The Trick Miranda Kerr Swears By for Super Shiny Hair

Since I was little, my mom used to say, “:et your little light shine.” That just meant shine your heart, your light, into the world. I feel like no matter who you are, when you do that, you’re the most beautiful.

Which women are inspiring you the most right now?

My grandmother because she’s the epitome of grace, has a generous spirit, and an infectious laugh.

If you could change one thing about beauty perceptions, what would that be?

Every single person has so much beauty inside of them, and when they feel confident within themselves and comfortable in their own skin, that beauty really can shine through. I just feel like that needs to be captured more in all areas, all shapes and sizes, all backgrounds. When someone’s comfortable in their own skin, they really radiate on the outside.

What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

I’ve practiced meditation for a long time, so I can just recenter and focus on my breath. Even if I’m in the middle of chaotic situations, I can kind of zone into my quiet place. Obviously it’s great when I can meditate in a quiet, calm place, but it’s not always possible.

How much time do you spend getting ready?

I’ve never timed it, but I have a theory that it takes me seven minutes to get ready from literally in my PJs to out the door. That doesn’t include my shower, though. Let’s say I’ve already done that and cleansed my face. It takes me seven minutes to do my skin-care routine, add some concealer, a little highlighter, and there you go! I’m pretty quick.

What’s your go-to perfume and why?

I don’t do perfumes. For the longest time I’ve been using essential oils, and I really love geranium, neroli, and sandalwood. A friend of mine made a mix for me, and that’s what I use. It’s all organic essential oils. I have a Heart Chakra Aromatherapy with Kora, which is rose otto and sandalwood as well, which is amazing. Even my nine-year-old, Flynn, uses the aromatherapy essential oil. He carries that in his bag at school, so whenever he’s feeling stressed or overwhelmed he puts a little bit of that aromatherapy on because it’s for your heart chakra.

Does Flynn want to try all of your products?

He wants to try everything all the time. If he sees friends who are using something, he’ll be like, “Is that organic? What are you using?” It’s pretty cute.

In the Heights: Here's Everything We Know About the Lin-Manuel Miranda Movie

Macall Polay/Warner Bros.

Here’s everything else we know so far about the In the Heights movie.

The release date. The movie opens on June 26, 2020.

The creative team. Miranda, of course, is the man behind the music in the film. Quiara Alegría Hudes, who wrote the book for the musical, is the screenwriter. They both also serve as producers. The movie is directed by Jon M. Chu, of Crazy Rich Asians fame.

“You’re going to hear the word magic a lot today,” Chu said when introducing the trailer. “There’s no other word to express what we felt shooting this movie every day. It starts with Lin and Quiara; they planted this magical seed that they planted into all of us. We had the best summer of our lives.”

The cast. Along with Ramos as Usnavi, the cast also includes Jimmy Smits as Kevin Rosario, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as Benny, Melissa Barrera as Vanessa, Leslie Grace as Nina, Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black) as Cuca, Marc Anthony as Sonny’s father, and Daphne Rubin-Vega as Daniela. Miranda will play the role of Piragüero.

“This is the dream team,” Miranda said. “This is the dream, dream, dream team and some of us have been with this thing for a while…everyone here is a superstar.”

This post will be updated as new information is released.

Miranda Hobbes, an Underrated Fashion Icon, Finally Gets Her Due

After spending twenty years in the shadow of television’s preeminent It girl, Miranda Hobbes has finally reached style-icon status. The fashion pendulum has swung, and puffer jackets, boxy suits, and Harvard hoodies are decidedly “in.” When Sex and the City first aired, though, Ms. Hobbes’s hypercorporate style went largely unnoticed. But just because she didn’t have the wherewithal to wear a man’s shirt as a dress doesn’t mean that she lacked style. Although conservative, Miranda’s wardrobe was distinctly androgynous, setting her apart from other archetypal “working women” on television. That (and her flame-red hair) gave her an instantly recognizable look that has stood the test of time.

Her penchant for oversize, nondescript clothing has also aged well, anticipating trends in both high fashion and streetwear. But despite her chicer moments, Miranda’s wardrobe was designed to position her as the show’s everywoman, not the ingenue. Sweatshirts, tote bags, and flat sandals were all off-duty staples. Unglamorous loungewear was abundant, while Samantha-esque lingerie was scant.

Unlike her cohorts, Miranda was subjected to a host of horrors including (but not limited to) a neck brace, adult braces, and an entire season of lackluster postpartum looks. Throughout the series, Ms. Hobbes’s mere presence was a reminder that the show was based in reality. Even after she reemerged as a couture-clad glamazon in the first Sex and the City film, audiences knew that the real Miranda was the makeup-free woman in gym clothes.

HBO

In recent years, the fashion world has finally caught up with Miranda’s comfort-based, office-focused aesthetic. She has unwittingly become the patron saint of normcore, a youth-driven stylistic movement that recalls the unpretentious, mass-market clothing of the Y2K era. Several luxury brands have embraced this ethos, most notably Balenciaga, whose runway shows feature bare-faced, puffer jacket–clad models who could easily be mistaken for Ms. Hobbes. Her early-series staples like dad hats, sweatpants, and oversize blazers can now be purchased at Barneys. Echoes of her gender-bending business attire can be seen in recent collections from female-focused designers like Phoebe Philo and Victoria Beckham.

But just because you personally identify with Miranda does not mean that you have to adopt her signature look, however fabulous. No one is forcing you to wear turtlenecks and Tevas.

Dressing like a Miranda means sharing her attitude and outlook, not necessarily her penchant for track pants. Not all Mirandas are fashionistas, but that doesn’t mean that we lack style. Some of us live for clothes, while others give fewer fucks than Steve’s mom. But no matter where you fall on the clotheshorse spectrum, every Miranda has a basic understanding of what kind of clothes suit her.

Miranda Kerr Says Women 'Need to Make a Little Effort' When It Comes to Pleasing a Man

If you’re having trouble pleasing your man, Miranda Kerr has an easy solution. All it takes is a fancy dress, some candles, and learning to “slip into” your “feminine”—whatever that means.

In May, the model and mother walked down the aisle to wed Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. Now, she’s opening up about her married life, saying the apparent key to her marital success is due to a rather old-school tip she picked up from her grandmother.

“My grandma taught me that men are visual and you need to make a little effort,” Kerr told The Edit in a recent interview. She revealed that when her husband comes home, she’s always prepared with the perfect mood lighting and a brand new outfit.

“…When [Evan] comes home, I make sure to have a nice dress on and the candles lit,” she said. “We make time to have a nice dinner together.”

Must be nice! But don’t put away your notebook yet, ladies, because Kerr has some more top-notch advice for you.

Kerr noted that she may be a boss in the boardroom with her skincare line KORA Organics, but she tries to bring out her “feminine” side at home—which she equates to being submissive—for Spiegel.

“At work, I’m like, ‘We need to do this!’ and, ‘This needs to happen!’ But at home, I slip into my feminine and empower Evan to be in his masculine,” Kerr revealed.

When asked what she meant by “slip into your feminine,” Kerr said, “Just be more in my feelings. More gentle, leaning back. It’s a nice balance.”

Kerr went on to credit some of her business’ success to Speigel, saying the Snapchat co-founder “inspired her” to focus more of her energy on her own company rather than wasting it on other peoples’.

“He said, ‘Why are you spending your energy working for other companies when you should be focusing on your own? You need to take a risk. If you believe in this, put everything into it,'” Kerr said.

Her marriage advice may be a little antiquated, but Kerr’s unorthodox beauty regimes are anything but. She’s apparently a fan of leech facials—”You can feel their little teeth,” she said—and magnet treatments that involve placing magnets all over your body for 15 minutes. “It’s magic,” she said. Whatever floats your boat, girl.
