing her job—and if she’s comfortable, that’s all that matters.

For those of us who have followed Game of Thrones, the best character is obviously Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. Before Jon Snow, however, there was Khal Drogo, her husband in the first season. Of course, their relationship was problematic AF at the start, and she did wind up tearfully killing him, but it would take a whole lot more space and time than we have here to unpack all of that. But what we’re really excited about is that the two reunited in London for what seems to be like a few gins, and they took a picture together, and ~~my god, his arms~~ it’s basically perfection.

Of course we’re referring here not to actual Khaleesi and Khal Drogo, but to human counterparts Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa (who, two days ago, married Cosby Show actress Lisa Bonet!).

Clarke captioned the post with a reference to Khaleesi’s Dothraki nickname for Drogo, and my cold, icy heart is melting.

This 100-percent wins the best celebrity caption contest, which we cannot confirm exists but would create just so she could win. It’s quickly added to by what is the best celebrity comment—which comes, of course, from Momoa.

These two are rays of sunshine in a dark bar, and we are so here for the reunion. With the last season of Game of Thrones currently underway and filming across in Northern Ireland, we are very much hoping for a few more pics like this before production wraps. And after. Definitely after, too.

For Game of Thrones fans, anticipation over the impending eighth and final season is enough to turn stomachs into knots. For eight years—almost a decade!—we’ve been following the clashing kingdoms of Westeros, worshipping Khaleesi‘s relentless queenly fierceness (and icy winter fashion, and platinum waves), and falling a tiny bit in love with IKEA-rug-wearing Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington. Apparently, Harington’s loved being on the show as much as we’ve loved watching ~~him~~ it, and he’s quite torn up about how it all ends.

“I’m really emotional about it. We had the read-through last week, so I know everything,” he told “The One Show” this week. “I cried at the end—not over anything particular that happened—but it’s been eight years, and no one cares about it more than we do.”

“It’s been an institution longer than any other institution I’ve been in,” he-of-the-perfectly-wavy-hair-even-in-blizzards continued. “School, drama school, anything. I get a bit weepy thinking about it. It’s going to be a strange year saying goodbye to everyone and having last scenes with this person and that person. Not only you’re attached to it, loads of people around the world are attached to it.”

(Well, not everyone: he won’t be saying goodbye to fiancée Rose Leslie, who played his former love Ygritte on the show. Ah, Game of Thrones, you work in wonderful ways.)

According to a Guardian profile about Harington published on Saturday, Jon Snow was a role he auditioned for shortly after drama school—so there’s no doubt that this is a hard one to walk away from (though the show didn’t actually kick off for another four years after he tried out).

Sigh. All good things must come to an end, but are we sure there’s no hope for an encore season??
