Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Went Full-on 'Lion King' With Their Wearable Art Gala Looks

Disney is taking its 1994 classic The Lion King and updating it into a computer-animated musical that’s dropping this summer. Messing with a beloved film is risky, but we’ve felt good about this one ever since news emerged that Beyoncé would be voicing Nala. Now, it’s clear that she’s really taking her role to heart: At the Wearable Art Gala hosted by her mother Tina Lawson in Santa Monica this weekend, Bey channeled her character in the most impressive way.

Queen Bey showed up to the event in a glistening gold Georges Hobeika-designed bodysuit that had a lion’s face proudly sewn on the front. Because she never does anything halfway, she added feathers for the lion’s mane, tons of sequins, and a stunning draped cape. Of course, her hair and make-up were styled to go with the regal look.

A few photos she posted on Instagram (keep swiping through!) also show the adorable outfit and headdress that her mini-me Blue Ivy chose for the occasion. In a video clip Bey posted, you can even see Blue Ivy singing along to “The Circle of Life,” showing that pretty much the entire family is getting into Beyoncé’s part in the new film.

The Wearable Art Gala is an event put together by Where Art Can Occur (WACO), an organization that Lawson and her husband started a few years ago. The gala is in its third year, and the 2019 theme was “A Journey to the Pride Lands”—which means Bey pretty much nailed it. She was joined at the celebration by former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

The film is slated to come out on July 19, 25 years after the original was released. In addition to Beyoncé, the cast is incredible: Donald Glover is playing Simba, and James Earl Jones is reprising his role as Mufasa. We seriously can’t wait to hear what Glover and Bey do with the movie’s signature song, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

Lady Gaga Went Full-On Shakespeare in Alexander McQueen at the London Premiere of *A Star Is Born*

I feel it’s imperative you all know what Lady Gaga is wearing to attend the London premiere of A Star Is Born tonight.

The pop singer-slash-actress-slash-meat dress connoisseur wore an Alexander McQueen gown—not just any gown, but a ruffled, gilded one from the brand’s Fall 2013 collection that’s giving off major Shakespearean vibes. A midsummer-but-really-early-fall night’s dream, indeed! We know Mother Monster loves a theme: She channeled a fifties Italian actress at the Venice Film Festival earlier this summer, wore a patriotic get-up to sing the national anthem in 2016, and now looks like the chicest extra in a U.K. Shakespearean production ever. And look at how she’s posing, almost as if she’s saying, “Look at my ruffles! I’m a Thespian!” (And she is! She’s a favorite to win Best Actress on GoldDerby.com!)

Shakespeare Gaga might be the best Gaga ever. (Yes, even better than phone-on-her-head Gaga or Beyoncé Gaga or Muppets Gaga. You see, Shakespeare Gaga isn’t here to play games—she’s here to pose, talk about how much Bradley Cooper can sing, and snag all your Oscar votes. Behold…

Taylor Swift Goes Full-On 'Mad Men' in the Dramatic Video for 'Babe'

Taylor Swift has been reinventing herself over the years, and she’s done it once again in Sugarland’s music video for “Babe,” which dropped on Saturday night. The announcement, fittingly, was marked by a plethora of martini-glass emojis, which gave us a hint about the Mad Men-inspired goodness heading our way.

A quick backstory: Swift wrote “Babe” and then offered it to Sugarland for their new album, Bigger. However, she appears as a featured artist on the track, and she also has a starring role in the video. In it, she gives off serious Joan Holloway vibes (remember Joan? Joan was the best), from the red hair to the bright color-blocked outfit and brooch.

She plays the secretary to a ’60s-era businessman—and the two start an affair behind the back of the businessman’s wife, played by Sugarland frontwoman Jennifer Nettles.

But the affair doesn’t stay hidden for long: Nettles’ character literally catches her husband and the redheaded Secretary Swift kissing and, like, intensely staring at each other in his office. Naturally, more dramatics ensue.

Transport back in time and check out the video for yourself, below:

“Babe” marks Swift’s first foray into country music since 2012’s Red album, and the song is polar opposite to the poppy, Max Martin-produced fare on her Reputation album. Of course, Swift’s later work is fantastic, but there’s something comforting and exciting about hearing her go country again. Songwriting is arguably Swift’s greatest talent, and songs like “Babe” place the lyrics up front and center.

Swift is currently on her Reputation tour, so fingers crossed she brings out Sugarland during one of her shows, and they perform”Babe” live together. (Obviously, Swift would have to wear the red wig.)
