Reese Witherspoon Loves That She’s ‘Earned’ Her Gray Hairs and Fine Lines

Reese Witherspoon has basically grown up in front of the world. She starred in her first film—the wonderful Man in the Moon—in 1991, when she was just 14 years old. Now, at 43, she’s not only a successful actress but an acclaimed producer who’s helping shepherd interesting stories about all different kinds of women through the Hollywood machine.

Even though she works in an industry that has long been focused on women’s looks—and struggled to know what to do with them as they get (gasp!) older—she’s not afraid of aging. In fact, she’s proud of the physical signs of getting older. “I have a point of view because I’ve been on this planet for 43 years, and I didn’t feel that same way when I was 25,” she says in a new interview with Allure. “I didn’t have the same things to say. I’m 43 and I’ve had a whole bunch of experiences, and I can speak with a thoughtfulness about the changes I’d like to see in the world, and…I just feel like I earned that gray hair and my fine lines. I like ’em. I so prefer 43 to 25.” As a fellow 43-year-old woman myself, I very much agree with everything Witherspoon says here.

But she also gets those grays touched up by her longtime colorist, Lorri Goddard, and that’s OK too. “It takes three hours to have my highlights done, no joke. I go every seven or eight weeks,” she said. “I’m starting to get gray around the edges of my hairline. Lorri doesn’t like to call them grays, though. She says they’re ‘hyper-blonds.'”

Obviously, Witherspoon has looked fabulous at every age, but she does have some beauty regrets from the nineties—including dark brown lipstick, which she wore to get her driver’s license at 16, and ultra-thin eyebrows. “In the nineties, we plucked our brows really thin. I said ‘we’…at least I did. And it just looked awful. Thank God they grew back, but, I mean, who knows what they might look like now if I hadn’t plucked them into oblivion!”

Alex Rodriguez Loves Jennifer Lopez So Much, He Works Out to Her Music

Alex Rodriguez proved himself the ultimate Instagram boyfriend in 2018, taking photos of Jennifer Lopez seemingly every chance he got. Now, he’s bringing that energy into 2019, first by working out to Lopez’s music.

The baseball vet posted a video to Instagram on Wednesday (January 2) of himself and Lopez sweating it out at their local gym. Just watching this clip will elevate your heartbeat, so it’s a good thing Lopez’s song “Limitless” is playing in the background. It’ll keep you motivated to the very end—just like (I’m assuming) it did for Lopez and Rodriguez’s actual workout.

“The grind never stops,” Rodriguez captioned the video. “What are you going to make of 2019?” I’m not sure what I’ll make of 2019 yet, but I know I will do it set to Jennifer Lopez’s severely under-appreciated discography.

Check out Rodriguez’s video for yourself, below:

So what other J.Lo-inspired workouts will A-Rod do this year? Burpees set to “Love Don’t Cost a Thing?” Weight training while blasting “Waiting for Tonight” (or “Weighting for Tonight”)? A half marathon listening to nothing but “Dance Again” on a loop? The possibilities are, well, limitless.

“Jennifer has given so much to me and my kids over the last two years,” Rodriguez told People magazine in December about his relationship with Lopez. “Her best quality is undoubtedly her generosity. I see it every day and my kids see it as well.”

Lopez returned the favor, telling People about Rodriguez, “Everything feels healthy and different. We bring something to each other’s lives that is profound, good and healthy.”

Now go buy “Limitless” on iTunes. It’s a bop!

Why Alexa PenaVega Loves Starring in Hallmark Christmas Movies

It’s been a stressful year, but at least you can count on Hallmark, Lifetime, and Netflix to come through with the holiday cheer. After all, what’s more relaxing than watching an overworked woman fall in love with a Christmas tree farmer? So decompress with all of our delightful holiday content right here.

Alexa PenaVega is in the middle of filming her Hallmark Christmas movie, Christmas Made to Order (which premiered December 23), when she lets me in on a secret: Her character may dream of becoming a holiday decorator, but Alexa’s not good at it herself. “That’s [my husband] Carlos’ thing,” she says. “He has a great eye for it, and I don’t. Yet I’m the one that’s like, ‘I want Christmas all year round!'”

But what PenaVega lacks in decor skills, she more than makes up for in holiday spirit. And like her character in Christmas Made to Order, if there’s something lacking in her life she’ll find a way to change it.

PenaVega has had a lot of practice with that. In the business for more than 20 years, she started with the Burt Reynolds/Marilu Henner series Evening Shade in 1993. She followed that with roles in films like Little Giants, Nine Months, and Twister, but it was her debut in Spy Kids that made her a star. Since then, she’s done everything from Broadway to Dancing with the Stars.

Her personal life is her biggest priority now, and that’s what drew her to Hallmark. Because of the network’s commitment to families (especially for women), PenaVega has become one of its familiar faces. Christmas Made to Order marks her fourth Hallmark movie, and another one—Picture Perfect Mysteries—is already planned for 2019.

“Carlos and I want to be able to do films that our families are proud of and everybody can watch,” she says. “They just feel good, and Hallmark has been that place for us. They’re all about family, and they want to keep [me and Carlos] working together. They really do walk the walk. That’s what separates them from other networks.”

Here, PenaVega opens up more about what it’s like to do a Hallmark Christmas movie, the changes she’s noticing on-screen, and more. Read on.

Fred Hayes/Crown Media

Glamour: Are Hallmark Christmas movies everything you thought they would be and more?

Alexa PenaVega: Yes, I love Hallmark Christmas movies because they’re out-of-control awesome. There are no limits. We had 15 trees in a scene the other day, and our director asked for another one. He wasn’t kidding! You can’t go overboard. In fact, one of my first married fights with Carlos was over Christmas trees. [Laughs] I was adamant about a real tree because I’ve only had real trees. Christmas trees are my jam.

What other traditions are important to you during the holidays?

APV: This is going to be a weird thing to say, but my ex-husband’s mom is incredible—we’ve always gotten along so well. There were so many traditions from his family that she taught me, and one of them was making homemade caramels. I wrote her a couple years ago on Mother’s Day and said, “I just wanted you to know that we’ve taken this tradition into our family.” She wrote me back, “I’m crying!” There was a lot of peace in that breakup, and I love his family. Even in a difficult situation, it’s special to be able to bring beautiful family traditions that Carlos and I love and can give to our son, Ocean, as he grows up. Carlos was super positive about it. You don’t ever hear stories about stuff like that, because usually it’s “the breakup was terrible.” I took so many beautiful traditions from his family, even this amazing mustard dip that I make every year. My ex’s mom is from South Dakota, so it’s the best Midwest food. Carlos and I are Latino, so we can give you a Columbian Christmas with Midwest [traditions].

Meghan Markle Loves & Other Stories As Much As You Do

We know Meghan Markle loves her custom Givenchy. We also know the Duchess of Sussex loves her off-the-rack Aritzia, J.Crew, and other more affordable brands she probably shopped during her pre-royal days. While making her first official trip to Sussex with Prince Harry, Markle wore an outfit that proved we have more in common with a Duchess’s wardrobe than we might think.

Markle went with a monochromatic look, sticking with an olive-green color palette for her base layer and a cream coat up top to visit Edes House. The fashion blog Meghan’s Mirror, which tracks Markle’s outfits, identified her polished button-down as from & Other Stories, the beloved Swedish fast-fashion brand (which, by the way, is having an amazing sale right now.)

PHOTO: Karwai Tang

The rest of her outfit was a lot more luxe: Her coat was from Emporio Armani, her leather pencil skirt was from Hugo Boss, and her nude pumps were from Stuart Weitzman. She also carried a Gabriela Hearst bag.

Though it was in stock for a bit this morning, Markle’s $99 & Other Stories top has since sold out in her chosen green hue. It’s still available in black, white, and off-white, though.

That wasn’t the only affordable element of the Duchess’ look: Hello! brought attention to Markle’s new signet ring, which the publication identified as Missoma’s Mantra Open Heart Signet Ring, available online for $110. (Meghan’s Mirror pointed out that her favorite $44 Catbird Threadbare Rings also made an appearance.)

Max Papendieck nearly missed meeting Julia van Os at New York City nightclub the Blond two years ago. “It was one of those nights you’re like, Ah, I’m not sure if I’m going to do anything,” the Australian photographer says. Spoiler alert: He went. She approached. They kissed. “You don’t really meet people you get serious about in a nightclub. We’re, like, the exception,” says Os, a model from the Netherlands. “I would say that Max is my best friend.”

For Alex Crush and Amilna Estevão, it all started in a karaoke bar. “She had a lot of life. She smiled a lot,” says Crush, a gender-fluid model. “In this industry it’s hard if you’re different, and I’m very different. Amilna’s always been supportive in everything I do or want to be.” As for Estevão, who was born in Angola and became a model at 14, “Alex taught me that I’m the prettiest black girl in the world,” she says. “People told me that before, but Alex made me believe it.”

“Lucky’s superpower is that he makes people feel like they’re on top of the world,” says actress Pyper America Smith. “You feel like you literally have wings.” According to little bro Lucky—model, actor, and new father—the feeling of awe is mutual. “Pyper doesn’t realize how cool she is,” he says. “I genuinely don’t think she comprehends it.”

“The first time I saw Kunal, he was wearing a trucker hat, cutoff gloves, hipster glasses, and a scarf,” fashion designer Neha Kapur Nayyar recalls of meeting the Big Bang Theory star in 2009. “It took me a while to find him among all that.” Though she wasn’t impressed with her future husband’s accessories and was oblivious to his fame—“I had never seen the show,” she admits—Kunal was already a goner. “My first thought was, This is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he says. “My second thought was, She’s way out of my league.” The two married in New Delhi two years later. The cutoff gloves stayed home.

“‘Despacito’ is the girls’ favorite song right now,” says Maria Dueñas Jacobs, director of brand development at Stitch Fix (and a former editor at Glamour and Elle). “It’s pretty much inappropriate for their age, but they love that it’s in Spanish, their first language. To them it’s about love, kissing, and slowing things down, despacito…. Having them as daughters is the biggest love I’ve ever felt.”

Actress Samira Wiley and television writer Lauren Morelli first met on the set of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black in 2012. “The first time I saw Lauren, I thought, Whoa—she’s really young to have this job. She must be really f-cking talented,” Wiley says. (Says Morelli: “I remember feeling like she was magnetic.”) Five years and four Emmy wins later, the pair, who exchanged vows in Palm Springs last spring, are still each other’s biggest fans. “I know Lauren loves me when she texts me during the day and tells me she misses me,” Wiley says. “It’s so wonderful to feel wanted and needed.”

It was the summer of 2015 in New York City when model-stylist-actor Luka Sabbat—wearing head-to-toe red—caught Adriana Mora’s eye. “I thought, Who is that?” the Costa Rican–born model says with a laugh. “And what is he wearing?” (The ensemble was Raf Simons and Supreme, if you must know.) His first impression of her? “That she was fire,” he says, “and she was mad weird—and mad interesting.”

“We met playing beer pong in college,” Younger star Nico Tortorella says of his love of 11 years, fitness entrepreneur Bethany C. Meyers. (FYI: Her seam tattoo runs from her ankle to her armpit to her wrist!) The duo has been what they call “twin flames in a polyamorous, queer relationship” ever since. So do they have their own romance language? “A few different dialects,” jokes Tortorella. Adds Meyers: “I know his love patterns better than he does. Nico falls in love very deeply—people come into his life and sweep him away. I can usually see a bigger picture of how long it will last.”

A mutual friend tried to set up Moj Mahdara and Roya Rastegar 11 years ago: “She was like, ‘I found your future wife,’ ” recalls Mahdara, the CEO of beauty industry fest Beautycon. They didn’t hit it off. “We were in two different parts of our lives,” says Rastegar, a writer and film producer. Seven years later that same friend, who had briefly dated Rastegar in the interim, intervened once more. “She was like, ‘You guys should be together,’ ” Mahdara says. It was true. “You have all these ideas of who you want to be with,” she says. “Most of the time, the best person for you is someone you’ve put into a bucket of ‘no.’ ” The couple are expecting their first child.

“For some strange and magical reason, even though we’re so different, we agree on everything,” supermodel Helena Christensen says of fashion designer and collaborator Camilla Stærk, whom she met at a photo shoot in Denmark in 2000. Stærk agrees: “There are very few people you can spend a lot of time with and never feel like you need some space,” she says. “I always call Helena my girlfriend, but then people think we’re a couple. It was hard.” (Paul was born in Tanzania; Aasen hails from Norway.) But after bonding over a mutual love of clothing—“I learned how to dress better from her,” Aasen says—the former roommates, who both walked in the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, became each other’s missing piece. “I’m a little more of an introvert, and she’s outgoing,” Aasen says. “It’s really nice to have someone to push me a bit.” Adds Paul: “We help each other. Period.” Jaxyn, who often appears on her dad’s feed, says the lessons are mutual. “The best thing I’ve learned from my dad is to love myself,” she says. “Before I can love anybody else, I have to be proud of myself, learn from my mistakes, and be thankful for all my imperfectness.”

This 'SNL' Hallmark Spoof Is Too Real for Anyone Who Loves Christmas Movies

Sometimes SNL sketches are just too close for comfort—and this sketch, starring James Franco, is one such event.

On Saturday, December, 9, Franco took over hosting duties on the late-night comedy show. The episode of SNL was fine; Franco delivered a few laughs, and an ultra-fit Jonah Hill stole the show. But really, it would have been a far better episode had they kept in this deleted scene that just surfaced on the internet. In the sketch, which was reportedly cut for time, Franco and crew put on a pitch-perfect spoof of every single Hallmark Christmas movie ever made.

“It’s quantity over quality, people, and we are just blasting your ass with these,” Cecily Strong says in a voiceover for the channel’s famous “Countdown to Christmas.” Strong then promos a few films that would definitely make the lineup on the real Hallmark Channel, including Yes, Santa and Prince Santa.

The aforementioned Yes, Santa is about a young woman named Lydia who leaves her gig (presumably in media or advertising—this is a Hallmark movie, after all) in the city to take over her grandmother’s Christmas tree farm. There, she falls in love with her high school boyfriend again, who is (SPOILER ALERT) young Santa, played by “Canadian hot” actor Chris Bearstick (played by James Franco).

As for Prince Santa, you can probably guess what that’s about: an ice skater with amnesia who accidentally marries a prince who’s also Santa. Yup, sounds about right.

As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, if you thought these titles and plots seemed familiar, it’s because they are. In fact, they closely resemble the real Hallmark movies A Christmas Prince, With Love, Christmas, and Switched for Christmas.

Just watch the video, below, and see if you can spot the difference between the spoof and the real thing.
