Not Even Meghan Markle Can Resist This Summer Dress Trend

Meghan Markle‘s never been one to shy away from a fashion trend—even if it’s not aligned with royal protocol. So it surprised no one to see the Duchess of Sussex wearing one of the most popular summer dresses of 2019 to cheer on Prince Harry (alongside Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and baby Archie) during a polo match in Berkshire, England. If anything, it made us think: Why don’t we own more linen dresses?

For the surprise family outing, Markle wore her summertime best: a loose-fit, short-sleeve linen dress perfect for a day outdoors, when you’re watching polo and also caring for a newborn.

Royal fashion blogs identified Markle’s dress as Lisa Marie Fernandez’s Rosetta linen caftan in olive, which retails for $595.

We’re seeing a trend in the duchess’s summer wardrobe: Markle wore a linen blazer to Wimbledon over the weekend. Hey, it’s hot. Why wouldn’t you want to wear light, breathable fabrics if you’re going to spend time outside?

Royals get this. Designers get this. Influencers get this. That’s why no matter where you turn, you’ll see an easy, breezy linen dress—styled with sleek aviator shades, like Markle, or with walking sandals, straw bags, and other quintessential summer accessories.

The Best Summer Books of 2019—Here’s What to Read All Season Long

After what felt like a never-ending winter, it’s finally time for chilled rosé, sundresses with sandals, and weekend getaways. And while the aforementioned hallmarks of the season are a delight, there’s one in particular that I dream about all year long: summer books.

Also known as the beach read, these books are made for the season: easy, breezy, and entertaining. Whether or not you’re actually in front of a body of water—or just lying in a particularly sunny spot—there’s no better feeling than reading a truly engrossing novel while getting a hit of vitamin D. My fellow Glamour editors couldn’t agree more. Here are some of our all-time favorite summer books—both new and older—to read on a porch, by a pool, or just with a sound machine turned to “ocean waves.”

And if you run through this list and need more recommendations for a good summer read, try these best books of 2019.

The Best Audiobooks to Listen to Summer 2019

As satisfying as it is to flip through the pages of a crisp new book, hear that spine crack, and even take notes in the margins, there’s one time it’s not worth going for the hardcover: when you’re traveling. After all, who wants to lug another thing around in their suitcase? Whether you’re trying to fit a week’s trip to Italy in a carry-on or just prefer packing more wine coolers in a beach bag than paperbacks—no judgement!—that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in the latest thriller or new celebrity memoir while on vacation.

The solution? Download an audiobook rather than using up your phone storage with podcasts. There are so many options, too. All of our best books of 2019 and favorite summer reads come in audio form—and there are tons of Audible Originals available to check out as well. All you have to do is keep your phone fully charged.

This Six-Pack Summer Bag Might Be the Accessory of the Season

Summers as an adult may not be as completely carefree as those we had as kids—we still have to go to our jobs, pay bills, and so on—but they still give us all a chance to cut loose and play more than usual. That’s true of our schedule as well as of our fashion and beauty choices. It’s a time to try out a new manicure (perhaps something fun for 4th of July?) or an accessory that is both on-trend and functional. And lucky for us, Ruffino created a summer bag that checks all of those boxes.

The wine company partnered with Brooklyn-based indie designer Stickybaby on a clear plastic tote—like those you see all over Instagram—except cleverly designed to safely carry six mini bottles of prosecco.

The bag has removable inserts that create space to hold mini bottles of Ruffino Prosecco. And it’s waterproof, so you can keep your bubbly on ice as you head to the beach or a brunch picnic with your best friends.

The Ruffino x Stickybaby bag is available for pre-order on ReserveBar—though, it’s only available to ship to California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Nevada, New York at the moment. It’s $100, and comes complete with six bottles of prosecco for you to drink.

This collaboration joins Target’s wine fanny pack as the latest booze-meets-fashion innovation for summer 2019. What’s next—a fascinator that dispenses champagne? We’d give anything to see Meghan Markle or Kate Middleton wear one of those to a fancy garden party.

15 Best Straw Bags For Summer 2019

The summer trends of the moment are, first and foremost, controversial. My pointy cat-eye sunglasses and chunky dad sneakers upset my grandmother and attract funny looks from people on the street. I mean, I love them. I just know and accept that, to many, they’re confusing. There’s one trend, though, that’s neither controversial nor confusing—that everyone seems to be in agreement on. And that is the straw bag.

Straw bags are pretty. They’re beloved by cool people like Alexa Chung and Beyoncé. And, like that one leopard-print midi skirt, they’re everywhere.

They look good with bathing suits at picnics. They look good with floral dresses at weddings. They look good with carefree off-the-shoulder tops. No matter your style—or whether you “need” it—you could probably fit one into your summer wardrobe.

Shop the best straw bags for summer below, from an affordable Jane Birkin-esque Etsy option to an upscale Coach one. (Because, yes, even Coach makes straw bags now. Convinced yet?)

Summer Fashion Trends: Best Clothes for Short and Petite Women

Reese Witherspoon just clears 5 feet at 5 feet 1 inch tall, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke just passes her at around 5 feet 2 inches, and Kim Kardashian barely tops them both at a whopping 5 feet 3 inches. Yes, they’re on the shorter side of the spectrum—or “petite,” to use the more common retail language. But that’s never stopped them from nailing a red carpet look. Same goes for influencers like Alyssa Coscarelli and Nadia Aboulhosn, who consistently show their followers how to master some of the most exciting, out-there trends regardless of size.

If you, too, are part of this select group who will never use the top shelves of their closets, read through for the biggest “it” items for summer 2019, according to the petite fashion pros (plus our picks for how to shop them).
