Yeah, not gonna question its raison d’être. Just be sure to act fast: With these kinds of deals, it’s only a matter of time before much-loved shades sell out. And there are some great products going: Urban Decay’s Lo-Fi Lip Mousse is BOGO (buy one, get one free), NYX’s excellent metallic matte liquid lipstick (one of our faves) is 30% off, and a five-star-rated, buildable Tarte matte lip tint is half off. Elsewhere, Smashbox’s Be Legendary lipsticks are all 40% off, and Estée Lauder’s whole lip line is BOGO, too. Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint Replaced All My Favorite Lipsticks

Despite my well-documented love of frequent snacking, there was a time when I rarely bit into a croissant with bare lips when I could have done so wearing two coats of duochrome glitter atop a vibrant crimson red. This is a great litmus test for the staying power of any given product, but also, I just have a thing for color. At my old office my desk was littered with piles of lipstick in every formula imaginable. Instead of a drawer full of office supplies, I had a drawer full of rotating lip options (as well as a drawer full of snacks for testing out their wear time). I needed my mattes, my semimattes, my cream-finish hues, my high-shine lacquers, and a stain or two. My rules used to be simple: I had very little patience for any shade that was supposed to be undetectable. I preferred something you could spot from a mile away—bonus points if it was the deepest version possible of plum, oxblood, or navy blue.

It feels strange to say this, but I have now abandoned all of the above. Over the last few months, I’ve effectively replaced my once overflowing drawer with a single product. In an unexpected turn of events, it’s precisely the kind of undetectable color that I used to pick up, point at, and ask, “Why do you exist?”

It began with a nondescript black-and-white tube from Bobbi Brown that I mistook for a regular lip balm. My lips get chapped from swatching multiple formulas per day—occupational hazard—so I thought I would take a half-hour break and let them chill out with some moisturizer. Turns out, what I actually picked up was the brand’s cult favorite Extra Lip Tint, a featherweight formula that comes in seven shades. The one I use is called Bare Pink, and in the tube, it’s the La Croix of lipsticks, possessing only an echo of color from far away, the kind of pink so translucent you just assume it will go on colorless. This is not the case.

While Bobbi Brown doesn’t bill it as such, Bare Pink is the perfected version of those beloved nineties mood glosses. Naturally, I used to own several of those, each promising to work some pH-based sorcery to go from crystal-clear to your “perfect” shade. As my perfect shade is not a skin-clashing iteration of clown pink, that magic trick never really worked out for me. But Bobbi Brown’s version is different. Once it settles onto your lips, it transforms them with just the right amount of brightness and warmth. It’s not even pink so much as it is a suggestion of the shade, like you happen to have a bit more blood circulating below the delicate skin and suddenly your whole face looks better and more awake too. Because it’s subtle, I don’t even need a mirror to apply. One mindless swipe has me covered for the next few hours; it’s so faint that it doesn’t even leave a noticeable imprint on coffee cups.

I wear it with everything from a bare face to a full-on smoky eye. It’s not just the color that’s perfect; the balm also pulls double duty to provide instant relief when my lips are feeling dry (as it is currently winter, this means all the time). It contains a powerhouse combination of olive, avocado, and jojoba oils to nourish and soften—this makes for a finish that’s not waxy in the slightest and melts into skin instantly. Oh, and have I mentioned that this is the first plumping product I haven’t hated? Instead of using mild irritants to create an unpleasant reaction, the balm uses its oil-packed formula to great effect. It sort of seeps into my tiny lip lines, filling them in and smoothing them over. (Think of the visual effect of your favorite clear gloss, but imagine if you couldn’t even feel it on your lips.) My mouth looks instantly plumper, and I don’t feel like I’ve just experienced an allergic reaction, which is definitely the way I prefer things.

6 Women Try Maybelline's New 'Universally Flattering' Lipsticks

Call it the Fenty Effect, but diversity is finally no longer just a buzzword, but something brands are starting to take seriously as a philosophy. Maybelline has been raising the bar in the drugstore sphere when it comes to shade range. Last year the brand doubled its beloved Fit Me Complexion line from 16 to 32 shades. Now, Maybelline is moving beyond foundation and tackling inclusion when it comes to a different category: lipstick.

The brand has just launched the Color Sensational Made For All Lipsticks, a collection of seven shades specially created to complement all skin tones. According to the brand, the lipsticks were tested on 50 women across the skin tone spectrum to ensure they flatter every single complexion. That’s no small feat. Think about every time you’ve loved a color on a friend, only for it to look awful on you.

Generally, so-called “universally flattering” products fall into two camps: Sheer rosy-pink tones (think NARS Orgasm or Diorglow) or “nudes” that flatter only a handful of skin tones. Maybelline said “F that,” and gave us a full range of pigmented lipsticks in a mix of matte and satin finishes, including a killer ’90s brown, peppy fuchsia, and classic red.

The premise of this line especially makes sense at a drugstore price point, where there’s usually no way to test makeup before buying it. Maybelline is so sure that you’ll love every shade in the line that it’s offering a money back guarantee on every purchase. That’s what I call that putting money where your mouth is.

Still, seeing is believing, so we challenged Glamour staffers to put the whole range to the test. Read on to see their favorites from the line.

The Best Blue Lipsticks and What They Look Like On

A few years ago, I wouldn’t have gotten close to navy lipstick with a ten-foot pole. I was barely comfortable wearing bright red lipstick outside, let alone a blue lipstick color so dark, it gives black a run for its Hot Topic money. The market wasn’t really there, either: it existed in a few all-encompassing brands’ ranges, but options were few and far between.

But as we’ve slowly begun shaking loose the knot of appearance and identity, no longer do these formerly unconventional lipstick shades feel reserved for only moody teenagers. So we’ve seen navy lipstick follow in black’s tracks, with beautiful blue formulas making their way onto shelves from a range of brands. CoverGirl, Tom Ford, Bite Beauty—they’ve all got options. These shades take a little guts to wear, but Glamour‘s editors can attest, welcoming blackberry lip color into your life pays off in the extreme. Hey, if it’s good enough for Prudence Night

Best Black Lipsticks You Can Wear All Year

When you think of black lipstick, an old Halloween costume might come to mind, or maybe that goth phase you went through in middle school. But when I think of black lipstick, I think of Rihanna.

The specific image of RiRi that comes to mind is one that showed up on my Instagram feed uninvited (which is my way of making a joke since that’s the name of the black Fenty lipstick shade she was wearing). She looked cool, modern, and not particularly witchy, and it got me thinking about how I’d look in black lipstick.

Other celebrities like Slick Woods, Kylie, Beyoncé, Hailey Baldwin, and Joan Smalls have also worn an ultra-dark lip casuall,y and it’s looked surprisingly right-now on them too, regardless of skin tone.

To make the case for black lipstick as a potential everyday look, I asked a few editors at the Glamour office to try out different brands, shades, formulas, and price points to see what they thought. Turns out, wearing a black lip doesn’t mean you’ll get unsolicited directions to the nearest Hot Topic.

See below for the best black lipsticks and how to realistically incorporate them into your routine on days that aren’t October 31.

Camila Coelho Chats Lancôme Lipsticks, Brazilian Beauty, and More

There are influencers and there’s Camila Coelho. The Brazilian makeup artist turned social media star has enough followers on Instagram alone to populate her own small country. (That would be a cool 7.4 million, by the way.) But before she became famous for her jet-setting style and flawlessly painted-on lips, Coelho got her start behind a beauty counter at Macy’s, working her way up from an in-store Dior artist to the upper echelon of digital stardom.

“You’ll never see me without lipstick on,” Coelho tells Glamour. “Even at the gym or the supermarket, I’ll always blot a little color. Lipstick for me is the product and my followers know that.” That’s why it should come as no surprise that when Lancôme was looking to team up on its first-ever influencer collaboration, Coelho and lipstick were a natural fit.

Coelho worked with Lisa Eldridge, Lancôme’s creative director, to create 10 L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks that pay homage to her Brazilian roots and love of a strong lip. To celebrate the launch, which officially lands at Sephora today, we caught up with Coelho to have her answer our Big Beauty Questions—a rapid-fire assortment of things you never knew you wanted to know. Read on, then shop entire collection here.

Glamour: Why is lipstick so important to you?

Camila Coelho: Growing up, lipstick was my thing. It all started when I was six years old; my grandmother gave me a red lipstick to wear for my passport photo. My mom wanted to change it to a light pink so bad, but I kept it. Every time I’d go to visit my grandmother, she always had her hair blow-dried and lipstick on—even if she was just staying home. She’s forever been my inspiration.

Glamour: You travel around the world constantly. What city or country gives you the greatest beauty inspiration?

CC: Every different country I go to gives me a new type of inspiration. For example, when I go to New York, I feel like I can do anything I want—like go all out with a bunch of glitter on my eyes. You can really be yourself and try new things there and no one will bat an eye. In Paris I’m always inspired to be more effortless. I’ll still put makeup on but in a more minimal way. And when I’m in Brazil, I want to be more colorful and tropical.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Middle East—but particularly Dubai—inspires me the most. Women there love to put makeup on and when they go out, they go all out. All I want to do when I’m there is a strong smoky eye and nude lip.

Glamour: What about beauty do you think Brazilians do best?

CC: I always say that Brazilian women have amazing nails. We’re good with hair too, but everyone gets their nails done weekly. It’s a thing in Brazil. It doesn’t matter what they do, what their social looks like, you will always see the women there with a nice nail polish color on. The professionals do an amazing job. If you ever have a chance to go to a Brazilian nail salon, do it.

I’m the type of person who likes to try different shapes. But my go-to is more square. I’ve tried the pointy ones, which in Brazil, women don’t like. They call them “chicken nails.” There, the more classic shapes are popular—either square or round. And then for color, I love nudes and classics like white, black, and navy. This summer I wore a lot of white.

Glamour: What’s one beauty rule you absolutely swear by?

CC: Taking care of your skin first. Because if you don’t, your makeup isn’t going to look as good. You’re going to put stuff on, it’s going to melt, and it’s not going to stay on. It’s a number-one rule for me. I enjoy doing my skin care routine as much as my makeup too. It’s like a spa day. I do around seven steps every night, even when I travel, and it pays off because your skin does change when you take care of it.

Glamour: Your house is burning down! Quick: What three skin care products do you grab?

CC: An eye cream, an acid, and a hydrating serum. I can’t live without eye cream. The area around your eye is so sensitive, and if you don’t hydrate it, you get wrinkles and those creases with concealer. I also put eye cream on my lips, because the skin there is also very thin and needs hydration. As for acids, I love glycolic. I use the Neostrata Gel every other day. It helps so much with your pores, and I don’t really get any breakouts anymore. And then a hydrating serum is a must. Between traveling and always being on planes, I need it.

Glamour: What’s your go-to getting ready music?

CC: Oh my gosh, if you saw my playlist, you would die. I have everything from Brazilian country to Rihanna and Beyoncé. I like everything. Maroon 5! The only exception is really deep rock. When I’m getting ready for something big though, I’ll do more dancing songs. Beyoncé’s new album is amazing. And I’m obsessed with Cardi B.

Glamour: Your hair is gorgeous. What do you to keep it in such great shape?

CC: As a Brazilian, I have a lot of hair that’s really fine and thin. But when I moved from Brazil to Boston, I think it was a difference in the water that caused my hair to stop growing. It was becoming dehydrated, so I had to start doing a lot of deep conditioning masks. So every other day—whenever I wash my hair—I’ll do a mask. And about once a month, I’ll get a hydrating treatment at the salon. Your hair really is just like your skin. Hydration will keep it shiny and healthy.

Glamour: What is your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?

CC: Disconnecting from social media and spending time with loved ones. The time I actually feel most on vacation is when I’m home. Even if it’s just taking five hours away from my phone and not worrying about needing to post, it makes a difference.

Glamour: Screw, marry, kill: mascara, lipstick, highlighter.

CC: Oh, well, marry lipstick of course. I have to. Screw…what does that mean? Just a fling with it? I’d have to say highlighter. It makes you have amazing skin—in photos, especially. And I’ll kill mascara. It’s fine. Maybe it’s because I have naturally good lashes. But I feel like if you have a lip and good skin, you don’t need anything on your eyes.

Glamour: What’s the last Instagram rabbit hole you went down?

CC: It has literally nothing to do with what I do, but I’m really into animal videos. I’ll stay on them for hours. I’ll watch dogs, tigers—I’m obsessed with tigers. I’ll look for hashtags about cute animals or nature. Even my husband, who loves animals, is like, OK, enough.

Glamour: What’s your favorite emoji?

CC: Ha! Obviously, the lips. They’re even on the bullet of my lipsticks.

Glamour: You’ve got $20 and free roam of a drugstore. What do you buy?

CC: I’ll buy makeup remover wipes. Mascara, because it’s cheap. Oh, I can get a Snickers bar! I can’t go in a drugstore and not buy a Snickers.

Glamour: If you could change one thing about beauty perceptions on social media, what would that be?

CC: A lot of people looking at social media think everyone is perfect. We’re not. There are filters and apps that make you look better. Everything is in good light. Social media can make you forget that. It gets to you.
