Meghan Markle Opens Up About Her Passion for Volunteering


Just when we thought Meghan Markle and Prince Harry couldn’t get any more #relationshipgoals—the engagement pictures! the on-air gushing!—we get another little peek into what makes the couple such a royally good pair. The Daily Mail recently drew an excerpt from The Game Changers: Success Secrets From Inspirational Women Changing the Game and Influencing the World, published at the end of November, that features Meghan opening up about where she got her passion for volunteering—something shared in a big way by her fiancé.

“I started working at a soup kitchen in Skid Row of Los Angeles when I was 13 years old, and the first day I felt really scared,” the Daily Mail quotes from the book. “I was young, and it was rough and raw down there, and though I was with a great volunteer group, I just felt overwhelmed. I remember one of my mentors (Mrs. Maria Pollia) told me that, “Life is about putting others’ needs above your own fears.'”

“Yes, make sure you are safe and never ever put yourself in a compromising situation,” she added. “But once that is checked off the list, I think it’s really important for us to remember that someone needs us, and that your act of giving/helping/doing can truly become an act of grace once you get out of your head.”

Prince Harry has also spoken out in the past about his passion for volunteer work—something that’s practically in the job description for a royal. He’s supported (at least) a whopping 22 charities so far—and hey, volunteering together can be a pretty great date night.

She also said something that’s even more relatable than her New Year’s Eve resolutions: “‘I am self-sufficient and a go-getter, so often times I have to remind myself to take a moment to just breathe. My brain is always going, but at the end of the day because it is all stuff that I am passionate about, it’s easier to not feel exhausted as I squeeze it all in,’ she said.”

Prince Harry Gushing About His First Christmas With Meghan Markle Is Everything


Just when you thought you couldn’t ship Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s relationship any harder, Harry goes and says the cutest things about what it was like to spend their first Christmas together as an engaged couple—complete with the rest of the royal family.

ICYMI, Prince Harry is currently serving as a guest editor on BBC Radio 4’s flagship Today show. His interview with former President Barack Obama airs today. And as part of the show, BBC interviewer Sarah Montague took the opportunity to ask the fifth in line for the throne what it was like spending his first Christmas with his fiancée at Sandringham House, which is one of the private estates belonging to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

“Oh, it was fantastic,” Harry says when Montague asks how his future wife’s first Christmas with the in-laws went. “She really enjoyed it. The family loved having her there.”

The couple’s holiday plans were an especially big deal because Meghan was breaking royal protocol by attending; historically, the annual gathering has been limited to spouses only. So the fact that she even scored an invite to begin with, coupled with the fact that Markle and Kate Middleton looked like old friends in all the photos we’ve seen from the day, back up what Harry is saying about his family being happy to have her in attendance.

“Together we had an amazing time,” Harry continued. “We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running around with the kids.”

Can you just imagine what it would be like to be Markle in that situation? Last year she was trimming the tree with her “fairy god-daughters” in California. This year she’s hanging out with the Queen, a prince, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. What a difference a year makes!

Of course, as is the case for any couple who’s spending their first holiday together, Harry says there were “plenty” of family traditions he had to explain to his new fiancée. But as we’ve come to expect from the former actress, Markle totally rolled with the punches. “Every family is complex,” Harry said. “She’s done an absolutely amazing job. She’s getting in there, and it’s the family that I suppose she’s never had.” (Weeping.)

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's Christmas Day Outfits Are a Gift to Us All


Meghan Markle might be breaking royal protocol by spending Christmas with her fiancé, Prince Harry, but there’s one protocol she’s sticking to: dressing impeccably for royal outings. Meghan joined the royal family for her very first Christmas Day service, and she’s already proving that she can keep up with her famously fashionable almost-sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

The soon-to-be family members arrived for Christmas Day services at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, and the coats alone were probably enough to make the expectant crowd’s wait to see the royal family worth it (some of them had arrived at 2:30 A.M. to catch a glimpse!).

Meghan stepped out wearing a tan wide-collar Sentaler coat and very on-trend circular Chloé bag. She topped of the ensemble with a Philip Treacy fascinator-ish hat, leather gloves, and suede Stuart Weitzman boots.

Kate went super festive in a Christmas tartan Miu Miu coat embellished by a double row of brass buttons and topped off with a delightful fur hat. The $2,200 coat is, of course, sold out now, so a very merry Christmas to all you new Kate coat owners indeed.

Meghan Markle Joins Kate Middleton and the Rest of Royal Family for Christmas


Meghan Markle‘s first Christmas with the Royal Family is currently underway, and while we all sit around the tree in our onesies, she’s already packed in a full half a day.

The (younger) royal couples—Kate Middleton and Prince William, Meghan and Prince Harry—all took what looks like a gorgeous walk from Queen Elizabeths’s house to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene on the Queen’s Sandringham, England estate.

Extremely adorable was the fact that Meghan and Kate looked like they were best friends along the way, as they smiled and laughed together on the stroll to church. Meghan and her fiancé looked brilliantly happy together, too.

Prince Charles (William and Harry’s dad), Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, and the cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were all at church for the service, too. A crowd had been lined up since close to 2:30 A.M. waiting to get a glimpse of the family (in happy Christmas news, two proposals were made—and accepted—during the wait). Prince Harry and Meghan stopped by and chatted to a few of the people in line.

After church, everyone will sit down for a turkey lunch at Queen Liz’s place (birds from the estate, of course), and then watch the Queen’s Christmas address, because families support each other like that. (Gifts were already exchanged yesterday.)

Of course, this isn’t Meghan’s first holiday event with the royals: The festivities actually started almost a week ago. On December 20, she joined the family for a pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace (an event marred by the fact that Princess Michael rocked up wearing a racist brooch).

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Just Shared Their Official Engagement Photos


Meghan Markle and Prince Harry know how to take a good photograph together. Just look at how electric they looked at the Invictus Games back in September, or at the photo call they had in November after announcing their engagement. They’re two of the most photogenic people on the planet—and they’re in love, which makes for some pretty dazzling visuals.

So it’s only fitting the future Duke and Duchess mark their engagement with an official photo shoot. And because the Kensington Palace Twitter handle is A-plus, we all get to see some of the shots. “Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have chosen to release official photographs to mark their engagement,” the Palace tweeted early Thursday morning (December 21) before sharing these two gorgeous snaps:

Kensington Palace revealed the photos were taken by Alexi Lubomirski at Frogmore House, which is in Windsor, We’ll give you a few seconds to swoon over these pictures—because that’s exactly what we’re doing.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will officially tie the knot on May 19, 2018 in at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, but details other than that are sparse. “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry,” Markle’s parents told Kensington Palace about her daughter’s engagement. “Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy and passion for us parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan,” commented Prince William and Kate Middleton to the palace, as well. “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”

Meghan Markle Joined the Entire Royal Family for a Pre-Christmas Lunch With the Queen


Meghan Markle is well on her way to becoming a full-fledged member of the royal family: she’s already spent one-on-one time with Queen Elizabeth II and moved to Prince Harry’s Nottingham Cottage, next door to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s home on the Kensington Palace grounds, and now, she’s celebrating the holidays with her fiancé’s extended family.

According to People, Meghan and Harry joined Will, Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and more than 50 other members of the royal family for the queen’s annual pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. Harry and Meghan were photographed driving to the palace in a Land Rover shortly after Will, Kate, and their kids arrived in their own Range Rover. People reports that all of Queen Elizabeth’s four children were in attendance, as well as most of her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice, and Zara and Mike Tindall were all spotted at the palace. This was reportedly the first time Markle attended a lunch with the entire family at the palace.

QEII’s annual pre-Christmas lunch kicks off her multi-day Christmas celebrations, for which Markle will also be in attendance. The queen and her family will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Norfolk, about a three-hour drive north of London. According to People, they’ll spend Christmas Eve exchanging gifts at her Sandringham House country estate, attend church at nearby St. Mary Magdalene Church the following morning, then feast on a Christmas lunch at the estate. As Us Weekly previously reported, Meghan and Harry will most likely stay with Will and Kate at their own Norfolk estate, Anmer Hall, for the holidays.

Meghan’s inclusion in the queen’s Christmas festivities marks something of a break with tradition. In December 2010, one month after her own royal engagement, although Kate did attend the pre-Christmas lunch with the rest of the extended family, she was not invited to Sandringham House for Christmas Day celebrations.
