Chrissy Teigen Celebrated Her Mom Becoming a U.S. Citizen With the Cutest Video

Chrissy Teigen‘s mom, Vilailuck Teigen—known affectionately as “Yāy” to Teigen’s online fans—is officially a U.S. citizen.

Teigen took to Twitter on Tuesday evening to share a video of her mom, who’s originally from Thailand, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. In the clip, Vilailuck can be seen holding her two-year-old granddaughter, Luna, who’s waving an American flag in honor of her grandmother’s accomplishment. “YES MOM!! Congrats @pepperthai2!!” the cookbook author captioned the post. John Legend also celebrated his mother-in-law’s big day, sharing the video to his own feed and adding, “@Pepperthai2 became a US citizen today! 100% on her test!”

The congratulatory comments flowed in. “I got my citizenship last year, congrats to your mom!!!!” wrote one Twitter user. “That is really, really beautiful. Congratulations!!! I’m told that test is quite hard and that anyone born here would probably fail it so good on ya!! To hold your beautiful granddaughter while being sworn in is divine. Blessings!” added another.

Vilailuck lives with Teigen and Legend in Los Angeles, and is a constant fixture on her daughter’s feed. She also has her own iconic Instagram account—@pepperthai2—and has become an IG legend (pun very much intended) in her own right. She’s a doting grandmother and recipe whiz, and was one of the first guests on Luna’s hilarious YouTube channel.

Chrissy opened up to PopSugar earlier this year about the joys of having her mom live with her, and it’s safe to say that it sounds like the Teigen-Legend household is a nonstop, love-filled party thanks to Vilailuck’s constant presence.”It’s so helpful to have her live with us. She’s the most incredible grandma. Luna is so close with her. ‘Yāy’ means grandmother in Thai, so she goes ‘Yāy!’ all day long, and it’s just fun because my mom is a kid at heart. She just has so much energy, and I just lug myself at this point,” she said. “She somehow manages to squeeze Luna in and make her a priority. It’s crazy. There’s nothing wrong with having too much love. Luna has a lot of love around her.”

Demi Lovato Is Now a Mental Health Ambassador for Global Citizen

Demi Lovato is a vocal crusader for a number of important causes: body positivity, self-esteem, and her sobriety (going on six years!), among others. But one thing she’s been extra passionate about is mental health. She told Glamour last year that she considers speaking out about mental illness and addiction is her “true purpose,” and been active and visible in leading reform for it. Case in point: she’s partial owner of a rehab facility she once went to for treatment, led a series of wellness conferences, started a program that helps people who can’t afford treatment get it, and shown up at Congress to lobby for mental health reform.

Now, Lovato’s continuing her work on an even larger scale: she’s the mental health ambassador for Global Citizen, the “social action platform” that uses Twitter, Instagram, and other social media as a road for social change.

She announced the news on her Instagram on Sunday afternoon—and according to the caption, the first thing on her agenda seems to be a pilot program with Save the Children in Iraq.

According to the second Insta in the slideshow, Lovato will be taking Save the Children’s HEART program—which focuses on healing, psychological support, and “basic education through the arts”—to kids who have been displaced in the Middle Eastern country. “My hope is that this program can bring a bit of comfort to those who need the most,” she wrote. “This isn’t about politics or race or religion. It’s simply about humanity and protecting one another.”

Such a cool cause—and what a perfect champion for it.
