Netflix Party App: Here's How You Can Watch With Friends While Social Distancing


Netflix just made social distancing so much easier. Since people have been practicing self-isolation to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, they’ve discovered a genius app that lets them watch Netflix content with their friends. It’s called Netlix Party.

OK, so it’s not an app, per se: It’s a Google Chrome extension that’s free to download. Click here to put it on your browser. From there, use is pretty simple.

After hitting “Install Netflix Party” on the above link’s homepage, you’ll be redirected to the Chrome Web Store. Click “Add to Chrome” to officially finish downloading the extension. Then, go to Netflix and select any show or movie you’d like to watch. After, hit the “NP” icon that should now be on your address bar. Hit “Start Party” to kick off your joint viewing, and share the specific party URL to the people you want invited.

If you’re the invitee, click the party link your friend sent you. You’ll be redirected to Netflix’s website, at which point you’ll hit the “NP” button next to your address bar. This should automatically add you to the Netflix Party. A TikTok user made a full tutorial on how to do this if you’d like a visual:

This is a game-changer for people struggling with the necessary social distancing that has to happen right now. Naturally, the response on Twitter has been rapturous. “Friendly reminder for all the bored quarantined people, there’s an extension called Netflix Party that lets you watch synced up shows/ movies with your friends!!” one person posted.

Another wrote, “So Netflix recently launched this Google Chrome plug-in called ‘Netflix Party’ up to 500k ppl can watch the same movie/show in sync and has a chat room to allow for real time comments! I just added it to my chrome who’s down to do a movie night!? “

I know exactly what I’m doing tonight.

Are You the One? (2014—)

After a series of interviews and tests, about 20 men and women are matched using the series’ fancy algorithm. Unfortunately for some of them, the singles are not told who their ideal partner actually is. Instead, they have to get to know everyone and take weekly tests to see if they can figure out their perfect match. If everyone finds their “one” by the end of the series, they win love and money. This might be the closest one to Love is Blind. Watch on MTV.

The Voice (2011—)

At least at first, all the very famous judges of The Voice know about the competing singers is their actual voice. During the blind auditions, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and newly-minted judge Nick Jonas are seated in chairs facing away from the stage. The singers have to perform their asses off to impress the judges who have the option to turn around and bring the performer onto their team. If more than one chair turns, the tables do too—the performer then gets to choose which judge is right for them. From there, it basically turns into every other vocal show, but if you love the judges as much as I do, The Voice is the best one on TV right now. Watch on Hulu.

The Circle (2020—)

The Circle is often described as “Big Brother meets Catfish,” and it delivers on that promise. Like Love Is Blind, the contestants never meet face-to-face, each living in their own apartment. Instead of communicating through walls, they create profiles on a social media app designed specifically for the reality show. (This means they can portray themselves however they wish.) To take home the $100,000 grand prize, the contestants rate one another each episode, eliminating the lowest-ranking players one by one. Whoever makes it to the end gets the money. No love to be found here, necessarily, but it is just as fun to watch as LIB. Watch on Netflix.

Back with the Ex (2018)

Whoever created Back with the Ex must be looking at all of our Instagram stalking habits. Back with the Ex follows four people trying to reignite an old flame. From high school sweethearts who were driven apart by a cheating scandal to a six-year relationship that ended via text message, this show may pull on your heartstrings more than any other on this list. Feels too real, you know? Watch on Netflix.

Dating Around (2019)

Dating Around follows one person each episode as they embark on five (mostly awkward) first dates. Once the dates are over, they pick the one they’d like to go out with again. Like the best of Netflix documentary series, Dating Around is a much more honest look at life in the dating world as opposed to a gimmicky game. Watch on Netflix.

Shows Like ‘Cheer’ on Netflix — What to Watch After ‘Cheer’


Since the moment Cheer tumbled onto Netflix in January, everyone’s become obsessed with the cheerleading documentary series. Simone Biles wants to join the Navarro cheer squad, Ellen DeGeneres had the crew perform their 2019 nationals routine on her show, and the entire cast has joined their friend Gabi as certified cheer-lebrities on social media. Seriously, Cheer even got the SNL treatment with a scathing sketch about getting on the mat.

Luckily, we have plenty of updates about what our favorite tumblers, flyers, and stunters have been up to since Daytona. Lexi, Jerry, Morgan, and La’Darius are back at the junior college (although it looks like Jerry may have a new job as a professional “mat talker”), while Gabi is competing with Miami’s Top Gun Cheer squad.

The binge must go on, so here are eight more shows to watch instead of sitting around, waiting for news on season two….

Last Chance U (2016–)

Last Chance U is basically Cheer but with football, which isn’t surprising considering it was directed by the same person. This series also follows players who join elite programs at the junior college level, but unlike Cheer—which stresses multiple times that there is no real future in cheerleading as a sport—these athletes have a chance to go on to major NFL careers. The stakes are incredibly high, and the pain the athletes face to make feels achingly familiar. Watch on Netflix.

Spinning Out (2020–)

The new Netflix drama centers on the world of competitive ice skating, but the athleticism, showmanship, and costumes aren’t the only things the series has in common with Cheer. The characters in Spinning Out are fraught with traumatic family lives, interpersonal conflict, and athletes who’d rather mask brutal injuries than miss out on competing. Watch on Netflix.

The one thing Spinning Out has that Cheer doesn’t is a pretty steamy love triangle…if you’re into that sort of thing.

Leaving Netflix in February 2020: These 38 Movies and Shows Are Exiting Your Queue


Listen, we know it’s hard when your faves suddenly disappear from Netflix. Perhaps you were mid-binge or just never got around to hitting play on the show that’s been in your queue for years. Or maybe you’re still sad you can no longer watch the “Pivot” episode of Friends for the millionth time.

But you can plan ahead—at least somewhat, as we now know which movies and shows will be leaving the platform in February. If you’re new to Keanu Reeves fandom, thanks to his renaissance in films like Always Be My Maybe and the John Wick movies, you’ll need to get your Matrix fix now before Neo and his red and blue pills leave Netflix later next month. Netflix Wants to Work With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on The Crown


It’s only been a few days since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed they’d be leaving their current roles as working royals. However, the job offers are already rolling in for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, including one potential offer to take part in the Netflix hit drama, The Crown.

For those of you somehow not in the know about the award-winning (and highly bingeable) show, The Crown is a fictionalized account of Queen Elizabeth II’s life, along with the lives of her family members. The show recently dropped its third season, which chronicles the teenage years of Queen Elizabeth’s son, Prince Charles. Season four is currently in production and will reportedly feature Charles’ introduction and early marriage to Princess Diana. So it’s only a matter of time before the world is introduced to a baby, child, teen, and adult Prince Harry.

Naturally, following Harry and Meghan’s bombshell announcement to leave the monarchy in an official capacity—and the news that the pair has renounced any public funding in the future—royals fans have theorized that Markle may return to acting. And, some even speculated she and Harry could somehow join forces with The Crown. And it appears Netflix is keen on the idea as well.

“Who wouldn’t be interested?” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarando said at the Producer’s Guild Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday, per a report from The Daily Mail. “Yes, sure.”

While this is still a hypothetical it’s not that unprecedented. After all, Meghan has already reportedly signed a deal with Disney to do voiceover work in exchange for a charitable contribution to Elephants Without Borders.

Perhaps a cameo in season 5 could be worked out if Netflix is feeling equally charitable.
