Watch 'Stranger Things' Stars Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo Give Love Advice

Now that Stranger Things has officially been renewed for season three, it’s time to kick those fan theories into high gear—namely, anything having to do with Steve and Dustin. The duo charmed our hearts in ways we never expected, and that friendship extended off-screen as well between co-stars Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo. In person, they finish each other’s sentences in person and have in-depth conversations about almost everything. (For instance, thinking about changing your name to “Taco?” Yep, they have deep thoughts on that.) So when we had them come to our Glamour Los Angeles office to play a game of “Live Life Advice,” the two were more than ready to play therapist and reveal more about themselves in the process. Watch the video, above, and then read on for five amazing things we learned about Joe and Gaten.

1. Gaten knows the perfect ’80s love song. When a Twitter user asked the guys to recommend a really cool song to sing to her girlfriend, Gaten first offered up some early Justin Bieber, before randomly bursting out the lyrics to Foreigner’s 1984 hit, “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Yes, Gaten stars on the ’80s-set Stranger Things, but since he’s only 15 years old that knowledge had to come from somewhere, right? “My parents!” Gaten says. “They always have it play on the radio, so that’s what we’d all listen to.” Note to Duffer Bros: If you guys don’t find a way to incorporate karaoke for Dustin in season three, it’ll be a lost opportunity for all of us.

2. Gaten and Joe Keery love talking about their hair. Dustin/Gaten and Steve/Joe both have an amazing head of hair, but you’ll be comforted to know that they talk about it as much as you hope they do. Take this exchange for example:

Joe: I’ve had so many bad haircuts.
Gaten: I had a horrific haircut. This guy gave me a mullet. It was honestly no business in the front, so I wore a lot of hats.
Joe: [So our advice to anyone who wants to know what to do about a bad haircut is] just don’t get a haircut. Or wear a hat.

After the cameras stopped rolling, Joe commented that Gaten just got a haircut and noted, “it’s already grown back so fast.” Gaten confirmed Joe’s timeline and said, “Yeah, I just got a haircut about a month ago, and it’s already growing back so fast.” Naturally, talk then turned to Joe’s hair (I mean, even co-star David Harbour’s Instagram account is dedicated to Joe and his hair), with Joe noting that “I gotta get a haircut soon.”

3. They agree on the three qualities most attractive in other people. As if we needed more proof why Joe and Gaten are national treasures, then consider this: When a Twitter user asked them about the most attractive thing about a girl, they answered in unison: “Sense of humor, intelligence, and kindness.” (Word of advice: If you want to really make them laugh, sneeze the loudest you ever have—as I did at the beginning of their video—and watch them lose it. True story.)

4. Gaten is wise beyond his years when it comes to dating etiquette. Whether Gaten has been on one date, no dates, or a bunch at this point, one thing is for sure: He knows what he’s talking about. When asked about how to be likable, Gaten had the perfect response: “Talk to people. Ask about their day.” And what about who should pay on a date? While Gaten admitted that’s something he would prefer to do, he noted that he was always taught “whoever asks the person on the date should be the person that pays.” Joe, meanwhile, could use some help. “I have no idea. I’ve never been on date.” (Suuuure, buddy.)

5. Joe is a Polaroid bandit. In our Glamour L.A. office, we have a photo wall with fun polaroids of everyone who comes in to visit. So before Joe and Gaten arrived, I placed the camera in a hidden spot in the green room (that way no one would start snapping pictures without asking first). Of course, somehow in the five minutes I stepped out of the room, Joe found the camera—and did just that. Good thing we didn’t run out of film for Gaten! But who could be upset with someone like Joe? He’s as nice as he seems and offers up these words of wisdom when a fan asks how to get over heartbreak: “You just gotta live your life and do it your way.” Keep doing you, Joe. Even if you’re using up all my film.

Watch 'Stranger Things' Stars Joe Keery and Gaten Matarazzo Stare Into Each Other's Eyes for 4 Minutes

A strange thing happened on Stranger Things 2 this season, and it had nothing to do with the Mind Flayer, the Demogorgon, or the Upside Down. In fact, the producers didn’t even plan it, the actors didn’t expect it, and the audience certainly didn’t see it coming. In short, Joe Keery‘s Steve and Gaten Matarazzo‘s Dustin became the super couple we never knew we needed.

“I love it, but I didn’t see it happening,” Matarazzo admitted when he stopped by the Glamour Los Angeles offices to film our Intimacy Exercises video (see below). “It was always supposed to be a joke, like, ‘Aww, that will be cute,’ but then [the characters] actually connected.”

“We didn’t even know we were working together until halfway through shooting,” Keery added. I saw [Gaten’s] work last year and loved it and was really excited to work with him more. I thought our scenes were going to be pretty funny, but they had heart to them too.”

Both actors are unanimous when picking their favorite moment of the season: “The railroad scene!” they said in unison. “It was so much fun,” Keery explained. “It was also the first time having almost three pages of dialogue.”

But fans might say their favorite scene is when Steve drops off Dustin at the Snowball, complete with matching hairstyles. “I think I maybe saw a photo of his hair first [before I saw him in person],” Keery revealed. “I was like, ‘Welcome to the club!’ I was into it! I was impressed. He got more volume than I’ll ever even get close to.”

Since the show wrapped filming, the guys sadly haven’t gotten to see each other much. The last time they hung out was at the show’s second season premiere in L.A., nearly a month before our Glamour shoot. “It’s fun to hang out with this guy,” Keery said of their reunion. “The best part of today has been laughing so much,” Matarazzo added. “I never laugh this hard, ever.”

So what exactly brought the guys to tears from cracking up so much? Well, in a series of bonding activities for “Intimacy Exercises” they had to write down and tell each other compliments, stare into each other’s eyes for four minutes, and then do a trust fall. (The latter isn’t so easy when one person is nearly a foot taller than the other!) The result is the best thing you’ll see all day—trust us and watch, below:

'Riverdale' Stars K.J. Apa and Madelaine Petsch Say Black Hood's Identity Will Be Revealed Soon

Riverdale may be taking the week of Thanksgiving off, but there are still plenty of theories and conspiracies to feast on before it returns November 29. For one, there’s the never-ending mystery of the Black Hood’s identity and how Betty will cope with the reveal of the man or woman behind the mask. There’s also Fred Andrews, who may not be out of the woods after he was nearly gunned down by the Black Hood in the season two premiere. And what about Madelaine Petsch‘s Cheryl Blossom, who has been seriously underused throughout season two thus far? It turns out that her story—and love life—is about to majorly heat up.

With plenty more to discuss, we caught up with K.J. Apa (Archie Andrews) and Madelaine Petsch to break down all those theories and more! Read on.

When you found out who the Black Hood was, what was your reaction?

K.J. Apa: I already knew. I guessed it. But everything is very…it’s hard to say.

Madelaine Petsch: I didn’t guess it. When I read it, it shocked me, but you won’t have to wait much longer. A couple more episodes and the mystery will be revealed.

Let’s talk about Fred Andrews. In last week’s episode, Archie casually asked if his dad was doing OK. My first reaction was, “Hmm, a line like that wouldn’t be in the script without it meaning something.” Right?

K.J.: There’s a reason for everything.

Should viewers be worried about him?

K.J.: I think at this stage, yeah. The reason for that scene was to give a little bit of concern for how he’s doing health-wise, I think, but yeah. For sure, they should be a little bit concerned.

In other random thoughts, feel free to confirm or deny: Since Cheryl and Archie both have red hair, is there a chance they could be related?

PHOTO: Diyah Pera

K.J.: I’ve wondered that before.

Madelaine: Well, we’ve kissed on the show, so let’s not give the incest thing any more fire than it needs!

K.J.: Yeah, but like, we didn’t know [then] that we could have been related.

Madelaine: I personally think no. I know plenty of other redheads that I’m not related to personally, so…

K.J.: True, true.

Madelaine: …that I grew up with, but you never know. It is Riverdale. My whole theory now is it’s Riverdale. Anything can happen!

What can you tease about the rest of the year?

Madelaine: Cheryl has an unexpected love interest coming into the picture very soon.

Is it a man or a woman?

Madelaine: We’ll find out. TBD!

And K.J., what about Archie?

K.J.: Archie is out for revenge right now. He wants [to take down] the Black Hood.

Halloween 2017: The Best Mermaid Makeup Tips From Instagram Beauty Stars

Consider this your look if you like to go all out for Halloween. According to makeup artist Rachel Bourne (@rachbournemakeupx), you can DIY it with just a handful of extra-pigmented products and glitter. She recommends shimmery, purple eyeshadows on both your lids and brows and a bright blue eyeliner all over your lips as lipstick. Once that’s set, press M.A.C. Cosmetics Trolls Collection Glitter in Reflects onto your lips to make them pop. And if you really want to look like you just emerged from a tide pool: Add pastel tones to your hair using colored hair sprays.

The first rule of mermaid-ing: Don’t forget the scales! “I use a mesh wig cap over my face and a dense stippling brush to layer three different eye shadow shades: Pussy Cat and Purr from the TooFaced Cat Eyes Palette and Wham Bam from the TooFaced The Power of Makeup Palette by Nikkie Tutorials,” says makeup artist Yasmine Violet (@lifeiswhatyoucakeit). Concentrate the color at your contour and along your hairline, remove the mesh, then add to lids for a mesmerizing monochromatic face.

This look—by makeup artist Emily Dear Heart (@emilydearheart)—begins with fishnet stockings (we know, so appropriate), instead of a wig cap, to create a scale-y finish on skin. “Put one whole leg over your face,” Emily explains. “It’s easier than holding the fishnets. If they move while you’re applying a color it can muddy the scales.” Another pro tip: Use a tightly-wound dome-shaped brush to deposit your pigment. The tighter the bristles, the more opaque the result will be. We love this $14 mini version from Sephora.

Mermaid makeup isn’t just for your face. Extending the scaly effect to your neck and shoulders, like Instagram makeup artist Ilinca Bulai (@ilincabulai), really commits to the costume. “I started by placing the scales where my normal face contour and highlight would go, and then added more scales to my body,” Ilinca says. Concentrate on the outside edges of your shoulders and collarbone for the most eye-catching result.

Instead of the typical shimmery blue and green mermaid hues, rock a darker, smoky eye and a vampy grape lip for a more mysterious version of Ariel.

Who says merpeople can’t wear a rainbow of hues? Kat Smith (@Kat_v_Smith) combined pink, purple, and blue here. After applying primer, foundation, eyeshadow, and blush, Smith cut a tube out of fishnet panty hose and placed it over her head. She then layered extra-bright blue and purple shades on her cheeks and forehead for a pretty two-tone effect. And that lip? NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Little Denim Dress.

Don’t limit yourself to just eyeshadow to create scales. Instagram makeup artist Mari (@awakened17), used a nail art kit, complete with sparkly stick-ons, to add a textured feel to her cheek. If scales feel too advanced, this half-mermaid, half-avatar vibe, created by makeup artist Becca Geary (@beccagearymakeup), is slightly more simple. Geary blended blue shadows around her face, neck, and—yes—ears. It’s one of the most important steps for making the look appear realistic, she says.

Makeup artist Kat Winter (@_katwinter) used different tones of blue and orange eyeshadow from the Urban Decay Vice4 Eyeshadow Palette and the Make Up Revolution Mermaids vs Unicorns Palette on top of full-coverage base for her mermaid moment. Our favorite detail? The gorgeous highlight on the inner corner of her eye—a “water droplet sparkle.”

Take away the scales, and this makeup could pass for an awesome everyday style—ideal for anyone who wants to take the fishiness out of mermaid makeup. Makeup artist Orianne Vialo (@na_noune) used green and silver to recreate subtle fish scales then added a few shimmering details: “I defined the edges of some of the scales with a gold-colored liquid eyeliner,” she says. The same gold lined her crease to tie it all together.

This neon mermaid vibe is not for the faint of heart. But, man, if it won’t get you a million likes. Using cut-up fishnet gloves, makeup artist Noelle Uranga (@mindcreation_makeup) traced a fish scale pattern against her face with bright blue and fluorescent green eyeshadow. “I kept the scales on my forehead and cheekbones so they would stand out above the rest of the makeup,” she says. If you’re going this bright, keep the color theme consistent throughout: “I added those same colors to my eyelids, eyebrows, and lips.” Last but not least: a little glitter above the brows. Because obviously.

No mermaid forgets her brows. Makeup artist Erika Marie (@erikamariemua) layered NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk under iridescent blue eyeshadow to make hers pop. For lids, Erika applied frosted purple shades, accentuating the inner corner and center of her eyes with Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Cascade (the same shade highlighted her cheekbones). Last but not least: a few false lashes and Lime Crime’s Liquid Lipstick in Wisteria, a lilac shade.

Doing Halloween on a budget? Good news, makeup artist Hannah Reed (@hmillmakeup) used almost all $5 NYX products here. “I used NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a base for the scales, NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Epic as the second layer, and finished NYX Prismatic Color in Mermaid to give a nice sheen,” she says.
