The Trailer for Maisie Williams' New 'X-Men: The New Mutants' Movie Is Terrifying

PHOTO: 20th Century Fox/YouTube

There has been no shortage of X-Men movies since filmgoers were first introduced to Professor X and company in 2000. Marvel fans have seen the good (X-Men, X-Men: First Class), the bad (X-Men: The Last Stand), and the so sad it might ruin not just all Wolverine movies, but all Hugh Jackson movies for you (Logan). And now, mutant fans are finally getting a horror movie.

On Friday (the 13th, no less) the trailer dropped for X-Men: The New Mutants—a look at what happens when mutant teens aren’t sent to a magical prep school full of small classes and only the occasional government raid, and instead are locked in some kind of haunted house. The film stars Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie (Mutant code name: Cannonball) and Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair a.k.a. Wolfsbane. (I know it’s traditional to pick a new name that highlights your abilities, but Rahne Sinclair is already a pretty cool name.)

With the film, Williams is joining her GoT co-star and real-life bestie, Sophie Turner, in the X-Men universe. Turner played young Jean Grey in last year’s X-Men Apocalypse and will star in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, out next November.

If the star power of X-Men: The New Mutants hasn’t sold you (the film also features Split‘s Anya Taylor-Joy and 13 Reasons Why’s Henry Zaga), the man behind the camera might. Josh Boone, who directs the new film and penned the screenplay, also directed classic teen weepie The Fault in Our Stars.

X-Men: The New Mutants will be released on April 13. Watch the trailer below, if you dare:

Watch This: 17 TV and Movie Releases This Week Worth Staying In For

The fall TV season continues this week with a slew of exciting offerings, both old and new. Some shows are even a mix of both, like MTV’s TRL reboot that kicks off Monday, October 2. (Yes, TRL is coming back; early 2000s fanatics rejoice!) If you want to pass on TRL, though, there are plenty of shows this week that will give you just as many feels. Scandal‘s last season kicks off Thursday, not to mention the premieres for black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat. And let’s not forget the doozy of a Kate Winslet film hitting theaters this weekend, The Mountain Between Us, about two strangers-turned-lovers who almost freeze to death. Sound familiar?

These are the 17 can’t-miss premieres happening this week. Get excited.

Sunday, October 1

Keeping Up With the Kardashians: The 14th season of E!’s signature show about pop-culture’s signature family premieres tonight. Even after 10 years, we’re still invested as hell. Bible. 9 P.M. EST on E!

Ten Days in the Valley: Kyra Sedgwick experiences a mother’s worst nightmare when her daughter is kidnapped in the middle of the night. A Taken-esque narrative ensues. 10 P.M. EST on ABC

Monday, October 2

The Gifted: A badass female superhero (Natalie Alyn Lind) is at the center of this X-Men spinoff series, which explores what happens to two teenagers when they realize they have mutant powers. 9 P.M. EST on Fox

TRL: No, Carson Daly isn’t back to host, but this highly-anticipated reboot will surely deliver the nostalgic music-video feels you want. Ed Sheeran and Migos are set to perform in the first episode. 3:30 P.M. EST on MTV

Tuesday, October 3

Queen Sugar: The second midseason premiere of this smash hit from Ava DuVernay premieres tonight, and the stakes are high. Tune in to find out how Darla’s family reacts to her engagement news and if Aunt Violet’s condition worsens. (We’re particularly nervous about the latter.) 10 P.M. EST on OWN

black-ish: Season four of the Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross-helmed comedy kicks off this evening, but something tells us the laughs might be in short supply. Remember, we just found out Bow’s having complications with her pregnancy, so viewers will be walking on eggshells until that’s resolved. 9 P.M. EST on ABC

Fresh Off the Boat: A quick refresher: Jessica and Louis’ plans to move back into their old home are foiled when they discover someone else is already renting it. Does this mean the family has to stay in their new digs, which it’s pretty clear they hate? Tune in to find out. 8:30 P.M. EST on ABC

The Mayor: One of fall’s most promising new offerings tracks what happens when an aspiring rapper (Brandon Micheal Hall) decides to run for mayor to promote his music and wins. There’s only one thing to do in this situation, TBH: Hire Lea Michele to run your office. (For the record, it’s one of the Glee star’s strongest performances to date.) 9:30 P.M. EST on ABC

[embedded content]

Wednesday, October 4

iHeartRadio Music Festival: The Weeknd, Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and other singers perform at this two-day festival, which takes place in Las Vegas. 8 P.M. EST on The CW

The Real Housewives of New Jersey: RHONJ is kind of like a music festival, too—except it’s filled with people screaming instead of singing. If that’s your jam, then add this to your list. 9 P.M. EST on Bravo

[embedded content]

Thursday, October 5

The Fosters, season 5A: We’re still not over the final scene from 5A, when the ICE agents literally showed up at prom. Relive that moment, plus the 10 other episodes from 5A, on Netflix starting today. Available on Netflix

Scandal: Olivia Pope drinks wine, eats popcorn, and solves political crises for one final season, starting this evening. I can’t talk about this more without crying. 9 P.M. EST on ABC

[embedded content]

Friday, October 6

Once Upon a Time: This soft reboot centers on a new protagonist, Lucy (Alison Fernandez), who arrives in Seattle with her Once Upon a Time book to find her father. 8 P.M. EST on ABC

The Mountain Between Us: Kate Winslet and Idris Elba play very hot strangers whose small airplane crashes on top of an isolated mountain. Why is Winslet always in movies where she’s cold? In theaters

[embedded content]

Saturday, October 7

Spielberg: A documentary about Steven Spielberg, for those of you dying to learn more about how Jaws and Jurassic Park were filmed. 8 P.M. EST on HBO

Blair Witch: You can now stream last year’s very terrifying Blair Witch sequel, which basically has the same story as the 1999 film but with better cinematography. Consider your first horror movie marathon set. Available on Amazon and Hulu

Blake Lively Is Channeling 'Orange Is the New Black' for Her New Movie

Blake Lively’s filmography runs the gamut. Of course, she’s best known for playing Serena van der Woodsen on The CW’s hit series Gossip Girl, but her range extends far past the Upper East Side. She battled a man-eating shark in The Shallows, remained ageless (literally) in The Age of Adaline, and wore the same pair of jeans for days in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

One role she hasn’t played, however, is prison inmate—well, she has now. Photos surfaced this week of Lively on the set of her new film, A Simple Favor, and she’s serving some serious Orange Is the New Black vibes in them. And by that we mean she’s wearing an orange prison jumpsuit. Yup. Check it out for yourself, below:

PHOTO: The Image Direct

Here’s what we know about A Simple Favor: It’s based on the novel of the same name by Darcey Bell and centers on a mommy blogger (Anna Kendrick), her best friend who goes missing (Lively), and the latter’s husband (Henry Golding). Lively was photographed on set a few weeks ago crying with a fake black eye, so this film is pretty dramatic.

Why Lively’s character ends up in jail is a mystery to everyone who hasn’t read the novel. These tiny previews suggest A Simple Favor is the most intense film Lively has ever done—yes, even more harrowing than killing a 20-foot monster shark by herself.

But Serena lovers shouldn’t completely freak out: There’s still a little bit of dazzle in Lively’s jumpsuit look. Notice how her shirt is slightly tied up. You have to accessorize in some way, am I right?

A Simple Favor is slated for a 2018 release.

Broad City: Broad City is baaaack, and the first question on fans’ minds is what the hell happened to Abbi and Ilana on that flight to Israel. (A quick recap: Abbi got her period on the flight but didn’t have any tampons, and sheer insanity ensued.) Not to quote Taylor Swift’s Reputation era, but brace for impact. 10:30 P.M. EST on Comedy Central

Thursday, September 14

Disney’s Pocahontas: Starting today, you can paint with all the colors of the wind whenever you damn well please—well, until Disney’s own streaming service launches. Netflix

Saturday, September 16

Ten: Murder Island: If campy horror schlock is your poison, Lifetime has the supply tonight. (Hint: It’s in the title.) 8 P.M EST on Lifetime

Drink, Slay, Love: This is the greatest movie title in the history of movie titles, and its premise sounds incredibly fun, too. Fall 2017 Movie Guide: 23 Films You Can't Miss

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e473e5c76b06a020a0/master/pass/PATTI%20CAKES.png” alt=”Patti Cake$ (August 18)“/>

    Patti Cake$ (August 18)

Patti Cake$ was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s obvious why. This endearing little indie centers on a plus-size white girl named Patti, who tries to gain confidence and purpose by pursuing a rap music career. Of course, white people have run into trouble crossing into the rap space—cough, Iggy Azalea, cough—but Patti Cake$ is executed with genuine authenticity and heart. Which is why it works.

    Fox Searchlight

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e573e5c76b06a020a1/master/pass/home-again.png” alt=”Home Again (September 8)“/>

    Home Again (September 8)

Reese Witherspoon follows up her acclaimed role in Big Little Lies with Home Again, a heartfelt dramedy about a recently-separated mother whose life flips upside down when she lets three twenty-something dudes stay in her house. At first, this film seems formulaic and a tad cheesy, but Witherspoon’s nuanced performance makes it worth the watch. Oh, and her house-mates are pretty hot too.

    Open Road

All I See Is You (September 15)

Blake Lively plays a blind woman who regains her sight and realizes her life—and marriage—are royally screwed up. There’s a campy, Obsessed element to this film that makes it perfect popcorn fun. Something tells me Lively’s husband in the film, played by Jason Clarke, is up to no good.

    Open Road

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e30701570c3f4c1451/master/pass/mother-movie.png” alt=”mother! (September 15)“/>

    mother! (September 15)

Director Darren Aronofsky follows up 2014’s Noah with mother!, a psychological horror movie that is shrouded in secrecy. The only thing we know for sure is that Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem’s “tranquil existence” gets interrupted when Michelle Pfeiffer and Ed Harris show up to their house. Kristen Wiig’s in this film, too, doing…who TF knows? But it looks good. And scary as hell.

    Paramount

Battle of the Sexes (September 22)

Emma Stone and Steve Carell star in this historical comedy about the iconic 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Spoiler alert: King wins, which is a big deal because Riggs spent weeks telling the press there’s no way a woman could beat him. Stone and Carell’s chemistry jumps off the screen here.

    Fox Searchlight

    Flatliners (September 29)

Ellen Page and Nina Dobrev lead this sci-fi horror romp, which focuses on a group of med students who use high-tech equipment to briefly stop their hearts and experience death. As you can imagine, things don’t exactly go well. This film is actually a follow-up to the 1990 film with the same name. Both are ridiculous, but highly entertaining.

    Cross Creek

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e50701570c3f4c1453/master/pass/the-mountain-between-s.png” alt=”The Mountain Between Us (October 6)“/>

The Mountain Between Us (October 6)

The Mountain Between Us is just like Titanic —but in this case Jack (Idris Elba) and Rose (Winslet) get stranded at the top of a frigid mountain and have to fight for survival. So it’s actually nothing like Titanic. Elba’s signature smolder is abundant in this movie, though. Praised be.

    20th Century Fox

    Breathe (October 13)

Annnd here’s your first tearjerker of the season. It stars Andrew Garfield as Robin Cavendish, a man who contracts polio at 28 years old, paralyzing him from the neck down. With only a few months left to live, he and his wife (Claire Foy) travel around the world helping other people with the same affliction. Like we said, get ready to cry.

    Marshall (October 13)

Chadwick Boseman, Josh Gad, Sterling K. Brown, and Kate Hudson star in this heart-racing biographical drama about Thurgood Marshall’s life. But this isn’t a sweeping biopic: It focuses on one, very specific case Marshall took on before he became a household name. The performances in this one look spectacular.

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e1f11fd00de6733b77/master/pass/GOODBYE-CHRISTOPHER-ROBBIN.png” alt=”Goodbye Christopher Robin (October 13)“/>

    Goodbye Christopher Robin (October 13)

Winnie the Pooh gets the Finding Neverland treatment in Goodbye Christopher Robin, which explores how A. A. Milne found the inspiration for Disney’s beloved yellow bear. Warning: Nostalgic feels ahead—not to mention Margot Robbie slaying a blond bob.

    Fox Searchlight

Same Kind of Different as Me (October 20)

An art dealer (Greg Kinnear) tries to save his marriage by befriending a homeless man (Djimon Hounsou). That’s a confusing presence, I know, but there’s a sweet spirit to Same Kind of Different as Me that warrants it a spot on your must-watch list. Plus, Renée Zellweger is in it!

    Paramount

  • <img src=”https://media.glamour.com/photos/599480e762e26f7ab4d5303e/master/pass/WONDERSTRUCK.png” alt=”Wonderstruck (October 20) “/>

    Wonderstruck (October 20)

This time-bending drama comes from the supremely talented Todd Haynes, who directed Carol and Far From Heaven. In it, two young children from different time periods set out to find people they think will forever change them. For young Ben (Oakes Fegley), it’s his father. For Rose (Millicent Simmonds, Julianne Moore), it’s a famous actress.

Killing of a Sacred Deer (October 27)

Absurdist maestro Yorgos Lanthimos helms Killing of a Sacred Deer , which looks far scarier than his last film, The Lobster. Like mother!, this film’s specific plot is still a mystery, but it looks psychologically taxing. Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell star.

    A24

    Novitiate (October 27)

Margaret Qualley and Melissa Leo star in this religious drama about a young girl who trains to become a nun during the 1970s, a time of radical change in the Catholic Church. This film is female in its DNA; it’s written and directed by Margaret Betts and boasts a largely-female cast. If that’s not enough to get you to the cinema, maybe Dianna Agron’s presence will do the trick. She played Quinn in Glee!

Professor Marston & the Wonder Women (October 27)

Wonder Woman’s origin is revealed in this historical drama about William Marston (Luke Evans, a.k.a Gaston), the college professor who originally created the lasso-wielding superhero. And what was his inspiration, you ask? The romantic relationship he and his wife (Rebecca Hall) began with his student (Bella Heathcote). Very saucy.

Thor (Chris Hemsowrth) has a lot of battling to do in this epic sequel. First, he has to win a duel against The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in order to escape planet Sakaar. Then he has to stop Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying Asgard . All in a day’s work, ya know? (Real talk: Blanchett is the greatest villain in superhero movie history.)

A Bad Moms Christmas (November 3)

Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn return in the sequel to 2016’s critically-acclaimed Bad Moms. It’s basically the same movie, but holiday-themed: Our three protagonists rebel against Christmas-mom expectations by getting drunk at the mall, not buying Christmas trees, and demanding better presents. This Is Us dreamboat Justin Hartley makes a wonderful, shirtless cameo.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (November 10)

A rightfully-enraged mother (Frances McDormand) starts a billboard smear campaign against her local police because she feels they didn’t try to solve her daughter’s murder. That’s a bleak premise, I know, but this film actually looks rip-roaringly funny.

    Justice League (November 17)

Gal Gadot returns as Wonder Woman in Justice League, which assembles all your DC faves—Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and the Flash—for some crime-fighting action. Seeing Jason Momoa shirtless is enough to check this one out.

    Molly’s Game (November 22)

This wild true story stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive poker game for 10 years. Seriously, her game attracted some of the richest and most high-profile people in the world. This film explores how Bloom got rich…and lost it all. (She was arrested by the FBI in the middle of the night.) Chastain delivers an explosive (and amazing) performance, as per usual.

Call Me By Your Name (November 24)

A passionate relationship develops between a doctoral student (Armie Hammer) and a 17-year-old boy (Timothée Chalamet) as they spend a summer together in Italy. It’s like Carol, but younger and with dudes. Real talk, though: Call Me by Your Name was a hit at Sundance and is a fine addition to the short list of modern, queer love films.
