21 Common Style Problems You Can Fix With Double-Stick Tape


If you’ve ever heard a clotheshorse friend talk about the glory of double-stick tape and rolled your eyes just a little, please call them up and apologize pronto. The stuff can work miracles. The basic variety at your local drugstore is good in a pinch, but actual versions marketed for wardrobe use have a bit more sticky power, and have become an essential for celebrity stylists who need to keep everything right, tight, and in place.

“Double-stick tape is the best resource—I love to use it for all sorts of things, like keeping a revealing neckline or a men’s tie in place,” says Cat Pope, who works with Anna Chlumsky. “It really adds that extra level of polish to a look. It’s my go-to for keeping bra straps and low cut tops in place. It’s reliable for when my clients are on TV and moving their arms or gesticulating.”

Most fabrics work well with double-stick tape. But there are some that can be tricky. “I would say velvet or embellished fabrics don’t work well,” says Pope. Nicolas Bru, who styles Sofia Carson and Fergie, wouldn’t recommend using it on wooly or rough fabrics, either. Another factor that might affect how effective your double-stick tape is? Your skin, according to Pope: “Things like lotion or sweat can make it tricky to hold.”

You don’t have to stay within the realm of designated wardrobe tape, either: Pope calls Topstick, which is technically grooming tape meant for hairpieces, the “most sticky and my personal fave.” Chloe Hartstein, who styles Kate McKinnon, Diana Silvers, and Antoni Porowski, agrees: “It comes in different widths, the adhesive is strong but not aggressive on skin, and it’s easily removable. You can stock up on it on Amazon!”

In case you’re still skeptical, we devoted some time to brainstorming every super-use we could think of—plus, asked some of our favorite Hollywood stylists for their best double-stick tape hacks. Check ’em out and then cross your fingers they never actually happen to you.

1. Fake a hem. If you’re in a rush to wear something before you’ve carved out the time to take it to the tailor, use a strip of tape to shorten the length to where you want it.

2. Keep bra straps hidden. Banish peekaboo bra straps by sticking them to your shirt. Apply a piece of tape to the top of your bra strap and then push it into the interior of your shirt’s shoulder or strap.

Billy Bush Writes 'New York Times' Op-Ed Stating the Access Hollywood Tape Is True


Late last night, The New York Times published a new op-ed written by former Access Hollywood host, Billy Bush, titled “Yes, Donald. You Said That.”

Of course, the quotes Bush is referring to are those from the infamous tape in which the now President says:

“I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn’t get there. And she was
married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony
tits and everything. She’s totally changed her look…I better use
some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know, I’m
automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It’s
like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star,
they let you do it. You can do anything…Grab ’em by the pussy. You
can do anything.”

Bush is heard egging Trump on throughout the tape, was summarily fired by NBC, and now he seems to be on a publicity tour to rehab his image—even tweeting, “Well, you asked…” when sharing the Times piece—and frankly, I’ve got no time for it.

Actually, Billy, I don’t think we did. Reports started circulating last week that the President had privately expressed that perhaps the tape was faked, even though at the time he told The Washington Post: “This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago. Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course—not even close. I apologize if anyone was offended.”

Here’s the thing: Anyone who actually thinks that tape isn’t real is never going to be convinced otherwise. We all know there’s a segment of Trump’s base who will side with him, no matter what facts are presented to the contrary. There was not ever any real dispute over the veracity of the tape. We didn’t need Billy Bush to confirm it.

Now, the substance of Bush’s op-ed isn’t all bad, per se. He says that he believes the women who have accused Trump of misconduct. Great. He admits that he was “guilty of sacrificing a bit of ourselves in the name of success.” We all knew that, but OK, I’m glad you can say it out loud now. He writes, “The activist and gender-relations expert Jackson Katz has said that this is not a women’s issue—it’s a men’s issue. That’s a great place to start, and something I have real thoughts about—but it is a story for another day.” True, but what are you waiting for? Probably a book deal.

I’m sure I sound a little cynical, and that’s probably because I am. How can you not be, given how we’ve watched the failing upward of men behaving badly so many times? This happened and Trump became the President of the United States. Yeah, I’m cynical. But also, I just don’t have time right now to help make men feel better about what they’ve done. This moment in time is so utterly raw, emotional, and triggering for women. We are too busy taking care of one another to give Bush a warm pat on the back for performing what I suppose he considers “wokeness.”

“On a personal note, this last year has been an odyssey, the likes of
which I hope to never face again: anger, anxiety, betrayal,
humiliation, many selfish but, I hope, understandable emotions. But
these have given way to light, both spiritual and intellectual. It’s
been fortifying.

I know that I don’t need the accouterments of fame to know God and be
happy. After everything over the last year, I think I’m a better man
and father to my three teenage daughters—far from perfect, but
better.”

I’ll take a hard pass on all this rhetoric, especially the part where you try to use your daughters for sympathy, like so many men before you. I do feel for them, very much. But they shouldn’t be a tool you use to get your career back.

I hope you continue to evolve as a person, Billy Bush. Seriously, I do. Just keep it to yourself.

An Activist Group Is Playing Trump's 'Access Hollywood' Tape on Loop Near the White House

It’s been exactly a year since the Washington Post delivered one of the most shocking October surprises to date: the Access Hollywood tape revealing then-presidential candidate Donald Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women. Trump’s exact words—”Grab them by the pussy … You can do anything”—will likely be forever etched into the American consciousness.

But as a timely reminder to the country that this same man now occupies the White House, women’s rights group UltraViolet will be playing the video on loop from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Constitution Avenue.

“It was not so-called ‘locker room talk,’ it was a man bragging about sexually assaulting women,” UltraViolet cofounder Shaunna Thomas told the Hill. “That man may now sit in the Oval Office, but we will not let him—or anyone else—forget the tape or those comments.”

Trump had dismissed the remarks as “locker room talk” or “banter” multiple times, first in an official statement from his campaign (which has since been removed from the site), and later during his debate with Hillary Clinton. Though, for many reasons, it was been a poor excuse at the time, Trump’s apology became all the more meaningless when nearly a dozen women came forward with sexual assault allegations against him.

Trump’s so-called “locker room talk” hadn’t just been talk—according to these women’s traumatic accounts, it’d been action too.

Thomas said there’s a clear connection between Trump’s history as an alleged sexual abuser and his administration’s treatment of women. During his nine months in office, the Trump administration has diligently chipped away at women’s rights, championing health care legislation that would doom women’s reproductive health, giving state’s the go-ahead to withhold funds from abortion clinics and nixing protections for women in the workplace.

And just Friday morning, on the anniversary of his pussy-grabbing comments, the Trump administration announced it would weaken the Affordable Care Act’s mandate that employers provide birth control coverage for its employees.

Thomas isn’t surprised.

“The Donald Trump on that tape is the same Donald Trump that sits in the Oval Office every day, aggressively pursuing an anti-woman agenda,” Thomas said, “including the active dismantling of legal protections for survivors of sexual assault.”
