Serena Williams Celebrates Two-Year Wedding Anniversary to Alexis Ohanian With Sweet Instagram Posts


It’s been two years since Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian tied the knot in a gorgeous New Orleans wedding attended by everyone from Kim Kardashian to Beyoncé. This week, they celebrated their anniversary with a bunch of super sweet, gushy Instagram posts that illustrated how tight-knit their bond is. But they also added one very unexpected and relatable twist to the festivities: They took a trip to Popeyes to try the highly-coveted new chicken sandwich, solidifying their place as one of our favorite couples ever.

Williams uploaded a cute, never-before-seen shot of the two of them on their wedding day, writing, “2 years and counting…. @alexisohanian is still putting putting up with me.” Later, she added a photo slideshow that chronicles their moments dating and becoming parents together, setting it to music and writing in the caption, “2 years and counting happy anniversary my love.”

But it was on her Instagram stories that Williams revealed their fast-food anniversary journey. “I did not want to try it,” she joked in one slide. “But it’s my anniversary … This is a no judgement me zone.” She then shared a video of Ohanian walking toward her car with a bag of Popeyes in his hand, explaining to her that the chain had the sandwich but they had run out of pickles. The next few clips features Williams saying, “Oh my God,” as she enjoyed the sandwich. Ohanian asks her how it is a few times before Williams finally cracks, “Have I known life before this day?” This is pretty much the wedding anniversary of our dreams.

Ohanian also celebrated their big day on social media by sharing a photo of the couple posing near a decorated swing. “Celebrating 2 years with my ride or die @serenawilliams ? always ready for the next black tie event … Or Netflix & Chill night in,” he captioned the image.

The Reddit co-founder previously wrote about the success of their marriage for Glamour, explaining that for him, the most important lesson is that “you have to show up” for the person that you love. Pretty sure it makes things even better when you show up—and bring a Popeyes sandwich with you.

Model Aaron Philip Celebrates Red Lipstick and Her Disability


The process of applying lipstick often requires little more than muscle memory. Some outline their lips for precision. Others do a casual swipe and blot. It’s a routine one could easily take for granted, but Aaron Philip doesn’t. The Antigua-born 18-year-old is now based in New York, where she’s broken boundaries as the first black, transgender model with a disability to be signed by a major agency (Elite Model Management). Her meteoric rise over the last several months has seen her grace the cover of Paper magazine, land her first New York Fashion Week show, and graduate high school in June. The model, who was born with cerebral palsy, has also made a point to apply her own lipstick along the way. And through the seemingly commonplace task, she has found new ownership over her identity. This is her story, as told to writer Gina Marinelli.

I’d never gotten into makeup until this past year, when I started experimenting with my look. I didn’t care for it much because I wasn’t comfortable enough with myself to do so. As a person with a disability, I had no idea what I would be in for or what I was doing. And as someone with intercepting identities, I had to look inward and find where I would be comfortable with makeup. This past Fashion Week back in February, I had an awakening.

I finally felt comfortable enough to revamp my image and—even though femininity and masculinity are a construct—start looking more traditionally feminine. I wanted to resemble Sky Ferreira, Blondie, Courtney Love, and Foxy Brown. I bleached my hair and eyebrows. I also wanted to look like Island ladies because a lot of women tend to wear lipstick in the Caribbean. I combined all the things I love into the way I project myself to the world.

I actually bought my first lipstick weeks before my high school graduation. My ex-paraprofessional went with me to Sephora one day and got me MAC Red Lipstick. It was my graduation gift, and I couldn’t wait to wear it.

June was busy for me because of Pride Month. I was constantly getting my makeup done and spent a month with that lipstick in my bag. When you have others doing your makeup all the time—for events, photoshoots, bookings—you start to take notice. They line my lips before they fill them in, and they keep going over until the color pops. They use a lot of reds and purples, the types of colors that complement my skin tone. I don’t even think they notice that I’m noticing everything.

One day, when I finally had some downtime with my best friend, I tried applying it by myself for the first time. We were in her apartment on the Upper West Side in New York City just having a girls’ day. She pointed out that she had I handheld mirror I could use, so I pulled out my red lipstick.

My disability is physically very spastic. It can be hard to move my muscles in a way that I want to. It’s not fluid or easy to do things like lift up my hand to my mouth. It’s always easier when I’m in front of a mirror. The hardest part is lining my lips because I don’t want to get it all over my face, but I learned how to master that. Then I just fill in my lips and make sure they look even. If you want to make it spicy, you can put a gloss on top.

After that time, I did my lipstick on the way to a party a couple weeks ago. I combined my MAC lipstick with my Marc Jacobs lip gloss for that glossy, lush color. I wanted to share it on social media—my community online, these are my loved ones. I learned how to do something that’s important to me, and I care enough about them to share this part of me.

I don’t get the opportunity to talk that much about disability, but I realize how important it is that I do. When I talk about it, people understand my everyday life. Lipstick is now becoming part of that everyday life. I’m practicing. As a person with a disability, makeup is not easy, but I’m learning how to work my way around it. I’m having fun; it’s not a burden or a problem. I want to celebrate beauty and disability. People with disabilities are often made to not feel beautiful; people think that we can’t do things that make us feel beautiful, but that’s untrue. I hope other people—other women with disabilities, especially—can find some solace in my story. I know it can be hard.

Barack Obama Celebrates 26 Years of Marriage to Michelle Obama With a Sweet Instagram Post


After two children, two terms in the White House (and a whole lot of stuff in between), and two years of political retirement, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are celebrating their 26th wedding anniversary.

On Wednesday, Obama marked the impressive occasion with a loving tribute on Instagram. “Happy Anniversary, @MichelleObama. For 26 years, you’ve been an extraordinary partner, someone who can always make me laugh, and my favorite person to see the world with,” he wrote alongside an artistic photo of his wife staring out the window of an airplane.

Michelle took to Twitter to reply to the post, writing, “Thank you @barackobama for 26+ years of love, trust, and respect – for being a man who always lifts up and honors me and our wonderful girls. Each day I’m with you, I’m reminded of what a treasure you truly are to us all.”

Earlier this year, the former First Lady shared a never-before-seen photo from their 1992 wedding, giving fans some insight into what their big day was really like. “You can’t tell it from this photo, but Barack woke up on our wedding day in October, 1992 with a nasty head cold,” shared in the caption. “Somehow, by the time I met him at the altar, it had miraculously disappeared and we ended up dancing almost all night. Twenty five years later, we’re still having fun, while also doing the hard work to build our partnership and support each other as individuals. I can’t imagine going on this wild ride with anybody else.”

For his 57th birthday on August 4, she posted a photo similar to the one that Obama shared for their anniversary, which showed the former president staring off into a valley alongside the caption, “Happy birthday @BarackObama! The view is always better with you.”

And on this day, last year, she wrote, “Happy 25th anniversary @barackobama. A quarter of a century later, you’re still my best friend & the most extraordinary man I know. I ? you.”

After 26 years together, their love story is truly one for the books. The couple met in Chicago in 1989, and their first date was apparently a very, very good one. “We clicked right away…by the end of the date, it was over…I was sold,” Michelle said of the day-long outing, which included a picnic, long walk, tour of the Art Institute, Baskin-Robbins ice cream, and a movie. After two years, Barack proposed while they were out to dinner celebrating finishing the bar exam.

“And he got me into one of these discussions again, where, you know, he sort of just led me down there and got fired up and it’s like you’ve got blah blah blah blah, and then dessert comes out, the tray comes out, and there’s a ring!” Michelle told The New Yorker.

The rest, as they say, is (literal) history.
