Amy Adams Defended Her 'Sharp Objects' Stand-In After She Sensed the Woman Was Being Mistreated

If you liked Big Little Lies last year, there’s a good chance you’ll also enjoy HBO’s upcoming miniseries Sharp Objects. Starring Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson, the Southern gothic–esque thriller revolves around a reporter (Adams), fresh from a stay at a mental hospital, who returns home to her small Mississippi town to investigate the murder of two girls. Her socialite mother (Clarkson) is also there, and a perfect storm of intrigue, family drama, and terror ensues.

Adams, who is also an executive producer on the series, spoke to THR about her emotionally draining yet fulfilling role—one that encouraged her to return to television for the first time in 10 years. During the chat, Adams also talked about when she realized her stand-in, a woman identified only as Reb, was possibly being mistreated during the production.

“[Reb] was fantastic, and she also put up with a lot ’cause she wasn’t getting the sort of catharsis from the performance and she wasn’t treated the same way I’m treated,” Adams told THR, noting how Reb had to be covered in fake scars for many scenes. “And I’ve never experienced this before but, because we looked so much alike, at one point somebody grabbed me really hard and pulled me. I went, ‘What’s going on?’ And they’re like ‘(Gasp) You’re not Reb!’ I went into producer [mode] and I was like, ‘You will not handle her like that.'”

Marti Noxon, who created and cowrote the series — based on Gillian Flynn’s original novel — confirmed Adams’ account, and hopes her honesty will change on-set culture going forward. “Well, it’s a true story. And [it happens] all the time,” she explained. “And she wouldn’t have said a word, by the way, and that’s the other part that’s [changing] through women being more a part of the engine. But I learned a lot on this show about how I want to do it in the future.”

The first of Sharp Objects‘ eight parts will debut on July 8.

Lena Dunham Defended a 'Girls' Writer Accused of Raping a 17-Year-Old Girl

Actress Aurora Perrineau has filed a police report accusing Girls writer and producer Murray Miller of raping her in 2012, when she was 17 years old, according to a report by The Wrap published on Friday. After the news broke, Girls co-showrunners Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner released a statement defending Miller, explaining that they believe Perrineau’s allegations are false.

According to Miller’s attorney Don Walerstein, Perrineau’s lawyers contacted Miller several weeks ago asking for monetary damages for the alleged assault—something Perrineau’s mother denies. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Walerstein released a statement saying, “Mr. Miller categorically and vehemently denies Ms. Perrineau’s outrageous claims,” adding that Miller’s legal team has “overwhelming evidence directly contradicting these false and offensive claims.”

On Friday night, Denham and Konner sent a statement to The Hollywood Reporter denying Perrineau’s claims and saying they stand with Miller:

“During the windfall of deeply necessary accusations over the last few months in Hollywood, we have been thrilled to see so many women’s voices heard and dark experiences in this industry justified. It’s a hugely important time of change and, like every feminist in Hollywood and beyond, we celebrate. But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year. It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue.”

Dunham also tweeted what seems to be an indirect message of support for Murray, saying, “I believe in a lot of things but the first tenet of my politics is to hold up the people who have held me up, who have filled my world with love.”

The Girls creator has received quite a bit of backlash since releasing her statement. People are accusing her of hypocrisy, citing a tweet from August in which she stated, “Things women do lie about: what they ate for lunch. Things women don’t lie about: rape.”

According to Walerstein, “Mr. Miller looks forward to sharing all evidence and information with any and all authorities seeking the truth in this matter.”

Perrineau told The Wrap she’s unable to comment further about the alleged assault while the LAPD investigates.

Bella Hadid Defended a Female Photographer Who Was Allegedly Pushed by Her Bodyguard

Bella Hadid is one of the most famous women on earth right now, so it makes sense she’s got intense security everywhere she goes—and her crew of large men at New York Fashion Week is no exception. After her sister Gigi’s assault at Milan Fashion Week last year—if you forgot, a strange man literally picked her up outside a show—we don’t blame her for having such beefy detail.

But when one of Hadid’s bodyguards allegedly shoved a female photographer snapping pics of her Wednesday morning, she wasn’t pleased. Background: TMZ caught the 20-year-old leaving the Michael Kors fashion show with several bodyguards in tow. The scene is total chaos, and at one point it seems like a bodyguard pushes a female paparazzo out of the way to make room for Hadid.

“Do not! Can you please? Don’t touch her,” Hadid tells the bodyguard, who claims that he didn’t push the photographer.

“Are you OK?” you can hear Hadid ask the female photographer before telling her bodyguard again, “Don’t touch her.”

This incident is certainly reminiscent of the Gigi assault we mentioned earlier. After that happened, Gigi took to Twitter to defend herself against the person who lifted her. “I’m a HUMAN BEING and had EVERY RIGHT to defend myself. How dare that idiot thinks he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho,” she wrote.

Hadid hasn’t commented on what happened between her bodyguard and the photographer yet, but stay tuned.
