Justin Bieber Admits He Was ‘Reckless’ While Dating Selena Gomez

Justin Bieber sat down for an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe this week and shared an intimate peek inside his relationship with wife Hailey Bieber, who inspired many of the songs on his new album Changes. According to Justin, Hailey has helped him grow over the last few years—though he admits it took him a while to get to a place where he could commit. He also alluded to his time with his ex Selena Gomez, sharing that he knew he needed to work through issues from his “previous relationship” before he married Hailey.

“I think I was just hurt from my previous relationship,” he explains. “I think I still was dealing with a lot of unforgiveness and all that sort of stuff. To be honest, I don’t even think I knew what I was struggling with at the time.”

The couple dated on and off, and during the breaks, Justin says, he would try to work on bettering himself. “In my previous relationship, I went off and just went crazy and went wild, just was being reckless,” he said, referring to his past with Gomez. “This time, I took the time to really build myself and focus on me, and try to make the right decisions and all that sort of stuff. And yeah, I got better.”

As for Gomez, she’s laid out her feelings about her breakup with Justin on her album, Rare, and said she experienced emotional abuse. “It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse,” she said in an interview with NPR.

When the interviewer asked her if she meant “emotional abuse,” Gomez replied, “Yes, and I think that it’s something that—I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.”

Bieber has also admitted he “abused” his previous relationships in an Instagram post from September, in which he wrote, “I became resentful, disrespectful to women and angry.” However, while speaking to Lowe, he cited Hailey as a huge reason he’s been able to reconcile with his past and move forward.

“It’s been a big reason to why I’m coming back and I’m successful at this,” he said. “I think she is definitely the reason. There’d be no story without her, she just ties it all together. I mean, she giving me substance to talk about… She’s the person that I’m learning to love unconditionally and start a family with.”

What Selena Gomez Just Said About Princess Diana Will Warm Your Heart

Selena Gomez revealed many tidbits about her music and life in her new interview with Dazed (see the stunning cover, below). But one of the most interesting soundbites the singer-actor gave is that she’s a massive Princess Diana fan.

Dazed had several influential people send Gomez questions for the interview—including photographer Brianna Capozzi, who asked, “Who would you like to be stuck in a lift with?” The Rare singer said Princess Diana, and her reasoning was poignant and sweet.

Princess Diana. She was such a warrior,” Gomez said. “I love everything she did. There’s this interview I will never forget where she is like, ‘I just want to be the queen of people’s hearts.’ You know, she didn’t necessarily care for all of the rules that [were imposed on her].”

Writer Emily Segal chimed in after Gomez’s response, saying she loves all the stories about how Princess Diana reportedly used to go to gay clubs in drag with her friends. To that, Gomez said, “Yeah, like, come on! She is so…. Ugh! I can’t believe it. I just wish she was here.”

Selena Gomez can no doubt relate, on some level, to the media scrutiny Princess Diana endured when she was alive. Selena says her music has been instrumental in helping her get through the harder stages of her life.

“I was dealing with fame and with being run-down, dealing with depression, anxiety and other mental health issues that I had,” she told Dazed. “It was all a bit confusing. When [my 2019 song] ‘Lose You to Love Me’ came out, I stood back and had this moment, like, ‘Oh…this is a huge reason why I’ve pushed myself through this. This is why.’ I was able to release a song that hopefully helps to heal some people, or just lets them know they are not alone. I was actually letting it go personally and when that happened, something inside of me just left. And that’s why I am grateful for the chapters of my life. I’m not saying that it’s gonna be easy from now on, but I have a lot more strength and a lot more courage and a bigger voice to stand up for what I deserve.”

Selena Gomez Is Launching a Beauty Line: Here's Everything We Know

It’s already been quite the year for Selena Gomez, and it’s only February. Hot off the heels of her most recent album, Rare, which came out in January, it’s just been revealed that the singer and actor is launching a beauty line of the same name. On Tuesday, February 4, Gomez posted a video to her Instagram page announcing the new venture: “Guys, I’ve been working on this special project for two years and can officially say Rare Beauty is launching in @sephora stores in North America this summer! Follow @rarebeauty and become part of our beautiful community. Here’s a tiny sneak. There’s more to share AND I can’t wait,” she shared in the caption.

Although she’s had some killer makeup moments in the past, Gomez tends to keep it low-key when it comes to beauty, so it will be interesting to see the direction the line goes in. She didn’t share tons of details, but here’s everything we know about the line so far.

The name: The line is called Rare Beauty, which mirrors the name of Gomez’s recent album. She’s referred to the album as her diary from the past few years, and many of the lyrics are speculated to be about her relationship with Justin Bieber.

The release date: There’s no exact launch date yet, but per Gomez’s video, the line will be available summer 2020.

Where to shop: Good news: You’ll be able to pick up Rare Beauty at Sephora with all your other beauty essentials.

The mission: Judging from Selena Gomez’s voice-over in the video, the brand is all about embracing inner beauty. “Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” she says in the clip, which you can watch above. “I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me. I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand. I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and start embracing our uniqueness. You’re not defined by a photo, a like, or a comment. Rare Beauty isn’t about how other people see you. It’s about how you see yourself.”

Selena Gomez Just Got a New Tattoo—and It Has a Very Sentimental Meaning

Selena Gomez has been busy lately. She’s been on a major promotional tour for both her album, Rare, and her role voicing a giraffe in the new Robert Downey Jr. movie, Dolittle.

But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been able to take some time for herself for activities like…getting a new tattoo. The singer/actor posted a video to Instagram revealing her new ink: the word “rare” written in script on the side of her neck. “Did it again @bangbangnyc ? rare,” she wrote in the caption. Rare, of course, is the name of Gomez’s new album which dropped on January 10, and will also be the next single to be released.

Selena Gomez’s third studio album (and first since 2015’s Revival) features a number of lyrics fans think are references to her high-profile relationship (and breakups) with Justin Bieber, though she has not said as much directly. She has opened up, however, about how personal this project is to her. “I’ve said this before, but I used to be terrified of saying anything. I would find myself protecting people that never protected me or cared for me,” Gomez told Billboard. “And I wouldn’t want to say the wrong thing, and I wouldn’t want people to think that I had any other motive, other than just being a kind person—though that is who I am and I am proud of that. I was just done, you know? Just done being silent, and I felt like I deserved to have a moment for myself, after going through so much, and throwing that all into this album. It wasn’t even a thought in my mind that I was doing the wrong thing.”

She also said she’s in “happiest place I’ve ever been in my life” so perhaps she wanted to mark the occasion permanently, as she’s done in the past. Gomez also recently revealed the tattoo on her arm was in commemoration of her kidney transplant.

Selena Gomez Unveils Tattoo Commemorating Her Kidney Transplant Surgery

Selena Gomez continues to be an inspiration when it comes to significant tattoos, and her latest ink adventure is no exception.

Upon the release of her new album Rare, the singer shared some BTS pics from the title track’s music video. In one shot, you can make out a series of numbers on the back of the singer-songwriter’s upper right arm, seemingly signifying a date in June 2017. As noted by Page Six, the tat represents the date that Gomez had kidney transplant surgery in order to treat the lupus that she was battling at the time.

In a December 2019 interview with Capital FM, the singer confirmed the meaning behind her arm tattoo, revealing that she got the ink along with her good friend, Francia Raisa, who served as the kidney donor for her surgery.

Gomez and Raisa have been open about the process of undergoing surgery together, with both stars speaking candidly about the challenges and ultimate positive outcome of the experience. “I just really hope that we can help somebody,” the 27-year-old said in an October 2017 Today interview. “I don’t think what we went through was easy, I don’t think it was fun. I just hope this inspires people to feel good and to know that there are really good people in the world.”

Given that, it makes sense for Gomez and Francia to want to commemorate their surgery in a permanent way—especially since the singer has a host of other significant tats. She has matching “#1” tattoos with BFF Courtney Barry, along with coordinating arrows with bestie and collaborator, Julia Michaels. She even has matching semicolon tattoos with some of the 13 Reasons Why cast members as a nod to Project Semicolon, an organization dedicated to the prevention of suicide.

Selena Gomez Says Getting on ‘the Right Medication’ Changed Her Life

Selena Gomez is getting ready to drop her highly anticipated album, Rare, this week, and ahead of its big release, she’s opening up about some of the extremely personal lessons she learned while making the record. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal magazine this week, Gomez got candid about her struggles with self-esteem and mental health, and shared that learning more about treatment and getting on the right medication “completely changed” her life.

Gomez has spoken about mental health and therapy in the past, and she took time off in 2018 to check herself into a psychiatric facility in Tennessee. She re-entered public life this year, slowly sharing new music and moments from the last couple of months on social media. She told the WSJ that she’s continued to seek treatment and to work on her health.

“I had low self-esteem, and that’s something I work on continuously. But I feel so empowered because I’ve gained so much knowledge about what was going on mentally,” she said. “My highs were really high, and my lows would take me out for weeks at a time.”

She added that it’s been through the right medication and through support systems that she’s been able to take care of herself. “I found out I do suffer from mental health issues. And, honestly, that was such a relief,” she continued. “I realized that there was a way to get help and to find people that you trust. I got on the right medication, and my life has been completely changed.”

One of the people she’s consistently counted on during difficult times is Taylor Swift, she says. “There’s so much of my friendship with Taylor that people don’t know about because we don’t necessarily feel the need to post about everything we do,” she said. “She has showed up for me in ways that I would have never expected. Flown in because I was hurt and was going through something. Stuff that was going on with my family. It’s been proven year after year and in every moment of my life that she is one of my best friends in the world. We don’t agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.”

Selena Gomez’s third studio album, Rare, drops this Friday, January 10.
