Chris Harrison Says There's 'More to Demi's Story' on Bachelor in Paradise

Night one of Bachelor in Paradise is in the books, and it did not disappoint. But if Kristina’s words—”I am going to make Blake my bitch”—are any indication, this whole season will be a wild ride.

That’s just fine with host Chris Harrison, who thrives on the unexpected, whether it’s on the sandy beaches of Mexico or in the confines of the Bachelor mansion. Case in point: Look how well he navigated all the Bachelorette fans who were freaking out about the supposed Hannah Brown/Tyler Cameron/Gigi Hadid love triangle. (According to him, “People need to pump the breaks.”)

He’s got bigger things to worry about now that Paradise has started, and we’re not just talking about Dean’s ’70s-era mustache. Here, Harrison breaks down what happened on tonight’s premiere, what’s still to come, and when we’ll see the show’s first same-sex relationship.

Hannah Brown made an appearance in the premiere to catch up with Demi. Will we see her more throughout Paradise?

Chris Harrison: No, it’s really a specific moment and a visit when Hannah comes in. She won’t have a major role or be coming in and out throughout the season. It’s like when Becca came in for a specific reason to talk to Colton last season and then left. Hannah doesn’t have a specific role in Paradise.

Speaking of Demi, she revealed her sexuality is fluid and we know she has the first queer relationship on the show. When will that start to develop?

Chris: Yeah, it’s really interesting because obviously we teased it, so we’re talking about it. But I don’t want to spoil it for everybody. It’s also such…we did a great job of allowing Demi to tell this story, to tell her story, and it’s beautiful and amazing. I’m really proud of it. It happens sooner than later, I’ll tell you that. You don’t have to wait a long time. There’s something that happens, and there’s more to Demi’s story than just this that sets everything up. So, patience, we’ll get there. But there’s more to that story than just that relationship.

As much as the Bachelor franchise has evolved over the years, the last few seasons have really tapped into the cultural zeitgeist. What does it mean to you to see the franchise catch up to where the rest of the world is?

Chris: You kind of hit the nail on the head. And that is, this show has always been about…this is why it’s so popular and why it’s so relatable, is that you’re watching what you’re going through. That’s what makes it compelling. The show has evolved phenomenally well. And it’s not just been lately…we’re always a microcosm of what’s happening in the world. I think what’s happening in the world is really evolving quickly…conversations, lifestyle, whatever it is socially, has been mirrored on our show. I don’t think we’re the tail wagging the dog, I think it’s the other way around. I think what happens in the world ends up on our show. I love that. I like that we’re able to evolve.

Absolutely. At the end of tonight’s show, Kristina says she’s going to make Blake her bitch now. Where this is headed?

Chris: Well, clearly things don’t get better for Blake. To put in a Paradise reference, it’s not smooth sailing for him for quite some time. But then again, he created all these waves. Now he’s going to have to deal with it. Things continue to get rough and evolve and things continue to blow up for Blake. You’re going to see other relationships take shape as well rather quickly this season.

Ryan Murphy Just Revealed the Themes of Season 8 and Season 9 of 'American Horror Story'

The new year might have just started, but American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is thinking way past 2018. Murphy revealed during the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour in Pasadena on Friday that season eight of AHS will take place in the—wait for it—future.

“All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done,” Murphy said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

This probably means it’ll be years, maybe decades, after season 7’s present-day setting in Trump’s America—but it could be a look at the aftermath. And even though he’s keeping quiet about other details, we do know what the season is not about: outer space, as Murphy confirmed.

The writers won’t start working on the script until February, but the storyline has been approved by FX. “I pitched it to [FX chief] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Murphy said. “I told him, and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it; it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

Given that the show had literally just been pitched, Murphy says he hasn’t started casting yet, but he hopes that Evan Peters—who is also working on Murphy’s new FX drama Pose—will come back for another season. “It’s conceivable that they could overlap. I mean, Sarah Paulson has done two shows for me that were shooting at the same time,” he explained. “Usually, with the actors, I think of a role and then go to them and they either want to do it or not, so I haven’t even talked to Evan about what the role might be, but I would hope so. I think so.”

Surprisingly, even though season eight is in the early stages of coming together, season nine of AHS has actually already been in the works. The season will be the much-anticipated crossover between Murder House and Coven from seasons 1 and 3. “We’re working on it, but it’s not going to be the next season,” Murphy said. “Next season is season eight, and it’ll probably be the one after that. “We’ve already met about it and outlined it, but it won’t be next, because some of the people are not available.”

Murphy wants all of the original cast members back together for the crossover including Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Jessica Lang, and Kathy Bates. “Everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun, let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”

'Wonder Woman 2' Will Have Another 'Great Love Story,' Says Director Patty Jenkins

A major part of the Wonder Woman plot revolved around Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince simultaneously fighting alongside and falling in love with Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, the first man she’d ever met. Obviously, there were other important things going on in the movie—see: Diana marching across No Man’s Land to rescue an entire town of hostages; Diana plotting to stop German scientists from dropping bombs on innocent people; Diana defeating Ares, the god of war—but it’s nearly impossible not to shed a tear when Steve flies a plane full of bombs away from everybody else and (probably) dies in the process, leaving Diana screaming his name on the ground below.

It’s hard to imagine moving on from that traumatic loss, but in a new edition of Variety‘s Playback podcast released in mid-November, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was asked about the blockbuster film’s sequel and hinted that the Wonder Woman sequel will include another “great love story.”

“Because she is Wonder Woman and she’s here now and she’s fully developed, it’s got great fun from the start, and great big superhero presence from the start, and is funny and a great love story again, and [has] a couple new unbelievable characters who I’m so excited about, who are very different than were in the last movie,” Patty said. Steve Trevor fans were sent spiraling, with several outlets publishing articles assuming that Patty’s comments meant that Diana will have a brand new love interest in the new film.

But before you, too, start protesting Steve’s replacement, you should know that Patty has already refuted these assumptions. “Quite a few people, including this headline, seem to be completely misunderstanding or making some pretty false assumptions based on one of many vague quotes I made about something I can’t say ANYTHING about. Just wait. ;)” she wrote in response to one of these articles.

In that case, the “great love story” Patty referenced in the podcast could just refer to Diana’s compassion for all mankind, her relationship with a new (platonic) friend, or her lasting love for Steve—in the new Justice League movie, even though she’s somewhat flirty with Ben Affleck’s Batman (who definitely does not deserve her), Diana is still clearly carrying a torch for the charismatic spy. For further proof that this love story won’t necessarily involve a new love interest, just rewatch Wonder Woman: Diana Prince definitely does not need a man.

While we all wait ravenously for more details about Wonder Woman 2, which is scheduled to be released in December 2019, feel free to overanalyze everything else Patty said about the film in the podcast episode. “It’s really still going to other values of hers, and a similar formula insofar as making a great, enjoyable fun movie, but that ultimately, in its third act, turns some very big issues, and a very big experience that will aim to have slightly more weight and profundity than it has to have. Because that’s a formula that I really like, and I like the idea of taking somebody on a very solid, great journey but that arrives at a bigger question being answered,” she said. “I feel like it’s just the right amount the same world of Wonder Woman as the first movie, while being a completely different story that tackles something very different but very similarly singular. One story.”
