Meghan Markle Best Fall Outfits: How To Get Her Look

If women started playing sports while wearing stilettos tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised. That’s because Meghan Markle has worn heels to play ball on two occasions and that’s probably enough to start a trend. For reasons that seem beyond rhyme or reason, the Duchess has unprecedented control over what everyone wants to buy. All Markle has to do is wear a piece of clothing on her body and it will immediately sell out regardless of the price tag. This is known as ‘insanity’ or by it’s more popular name, ‘The Meghan Markle Effect‘. Her influence is so powerful it caused designer Dion Lee’s website to crash because she wore one of his navy dresses during the royal tour in Australia, and her style can create waitlists that have more than 10,000 people.

Here’s an unpopular opinion: For the longest time I just didn’t get it. Sometimes I’m still not sure if I do. Of course Meghan Markle looks good in everything, she’s Meghan Markle! She’s pretty, fit, seemingly happy, and always put together. Whatever it is, it wasn’t until I recently starting working on building out my fall wardrobe that I noticed Markle’s influence trickling into my own shopping cart. Maybe it’s a latent desire to be a royal or maybe it really is just the Meghan Markle Effect coming for my closet. Nevertheless, here are some of her best fall looks and the outfit lessons they’ve taught me, plus all the pieces I’m now convinced I most definitely need.

Fall Outfits for 2018 You Can Buy on Amazon

If you’re anything like me, you are currently consumed by the idea of creating all the most perfect fall outfits. As soon as I feel the first breeze of fall, I start dreaming of the fall outfit essentials–boots, thigh high socks, oversized sweaters–only to be disappointed when I can’t find them in my closet. So in the past couple of weeks, I’ve started looking for those perfect fall outfit pieces on Amazon. I’m not going to lie, I just recently got Prime three weeks ago. I am 26 years old and so this statement elicited many gasps from everyone I told. They were so appalled it was as if I told them I just watched my first episode of Sex and The City–which I actually did last week, don’t @ me–but in all seriousness it’s true, I am late.

Up until recently the only thing I spent money on was clothing. I spent the three years after graduating college living at home to save up for an apartment which meant I had no real living or food expenses. I’ve since moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend. He just moved out of his parents’ as well which means we don’t have much of anything and still can’t cook. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that we are currently sleeping on the floor (on a Casper mattress, but still!).

And so Amazon entered my life and my empty apartment. My first order was a pair of lights for our balcony that I have since broken and re-ordered. Metal straws? I have two sets of eight and a cleaning brush. A red notebook comprised entirely of grids and lines? Just wrote it in four minutes ago. A portable fabric shaver and tiny travel steamer? I haven’t seen a wrinkle or a piece of lint in days. Teeny tiny glasses specifically made for orange juice? A necessity according to absolutely no one but me.

Since my clothing collection takes up a huge chunk of the apartment (I wish I was kidding) it only makes sense that Amazon would find its way into my closet too. Sometimes my boyfriend tells me to look for “home goods” and I mistake it for “wardrobe essentials.” I just can’t help that my every other lingering thought is about what I’ll be wearing tomorrow and the next day and the day after. Recently an Amazon search for clothing hangers led to an Amazon search for white cowboy boots which led to an Amazon purchase of one of my most essential fall outfit pieces ever.

Suddenly I started to wonder (I did just watch Sex and The City ) could I buy all of my basics for my fall outfits on Amazon? The answer is hell yes. Below are 18 items I guarantee will complete, if not totally transform, all your fall outfits (and wardrobe).

These Fall 2018 Outfits Prove That a Grey Blazer Goes With Everything

Last fall, I fell in love at Fashion Week. It wasn’t with a new designer or a new “it” model, but with a single item I kept seeing, over and over again—and not even on the runway: Among the fanny packs and chunky sneakers making the street style rounds, there was a specific type of blazer that the fashion crowd rallied behind. It was practical, polished, and slightly preppy; I could easily see myself shrugging it on over an all-denim outfit or a sweater dress. Since then, all I could think about was how I needed a grey plaid blazer.

Fast-forward to Fall 2018, and the grey plaid blazer has proven to be more than a street-style fling. You can find versions of it at every end of the market—from H&M to the Tibi and Theory. (I’m partial to a double-breasted rendition from Nordstrom’s in-house label Treasure & Bond.) It has gotten to the point where I seek out situations to incorporate it into my look: dwindling office A.C., an “important” meeting I want to dress up for… I truly love it that much. It doesn’t hurt that my beloved grey plaid blazer is something of a compliment magnet, either.

To illustrate just how versatile a grey plaid blazer can be, I laid out five ways to wear the same style, for a variety of scenarios, from a buttoned-up workday to a more-undone weekend brunch. Copy one, or all five—no matter your aesthetic, you’ll discover a newfound affection for the piece while getting your cost-per-wear out of it.

Serena Williams' Best Tennis Outfits of All Time

Tennis fashion has not only become a topic of conversation, it’s become a full-blown trend: Data site Lyst recently reported that searches for “tennis apparel” increased by 59 percent since 2017. But Serena Williams has been consistently innovating and pushing conventions on this category for decades, since her training days in the early ’90s.

Throughout her career, which spans 72 singles titles and 23 doubles titles, Williams has taken to the court in ROYGBIV dresses, statement jewelry, and, yes, catsuits. As her star has risen in the sport, so has her fashion credit—first with a Puma endorsement, then with a Nike sponsorship, which continues to this day. (Her 2018 U.S. Open uniforms are the result of a collaboration between her, Nike, and Virgil Abloh for Off-White.)

Over twenty-six years in the sports world’s spotlight, Williams hasn’t repeated a single look for her major matches. (Though, she has shown a preference for colorblocked dresses and coordinated sneakers.) And some of her outfits have incited controversy. But Williams doesn’t seem fazed by it—like she said in response to the French Open’s ban on one of her outfits: “When it comes to fashion, you don’t want to be a repeat offender.”

In honor of her eighteenth U.S. Open appearance, we’re looking back at Williams’ most epic tennis outfits of all time.

ICYMI: Cardi B Wore Three Different Outfits to the 2018 VMAs

When it came to her first official appearance in months, Cardi B wasn’t skipping a beat. On Monday, the rapper walked her first red carpet since welcoming daughter Kulture in July at the 2018 VMAs. But she wasn’t going to call it a night at just one gown. No, this is Cardi B: She squeezed in two outfit changes throughout the program. And each look was more fabulous than the last.

First, Cardi B owned the red carpet with her asymmetrical velvet dress by Nicolas Jebran. The deep jewel tone of the gown looked stunning on the singer, who paired it matching purple strappy heels and a seriously massive pair of emerald earrings.

Once inside Radio City Music Hall, Cardi began preparing to present onstage. Likely anticipating this would be a moment, she enlisted stylist Kollin Carter to whip up a second gown—this time, a dramatic red number with a lengthy train, by Azzi & Osta. This time, though, she accessorized with a Moonman.

Oh, but that’s not all. Remember: Award shows can go long. It never hurts to have another backup outfit.

So, Cardi changed once again, into a short black dress with oversized ruffled shoulders and a plunging neckline. She rocked that look to pick up her third award of the evening, for Best Collaboration, which she won alongside Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khalid.

Cardi’s style is always evolving—and that extends to her beauty. According to her makeup artist Erika La Pearl, for Pat McGrath Labs, her makeup played a very specific role in her look for the evening: “This is Cardi’s first red carpet after having a baby and we wanted to debut a more sophisticated look,” she shared with Glamour in a statement. “Cardi has a new perspective on life. She can achieve it all and her look says that!” Hey, whatever Cardi’s doing is working.
