The Best Hair Colors for Fall 2019

Fall’s new hair colors are like the changing leaves; you can always count on a new crop to emerge every season. Lately, we’re seeing colorists get extra innovative with fresh techniques and head-turning updates on familiar colors. It’s not always the shades themselves that catch our attention first, though. The names too have become increasingly, well, thirsty.

Late summer brought us “cold brew hair“—as in the multi-hued shade of brown you get when you pour milk into your coffee—while “root beer hair” and “espresso brunette” were the front-runners for 2018. Even “Lacroix hair” bubbled its way up into our hair-color lexicon.

It’s a recipe we’ve seen time and time again. Name a hair color after a dessert or drink, and suddenly blonde balayage becomes the much more appealing-sounding (or absurd, depending on your taste) “blonde roast hair.” But after careful inspection, we believe it’s not all social media gimmick. As ridiculous as it might seem to sit in your colorists chair and request “s’mores hair,” these names serve to call out some subtle tricks and innovative techniques you might otherwise miss. While “dark roast hair” and “cold-brew color” might just look like brunette to some, there’s more nuance than you might think at first glance. Here, we’re bringing you the best of these colors for fall, with options for every shade of blonde, brunette, redhead, and everything in between. Order up.

Fall 2019 Fashion Week Trend: Fleece Jackets

The nostalgic, cozy allure of gorpcore had a moment at Fashion Week. Blame it on the winter or on how brands like 3.1 Phillip Lim and Coach are starting to embrace fleece in their collections—either way, we’re all (much warmer, much cozier) winners here.

These new versions of the outdoorsy staple feature cool, graphic details like statement zippers and color-blocking, which lend themselves to being worn with jeans or over a pleated skirt. Fleece jackets are easy enough to throw on, and they’re all you want to wear in the middle of winter. Brands are just making it that much more exciting to reach for your favorite layer. Layer it underneath your heavy coats now, or wear it on its own in the spring and fall. Here are 21 fleeces to fall in love with now.
