It Sure Looks Like Miley Cyrus Made a Joke About Her Short Marriage to Liam Hemsworth

The internet broke over the summer when Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced they were separating after less than a year of marriage and 10 years of dating. Their follow-up relationships have been the subject of intense tabloid scrutiny, from Cyrus’s short-lived one with Kaitlynn Carter to her current situation with Cody Simpson. Hemsworth, meanwhile, has been linked to Dynasty actor Maddison Brown.

But even with all these updates, people are still fascinated with Hemsworth and Cyrus as a couple. Case in point: The comment Cyrus just wrote on the artist Matty Mo’s Instagram. (He’s better known for creating the art collective The Most Famous Artist.) “Getting married to @mileycyrus in 2020,” Mo wrote, to which Cyrus responded with, “It probably won’t last long. But always down to try. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

See the comment for yourself, below.

Granted, this could be absolutely harmless—or it could be Cyrus subtly trolling herself over her short-lived marriage to Hemsworth. (They married in December 2018 and officially divorced in the fall of 2019.)

Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus haven’t made any public comments about one another recently. The last thing Hemsworth himself said was back in August. “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” he wrote on Instagram. “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.”

Meanwhile, Cyrus took to Twitter in late August to address rumors she cheated on Hemsworth.

“I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” she said. “Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”

Liam Hemsworth’s Sister-in-Law Says He 'Deserves More’ Than Miley Cyrus

Liam Hemsworth hasn’t said much publicly since his split from Miley Cyrus but that isn’t stopping his extended family from sharing their two cents—and that includes Hemsworth’s sister-in-law, Elsa Pataky.

During an event in Madrid for the launch of “KissMas Time” by Women’s Secret lingerie, Pataky was asked how her brother-in-law is coping after his separation from the “Slide Away” singer. And Pataky didn’t hold back with her answer.

“My brother in law, well, after a relationship where he dedicated 10 years, he’s discouraged… but he’s taking it well.” the actress told Hola. “He’s a strong guy, and he deserves the best. I think he deserves much more.”

Pataky explained that in the wake of the breakup Hemsworth has been spending a lot more time with family, including Pataky’s husband and Liam’s older brother, Chris Hemsworth.

“Family is always there to protect you. He and his brother are so close, and he’s really been there for him to give him the strength he needs,” she said.

Pataky’s interview is largely surprising considering that the actress and Cyrus were reportedly close—close enough to get matching tattoos back in 2016.

Since the couple announced their separation in September, Hemsworth has only made one statement about the relationship. But, the statement mostly amounted to “no comment.” Just days after the breakup news broke, Hemsworth took to Instagram to share, “Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false.”

The good news is, he also appears to be dating again. As Glamour previously reported, Hemsworth has repeatedly been spotted with Australian actor Maddison Brown, most well-known for her recurring role in the CW revival of Dynasty.

For her part, Cyrus has also remained mostly mum on her separation from Hemsworth, but she’s been anything but quiet about her newfound happiness, first with girlfriend Kaitlyn Carter and now with beau Cody Simpson.

Hey, as long as they’re all happy, we’re happy.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Have Unfollowed Each Other on Instagram

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have made it abundantly clear that their relationship is over—what with the public statement back in August, Hemsworth reportedly filing for divorce soon after, and the fact that they’ve both been seen in public with new romantic interests. But the split wasn’t Instagram official…until now.

That’s right, Cyrus and Hemsworth are no longer following each other on Instagram, a place where their love once shined so bright. If you go to either star’s account and search under “following” you’ll see for yourself that this era is truly over. A Miley fan account claims this all went down after Cyrus posted content with her current boyfriend, Cody Simpson, in the home she used to share with Hemsworth. “Miley unfollowed Liam Hemsworth on Instagram after he unfollowed her for posting a video dancing with Cody Simpson,” the account tweeted. But, of course, we can’t truly know what caused the former couple to hit that unfollow button.

However, the former couple hasn’t gone so far as to delete all their old photos together. So if you’d like to relive those happier times (like their wedding!), do it while you can.

The singer has also unfollowed Kaitlynn Carter, whom she dated immediately after the separation from Hemsworth. Carter recently opened up about their relationship in an essay for Elle. “I fell just as hard for her as I had the older man so many years before. It was that same familiar force of nature; I didn’t have to think about a thing or overanalyze,” she writes. “It just happened and it felt exactly right. Reflecting back on our three-year friendship, I realized I’d always been drawn to her in a way I wasn’t with other friends, but until that trip it had never crossed my mind to think of her in a romantic sense.”

Cyrus is now famously dating Australian singer Cody Simpson, which is well-documented on her Instagram feed, and Hemsworth has been spotted holding hands with actor Maddison Brown.

Kaitlynn Carter on How She Fell 'in Love' With Miley Cyrus

Kaitlynn Carter’s whirlwind relationship with Miley Cyrus was one the biggest entertainment news stories of the summer. The two women got together shortly after Cyrus announced her
separation from Liam Hemsworth. Cyrus is now dating Australian singer Cody Simpson, but not before she and Carter spent a few months in new-relationship bliss.

Now, Kaitlynn Carter is opening up about this experience in an essay for ELLE.com. In it, she reveals how and why she ended up falling in love with Cyrus.

Their romance kicked off during an August vacation in Italy, following Cyrus’s breakup from Hemsworth and Carter’s separation with husband Brody Jenner.

“Until that trip, it had never crossed my mind that I was even capable of loving a woman the way I loved her,” Carter writes in her piece. “But after reflecting on my romantic history, I realized that I’ve never really had a ‘type.'”

She later writes, “I fell just as hard for her as I had the older man so many years before. [Carter was linked to actor David Spade back in 2012.] It was that same familiar force of nature; I didn’t have to think about a thing or overanalyze. It just happened and it felt exactly right. Reflecting back on our three-year friendship, I realized I’d always been drawn to her in a way I wasn’t with other friends, but until that trip it had never crossed my mind to think of her in a romantic sense.”

She blames this partially on our culture’s obsession with putting people’s sexuality in boxes. “I guess technically I could label myself a number of ways. Or on second thought, not at all,” she writes. “Why are we so hellbent on defining each variation of sexuality, anyway? We’ve become a society of labels, even as we claim to be more open-minded than ever.”

Carter’s relationship with Cyrus strengthened her belief in rebuking labels. “While it was short-lived, I’ll remain eternally grateful to my most recent relationship for opening my eyes to this unexplored part of myself, and for inspiring a new level of self-discovery and wonder at all the possibilities of life,” she writes. “I’ve been forced to get to know myself in a far deeper way than ever before, and not just in terms of my sexual preferences. I’ve also been forced to reckon with who I am as a person.”

She adds that her experience with Cyrus was “so much more” than a “summer fling” or “same-sex affair” or any of the other unfair labels people put on it. “This was a profound journey of self-discovery,” she says. “For the first time, I listened to myself, forgot about the ‘norm’ and lived. I hope that everyone, when given the chance, takes the time to understand who exactly their most authentic selves are, untethered from what we may have been taught to believe.”

Apparently, Liam Hemsworth Doesn’t Care About Miley Cyrus’s Relationship Status

Liam Hemsworth is reportedly completely unfazed by his ex Miley Cyrus‘s highly-publicized relationships following their split in August. If you’re having trouble keeping up, the “Slide Away” singer was first linked to Kaitlynn Carter after she and Hemsworth announced their divorce. Now, she’s dating Australian singer Cody Simpson. But Hemsworth isn’t keeping up with any of this gossip—he’s moved on.

“[Liam] doesn’t have a reaction or plan on engaging with Miley [at this time],” a source tells E! News. “[He] has moved on.”

The insider adds that Hemsworth hasn’t been “seeking out updates on her and what she’s gotten up to. He doesn’t want to hear about it and usually doesn’t.”

Apparently, “nothing is really a surprise at this point” for the Hunger Games star, per this source: “He’s leaving it all in the past and is in a different place now. He is busy on set and working. That’s his focus now and what he is going to keep doing.”

Liam Hemsworth also has a new fling going on of his own. Earlier this month he was spotted out and about with Dynasty actor Maddison Brown. Their exact status isn’t known to the public, but they were spotted kissing in New York on October 10. The Daily Mail has those photos.

Meanwhile, Cyrus’s new boyfriend Simpson threw some low-key shade at all her exes in a recent interview on the Kylie & Jackie O Show. According to E!, Simpson said that Cyrus hasn’t been able to “experience” romance in any of her previous relationships. “I’d like to be the best boyfriend I could possibly be,” he said.

Hemsworth probably won’t talk about his relationship status any time soon. He was very tight-lipped following his breakup from Cyrus, only offering a brief statement on Instagram. “Hi all.
Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward,” he wrote. “This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

Miley Cyrus Told Women They "Don't Have to Be Gay" Because There Are "Good Men Out There"

Miley Cyrus has never been someone to shy away from controversy or speaking her mind. And the latest example of this comes from a recent Instagram Live that she did with her new boyfriend, Cody Simpson. In it, the singer joked that women “don’t have to be gay” because there are “good men out there.” People, unsurprisingly, have not responded well to this sentiment.

“Guys, I was being a little too, like…hardcore feminist vibes and, just like, I don’t know, not allowing anyone in, but now I am,” Cyrus said during her live-stream, per E! “There are good men out there, guys. Don’t give up. You don’t have to be gay. There are good people with dicks out there. You just gotta find them. You gotta find a dick that’s not a dick, you know what I mean?”

Simpson then laughed and repeated Cyrus’s “You don’t have to be gay” statement, and she responded with, “I always thought I had to be gay, because I just thought all guys are evil, but that’s not true.”

“There are good people out there that just happen to have dicks,” Cyrus continued. “I’ve only ever met one, and he’s on this live.”

Back in February, Cyrus talked to Vanity Fair about her sexuality in the context of her marriage to Liam Hemsworth. (The couple announced their split in August, and she then dated Kaitlynn Carter before getting together with Simpson.) “We’re redefining, to be fucking frank, what it looks like for someone that’s a queer person like myself to be in a hetero relationship. A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person,” she said. “What I preach is: People fall in love with people, not gender, not looks, not whatever. What I’m in love with exists on almost a spiritual level. It has nothing to do with sexuality. Relationships and partnerships in a new generation—I don’t think they have so much to do with sexuality or gender. Sex is actually a small part, and gender is a very small, almost irrelevant part of relationships.”

The reactions to Cyrus’s comments were swift. “Miley, this is so not it. Women don’t ‘have to be gay’ because they ‘can’t find a good person with a d*ck,'” one person tweeted. “Don’t use the queer community as a stop-gap because you couldn’t find a boyfriend. People aren’t queer because they ‘gave up’ on men. This is so insulting.”
