At the beginning of our interview, Chrissy Teigen asks if I can hold on for a second.
“Luna is drinking pure strawberry vinaigrette, as a beverage,” she says.
Such is life for the 33-year-old model turned best-selling cookbook author, turned TV personality, turned everyone’s best-friend-in-their-head. She juggles many roles, but take one look at her Instagram lately, and it’s clear that being a mom—and a very cool one at that—is the job she loves most.
But how has motherhood affected her everyday fashion choices?
“Oh my God, I just recently decided I’m no longer wearing things that I have to put over my head,” Teigen tells Glamour. “If I can’t step into it, I don’t wear it anymore. Stretching my arms above my head to put something on or anything crazy fitted that only has a zipper on the side, I’m like, ‘No, no, no.’ I will tailor things to add extra zippers.”
In short, comfort isn’t just key—it’s sort of, well, the only key. That leaves a lot of room to play with accessories, which she loves. “I can wear the most basic stuff, and just put on a good pair of sunglasses, a cute hat, and some hoop earrings,” she says. “Once every year I go into this mood where I’ll go online, I’ll be on Free People or whatever, and I’m like, ‘This is going to be me now!,’” Teigen says. When it comes to colors, her aesthetic is pretty minimal. (She says “loves patterns,” but mostly in theory—since “then [what you ordered] comes and you’re like, ‘What the—oh my God, this is crazy.’”) Her go-to styling combo for the fall? “I love an effortless, easy wrap dress [with] a scrunchy suede boot.”
First there was seashell jewelry. Then there were pearl hair clips—and, of course, what was probably the most photographed headband of all time.
