OK, fine: Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion may seem like a silly farce about two ditzy Valley women attending their reunion on paper; in reality, it’s a moving (and yes, silly) look at our deepest insecurities and the freedom you’ll find when you stay true to yourself.
Clueless (Hulu)
It’s a scientific fact that a person cannot sustain a bad mood for the duration of Clueless, a social satire about Beverly Hills teens. This has been confirmed by the CDC, FDA, MPAA and DARPA, probably.

The best teen adaptation of a Shakespeare play ever (sorry, 10 Things I Hate About You), She’s the Man is a comedic tour-de-force by Amanda Bynes, as well as the film that introduced many of us to the goofy wonder of Channing Tatum.
Just Friends (available to rent on Amazon and iTunes)
The will-they-won’t-they romance between Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart in this movie is entirely beside the point because Just Friends is all about Anna Faris’ bashit pop star, a totally inspired and amazing send-up of pampered celebrities.
Baby Boom (available to rent on iTunes and Amazon)
By now, we hope, we’re over seeing “she’s a business lady but can she be a mom?!?” story lines, but this was 1987 and people still had “balancing it all” questions, OK? The fact is, Diane Keaton is absolutely delightful as a reluctant guardian at her wit’s end with parenting.
The Princess Bride (available to rent on Amazon)
Why is this the all-time, best-ever cheer you up on a sick day movie? Well, maybe because the framing device is literally about the story cheering up a sick kid. Also, because of Vizzini.
The Addams Family (Amazon Prime)
Utterly iconic, fabulously macabre, and hilariously dark, this weird and twisted family tale is enjoyable beyond Halloween.
Sister Act (Hulu)
Nothing against Maria Von Trapp and the Sound of Music, but Whoopi Goldberg is the best singing nun there ever was.
Mean Girls (Netflix)
By now, we hope you have seen Mean Girls, the frequently quoted social study of, you guessed it, mean girls. If you haven’t…what?
Coming To America (Hulu)
Coming to America stars Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall and Shari Headley and Eddie Murphy and Eddie Murphy and…well, Eddie Murphy has a bunch of parts in this movie. (When does he not?) All that matters is they’re all hysterical.
Beetlejuice (Amazon Prime)
Winona Ryder stars as a goth teen being haunted by an obnoxious ghost named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). Who knew hell could be so hilarious?
How To Be Single (HBO)
This 2016 movie was such a goddamn gem that no one appreciates, despite it being extremely cute, very funny, and weirdly one of the most relatable rom coms of the last five years. But. thanks to streaming, it’s not too late to see how great it is for yourself!
Keanu (HBO)
Tiffany Haddish was the big breakout star of summer 2017’s supremely funny Girls Trip. That movie isn’t available on streaming yet—you can still see it in theaters!—but catch Haddish in the also very funny 2016 comedy Keanu. Bonus: The movie features a kitten so cute, you’ll find yourself browsing Petfinder.com after watching.
Pitch Perfect (HBO)
Have there been too many Pitch Perfect sequels, thus diluting the popularity of the franchise? Absolutely. Does the original still hold up, especially on days when you just need some soundtrack-backed fun? 100%.
Magic Mike XXL (HBO)
There’s a lot to love about the surprisingly feminist Magic Mike XXL—Jada Pinkett Smith’s empowering speeches, the abs, the fact that Donald Glover is in it, among others—but to really laugh until your drink comes out of your nose, just skip straight to Joe Manganiello’s convenience store scene and thank us later.
Bridesmaids (HBO)
Every scene in Bridesmaids feels like a gift—but if you can get through the scene where Annie (Kristen Wiig) has a meltdown over a “stupid fucking cookie” without cackling, you might have no soul.
Spy (HBO)
Melissa McCarthy plays a desk-bound CIA analyst who…oh, we had you at “Melissa McCarthy”? Cool, cool, cool. Enjoy!
Trainwreck (HBO)
