This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Suggests Varys Took His Rings Off for an Important Reason

The countdown to the final episode ever of Game of Thrones is on, and we’re not quite sure what everyone’s going to do with themselves once the juggernaut HBO show ends. In the meantime, I guess we’ll all just continues to analyze (and criticize) every frame of footage to try and figure out what is going to happen on Sunday night.

One prevailing guess among fans is that Daenerys Targaryen is going to die. In the previous episode, Dany basically breaks bad—possibly becoming the Mad Queen—and torches huge swaths of King’s Landing with her lone remaining dragon, Drogon. Based on the reactions of Jon Snow and Arya Stark, it would seem they’re not comfortable with her new leadership strategy. And some fans think will lead to Arya taking down the Mother of Dragons, just as she did the Night King.

If she is indeed the one to kill Dany, perhaps Arya will use her training by the Faceless Men to get close to her. But a new fan theory (first laid out on Buzzfeed) suggests the actual method: poison. We know that Varys sent letters—presumably telling others in the realm about Dany’s “madness” and Jon’s rightful claim to the Iron Throne—before he was executed. And, as Buzzfeed points out, he also very deliberately removes his rings while writing.

What could that mean? The theory suggests that there may be poison in one of them that is meant to kill the Mother of Dragons—and it’s based on the show’s history with deadly accessories. Back in season four when Olenna killed Joffrey, she did so with poison that was originally hidden in a jewel in Sansa’s necklace.

We already know that the Master of Whispers was trying to assassinate Dany with poison, so the thinking is that he deliberately removed the rings because he knew he was about to die and wanted to leave them for someone else like Arya, Jon, or Sansa to use.

We’ll find out on Sunday when the saga comes to an end.

This *Game of Thrones* Theory Suggests How Tyrion Lannister Might Die

Ever since his first appearance in Game of Thrones season one, Tyrion Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage) has been a fan favorite. The drunken womanizer-turned-trusted political advisor often provides brief bits of humor and levity to a show that’s mostly “dark and full of terrors,” but he’s also a driving force in the plot. Tyrion is positioned to play a major role as we move forward from the battle with the Night King and his Army of the Dead to King’s Landing and a showdown with Tyrion’s sister, Cersei Lannister.

Now. a new theory, (via The Independent), suggests how Tyrion might die (NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!).

Here’s what the theory posits: Think back to season four when Tyrion kills his own father, Tywin Lannister, with a crossbow—while Tywin is on the toilet, no less. It’s a pivotal moment for the character and may come back into play in the final three seasons. Stay with us here: The Independent points out that many characters on GoT die by same method they employed to end the lives of others. Olenna Tyrell poisoned Joffrey and was subsequently poisoned by Jaime Lannister. Ned Stark beheaded a member of the Night’s Watch and then publicly lost his own head. Ramsey Bolton used his hounds to kill his mother and sister, then Sansa turned them back on him in the end. The list goes on.

So it’s notable that in a previous episode, we see Qyburn give Bronn the same crossbow Tyrion used on his father. We know that Cersei wants Bronn to eliminate her brothers, Jaime and Tyrion, now that they have turned against her. Could this be a signal that Bronn will kill Tyrion with that crossbow?

As much as we don’t want it to be true, it does make a lot of sense. Then again, maybe Sansa will use that dagger she now has in her possession to protect him. A girl can hope, right?

This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Suggests Sansa Stark Will Be the One to Kill Cersei Lannister


Warning: Some spoilers for this season of Game of Thrones ahead.

Sansa Stark has been rising in the Game of Thrones power rankings for weeks—seasons, really. Once a privileged young girl of Winterfell who didn’t care to focus on much outside of herself, Sansa has become a true force in the Seven Kingdoms. She’s my personal choice to sit on the Iron Throne when this saga wraps up in three weeks.

And now, a new theory (from Hollywood Life) suggests that Sansa will actually be the one to kill Cersei Lannister as focus returns to King’s Landing after the defeat of the Night King.

The most popular guesses as to who might take down the queen are her brothers, Jaime and Tyrion, or Arya. This is thanks to the prophecy from Maggy the Frog, which Cersei heard as a child. In the books it says, “And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.” Valonqar means “little brother,” which at first glance would mean Tyrion. But it could apply to Jamie, too, considering he’s the younger twin. Notably, thought, that specific part was left out in the show. And then, of course, Cersei sits high on Arya’s kill list.

But it would be super cool if it was Sansa, especially since Arya just had a big moment in killing the Night King.

Don’t forget that Maggy’s prophesy also includes this bit: “Queen you shall be…until there comes another, younger and more beautiful, to cast you down and take all that you hold dear.” Sounds like Sansa, no?

So, how might this all go down? The dagger that Arya gave to her older sister during the Battle of Winterfell plays a big part. “Stick ’em with the pointy end,” Arya says, in a callback to the same advice Jon Snow gave to her in season one. While Sansa has never trained to be a physical fighter like Arya, she has learned a lot about politics and manipulation by Littlefinger and Cersei herself. The theory points out that, in season seven, Sansa admitted to “learning a lot” from Cersei.

“What if it’s actually the person she least suspects? It would be satisfying as hell to watch Sansa kill Cersei with Arya’s dagger,” Avery Thompson writes for Hollywood Life. “Sansa learned so much from the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Cersei helped shape Sansa into the woman she is today. But just like Arya, Sansa harbors a hatred for Cersei. Cersei had a hand in having Sansa’s father, Ned, killed, which Sansa had to watch from just inches away. She helped keep Sansa in King’s Landing and away from her family for years.”

The motive is definitely there—and thanks to the dagger from Arya, Sansa now has the means. But will she take her shot when the opportunity arises? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Suggests Something Major About the Next Episode

Of course, I love watching Game of Thrones every week to see what is actually happening in Westeros, but reading the endless theories from super fans in between episodes is almost as much fun.

Last night, on the second episode of the final season, we watched everyone at Winterfell preparing for the looming battle with the Night King and the Army of the Dead. Jaime knighted Brienne, Arya had sex with Gendry, and Jon broke some fairly devastating news to Dany about his true parentage. But it was the preview for next week that got one Redditor theorizing about events to come.

The Thrones crew never gives away much in the trailers, but there is one line in particular that led to this new theory. Daenerys says to Jon, “The dead are already here.” The most simple reading of the line is that it’s in reference to the Night King’s army of white walkers and wights, who are actually dead. But there’s another way to look at it.

“That line happens between Dany and Jon, and felt super significant — but we already see the army of the dead, felt it was too obvious to be their reaction to them. Then it clicked: The crypt is full of dead people,” IgnorantSportsFan wrote on Reddit. “All episode they keep repeating and emphasizing how safe it was in the crypt, but it’s GOT and we cannot have nice things. So is it possible we have old Starks rising from the crypts? Or is that too far fetched? PLUS we saw in multiple previews Arya fighting in the crypts with her new weapon…”

Well, that is interesting indeed. There were a lot of references to the crypts in episode two—it’s meant to be the place where those not fighting the battle will be hidden and safe. But what if it’s not such a safe space after all? Could this be the moment that Catelyn Stark reemerges as Lady Stoneheart? Guess we’ll find out next week.

This *Game of Thrones* Fan Theory Suggests Cersei Is Not Actually Pregnant


Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season eight.

Game of Thrones is back, and with it comes a new slew of new fan theories. A major one that emerged after last night’s season premiere is that Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) isn’t actually pregnant—or if she once was, she isn’t anymore.

Remember, in season seven Cersei told her brother, Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), that she’s pregnant with their fourth child. But even at the time many questioned if she was telling the truth, or just using a possible baby as a way to keep Jaime firmly under her thumb. The Lannisters’ other brother, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), also deduced that Cersei was pregnant after she refrained from her beloved wine at the end of season seven.

But a moment in the season eight premiere has fans thinking the queen is either no longer pregnant or never was to begin with. Cersei sleeps with Euron Greyjoy after he agrees to pledge his loyalty and military troops to her. After the encounter, he says, “I’m going to put a prince in your belly.” She has a mysteriously wistful expression on her face as he leaves the room—and a glass of red wine in her hand, which she drinks.

Fans quickly took notice.

Of course, Cersei could just be drinking through her pregnancy (and the moment with Tyrion last season was an anomaly). Another possibility is that she lost the baby at some point and is trying to get pregnant again as quickly as possible. Or maybe she was never pregnant and is trying to produce another heir with Euron. With Cersei, anything can happen.

Only time till tell, but whatever happens, it certainly seems that Cersei has the upper-hand on all the men in her orbit.

This 'Game of Thrones' Theory Suggests Who the Night King Is Really After


We’re a month out from the beginning of the end—of Game of Thrones, that is. As we all wait (not so patiently) to see how who finally ends up on the Iron Throne, the fan theories are kicking into high gear.

Everyone is speculating about whether or not Sansa and Daenerys will hate each other and if Cersei is really pregnant—but what of the series’ ultimate Big Bad, the Night King? From the trailer, it’s safe to say we’re going to see at least one epic battle with the icy ruler and his White Walkers, but who is he really after? Many assume it’s Jon Snow, and they might be correct. But a new theory on Reddit suggests that Bran Stark, a.k.a. the Three-Eyed Raven, is the Night King’s true target.

Let’s break it down.

The theory stems from an interview that Vladimir Furdik, the actor who plays the Night King, gave to Entertainment Weekly. “People will see he has a target he wants to kill, and you will find out who that is,” he said. “There’s also that moment [in “Hardhome”] when Jon Snow was on the boat and the Night King looked at him and raised his arms — there’s a similar and even stronger moment between Jon and the Night King this time.”

Based on that, the Redditor posits that the target is actually Bran, not Jon. Here’s why: “The NK has had many opportunities to kill Jon. If he was after him that bad, he would have killed him by now! Also, the actor brought up Jon and NK’s stare down in the same sentence as ‘he is after someone’ so HBO wouldn’t let him say those things together because it’s too spoilery. So it can’t be Jon.”

“There’s some show dialogue that tells us that Bran is very important as well. Like Jojen Reed! He tells Bran, ‘only one thing that matters, you!’ So he’s saying that Bran is the only thing that matters. There’s also Benjen. He tells Bran ‘one way or another, he will find his way to the world of men. And when he does, you will be there waiting for him.’ Also, Remember when the NK touched Bran and then the three eyed raven tells Bran, ‘he touched you! He knows your here! He’ll come for you!’ The NK is coming for Bran? I mean that’s telling us everything we need to know right there. So he’s after Bran!”

But, why? Basically, because Bran is the Three-Eyed Raven. But also because it has been noted that the Three-Eyed Raven and the Night King are “ancient enemies.” And this centuries-old beef possibly began with the very first Three-Eyed Raven who may have been the person to build The Wall, keeping the White Walkers at bay for a long time. “So the last hero and the children ban together and create something that can defeat the NK. They gave this man the power he needs to put a stop to the NK,” the Redditor says. “That’s why the NK has tried to stop any three eyed ravens from being trained. That’s why the NK killed Bloodraven and tried to kill Bran. That’s why he is coming after Bran. That’s why the NK and three eyed raven are ancient enemies!”

So the Night King is possibly after Bran because he is the Three-Eyed Raven, and the Night King is always against whoever the new Three-Eyed Raven is because of this ancient feud—but also because the Three-Eyed Raven has the knowledge to stop him.

Phew, that was a lot—but it all does make sense. Of course, this is a show that kills off main characters when you least expect it and is constantly zigging when you think it will zag, so this theory might well be proven false during this final season. Either way, though, can someone just take down that nasty Night King already?
