Stacey Abrams Promises She'll Be Back: "I Do Indeed Intend to Run for Office Again"

Just two days after ending her Georgia campaign to become the first black female governor in the United States, Stacey Abrams indicated that her political ambitions are far from over. The Democratic candidate said in an interview with CNN’s State Of The Union that although she wants to take a break following her highly contested gubernatorial race in Georgia, she still plans to run for office some day.

“I’m going to spend the next year as a private citizen, but I do indeed intend to run for office again,” Abrams said. “I’m not sure for what, and I am not exactly certain when. I need to take a nap, but once I do, I’m planning to get back into the ring.”

Following the midterm elections earlier this month, Abrams had refused to concede the nail-biter of a race to her opponent, Republican Brian Kemp, saying that she wanted to wait until every single vote had been counted. After an intensely publicized 10-day standoff, she finally recognized Kemp as governor-elect but used a fiery speech to call out voter suppression tactics and said she would be filing a federal lawsuit challenging the election’s “gross mismanagement.”

Abrams’ campaign had been embraced by many high-profile celebrities, including Michael B. Jordan, Uzo Aduba, Rashida Jones, and even Oprah, who helped rack up support by going door-to-door in Georgia—and fired back at a racist robocall that had targeted her and Abrams by urging voters to make their voices heard in the face of ugly political tactics.

“I acknowledge that former Secretary of State Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor in the 2018 gubernatorial election,” Abrams said Friday in a speech announcing the end of her bid. “But to watch an elected official who claims to represent the people in this state baldly pin his hopes for election on suppression of the people’s democratic right to vote has been truly appalling.”

Melania Trump Responds to Kavanaugh Hearings: "I Think He's Highly Qualified"

Throughout the past two weeks, much of the country’s headlines have surrounded Judge Brett Kavanaugh as the Supreme Court nominee’s confirmation hearings have proceeded onward toward his final confirmation vote scheduled for this afternoon. On Thursday, September 27, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a professor from Palo Alto University, testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee with an emotional, detailed account of a sexual assault, allegedly by Kavanaugh, in 1982. It’s an allegation that Kavanaugh has continuously, vehemently denied. Thus far, President Donald Trump has stood by his initial endorsement of Kavanaugh, taking to Twitter on the day of the Committee hearing to double down on his nomination.

Meanwhile, across the globe, First Lady Melania Trump has spent much of the past week on a solo international tour of Africa—her first since her husband took office—traveling to Ghana, Malawi, Kenya, and Egypt with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The White House has positioned this trip as an opportunity for the First Lady to learn more about “how the U.S. can play a role in providing assistance to help countries become self-sufficient” with a particular focus on “maternal and newborn care in hospitals [and] education for children.” While in Egypt on the tail end of her travels, Trump was asked by reporters if she agrees with her husband’s continued support of Supreme Court nominee Judge Kavanaugh.

“What I will say, if we’re talking about the Supreme Court and Judge Kavanaugh, I think he’s highly qualified for the Supreme Court,” she said. “I’m glad that Dr. Ford was heard; I’m glad that Judge Kavanaugh was heard. The FBI investigation was done, it’s completed, and [the] Senate voted.”

When pressed by the reporter as to whether she herself believed Dr. Ford’s allegations against Kavanaugh, the First Lady initially declined to answer but returned to the question with a general statement: “I think all the victims—we need to help all the victims, no matter what kind of abuse they had, but I am against any kind of abuse or violence.”

"I Keep Getting Dry During Sex"

Hi Emily,

My boyfriend and I have always had great sex—and had it pretty frequently. But within the last year, with the crazy-busy schedules we have, we’re having a hard time getting on the same page. When we have sex it’s great, but we never seem to be wanting it at the same time.

Since then, my other problem has been something I’ve never had an issue with before: I’ve been getting dry. It doesn’t happen until my boyfriend puts a condom on. He never thought we needed lube, but it’s making sex uncomfortable and hard to enjoy.

What can I do?
Thanks!

Cathy, 24, Missouri

Hi Cathy,

Different schedules can definitely put a damper on your sex life, and it happens to more couples than you think. Luckily, there’s a pretty easy fix for that: sex dates. While scheduling sex doesn’t sound overly romantic, it’s the perfect way to ensure you both know what’s coming and gives you a chance to psych yourself up! Exchange some titillating texts throughout the day, put on something that makes you feel sexy, and get ready to do what you guys are so great at: having amazing sex.

As for dryness, you aren’t alone there either. This happens to so many women for a variety of reasons—and it doesn’t mean you aren’t getting turned on or there’s anything wrong with you. Hormones, that time of month, and even what you eat can affect the climate down there.

If you want to get over the drought, here are a few tips that can help you out:

Spend more time on you

Make foreplay a priority. Spend more time on you and your pleasure so you’re at the peak of your arousal, and when he goes to put the condom on, keep touching yourself to ensure you stay that way.

Ditch the latex

Not all condoms are created equal. Latex can sometimes dry you out, which would explain the reaction you’ve been having when your boyfriend puts on a condom. Switch up your condom choice and try a non-latex brand like SKYN. That brand in particular comes well-lubricated and actually transfer heat and sensation as if they aren’t even there.

Lube is your friend

Lube is an amazing little invention that makes all forms of sex more comfortable—studies even show that women are more likely to orgasm when lube is involved. I recommend System JO’s H2O Jelly: It’s thicker than a regular lube, and you won’t need to keep reapplying, so it won’t disrupt the sexy flow you have going on.

With these tips, your dry spell will be a thing of the past in no time.

xx,
Emily
