Leaving Netflix in September 2019: Say Goodbye to These 46 Movies and TV Shows


It’s almost time to bid farewell to summer—and along with it some of your favorite shows and movies on Netflix.

Has it been a minute since you’ve cried alongside the Braverman family on Parenthood? Well, you’ve got a little more time to reconnect with the whole clan before all six seasons of the show leave the streaming platform on September 25. Cult-favorite comedy Portlandia is also departing, so get in your laughs while you can.

A bunch of iconic movies are leaving Netflix, too, which is a bummer, though we know the streaming platform will never leave us without a million options. Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and the rest of the men of Magic Mike are leaving starting at the beginning of the month. Joining them are Gwyneth Paltrow’s Emma, a couple installments in the Fast and the Furious franchise, The Hangover, The Dark Knight, and Disney’s Mulan. That last one is a serious blow. Alexa, play “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera.

Body-Shamers Are Leaving Toxic Comments on a Photo of Kylie Jenner—Again


Kylie Jenner might be both a billionaire and a high-profile reality TV star, but she’s also a person—a person who’s currently facing a wave of derogatory and inappropriate comments from body-shamers on Instagram. While she’s been celebrating her 22nd birthday in Italy, Jenner’s also been sharing photos from the trip on both her personal account and the official accounts for her many cosmetics and skincare brands. In them, she’s sunning herself in a bikini, joined by a package of her skincare products. Trolls took the photo as permission to make comments about Jenner’s body—specifically, her butt.

Commenters rudely compared Jenner’s curves to a full diaper. “Time to change your diaper, baby girl,” one person said in the comments. “I think your diaper is full,” another commented.

The commentary only went downhill from there. Other users chimed in to question whether Jenner’s body is “natural.” “I remember when you looked like a surfboard,” one said.

One hero emerged from the toxic comment wasteland to set the others in place: “Comments like yours is [sic] what makes people want to do things differently with their bodies,” they wrote.

Of course, one kind comment doesn’t cancel out the damaging effects of several negative ones—and we’ve seen the movie before: Celebrity wears a swimsuit, celebrity decides to take a picture, body-shamers come out of the woodwork to throw in their unnecessary two cents. But frequency doesn’t make this cycle any more excusable.

Nothing about a picture of the media mogul in a swimsuit warrants the comments that body-shamers made (or comments about her body at all), and Jenner doesn’t owe anyone an explanation about procedures she may or may not have had, nor does she deserve gross barbs about her body’s shape on Instagram. If she wants to talk about her body—which she has—she will. Otherwise, let her be.

Leaving Netflix in August 2019: Say Goodbye to These 48 Movies and TV Shows


It’s that time again—the bummer of a day when we find out which of our favorite movies and TV shows will no longer be streaming on Netflix.

Come August, we’ll be saying goodbye to a lot of favorites. Get in one last good cry by watching Good Will Hunting, the movie that turned Ben Affleck and Matt Damon into household names (and Oscar winners for Best Screenplay). Come for the Boston accents; stay for the iconic Robin Williams “It’s not your fault” speech and the haunting Elliot Smith soundtrack. Also leaving Netflix are a bunch of scary thrillers like the Final Destination movies, David Fincher’s Zodiac, Poltergeist, and The Butterfly Effect.

Murder mystery Gosford Park is on the chopping black. Same goes for Bradley Cooper as a troubled chef in Burnt, Ryan Reynolds’s comedy Just Friends, and the teen vampire romance Beautiful Creatures.

'The Office' Is Leaving Netflix—and People Are Freaking Out


“Everybody stay calm! Everybody stay calm!” or “NO! GOD! PLEASE NO!” or “I don’t hate it. I just don’t like it at all and it’s terrible.”

We imagine that’s what Steve Carell‘s Michael Scott would say upon learning that The Office is leaving Netflix for NBC Universal’s as-yet-unreleased streaming platform. The good news is that Netflix confirmed none of this is happening until 2021, so you still have plenty of time to binge watch all the antics at Dunder-Mifflin’s Scranton branch.

The show, which aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013, has found a second, wildly popular life on Netflix. (However, Netflix doesn’t release its viewing numbers.) “I believe it’s the No. 1 most-popular acquired show on Netflix… there are millions of streams of those episodes,” NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt told New York magazine in September. “I believe that Netflix has helped make The Office extraordinarily popular, and more popular than it was when it was on the network. And they pay us a lot of money for it. If we knew how popular it was going to be before they made the deal, we would have asked for more money from them!”

“The Office is one of our most prized series, and we are thrilled it has found an exciting new home where generation after generation will continue to discover and rediscover Michael Scott’s most cringe-worthy moments, Jim and Pam’s will-they-or-won’t-they, and the incredible quirky ensemble that makes each episode a masterclass in comedy,” said Pearlena Igbokwe, President, Universal Television, said in a statement. NBCUniversal’s ad-supported steaming service is set to launch sometime in 2020.

Given the popularity of the show that helped launch the careers of people like Mindy Kaling, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and BJ Novak, people are freaking out about the news on social media. While it’s a bummer, we do applaud the excellent use of GIF reactions. Some social media users also offered alternate viewing methods for the show.

We’ll get though this together, everybody. Perhaps a fashion show at lunch might help ease the pain?

Leaving Netflix in June 2019: It's Time to Say Goodbye to Elle Woods


Elle Woods may not have thought getting into Harvard Law School was hard, but saying goodbye to her and the Legally Blonde movies on Netflix sure will be. It’s true, even the sequel—Legally Blonde: Red, White & Blonde—will no longer be available come June 1. So get your fill of Bruiser, Paulette, and the “bend and snap” while you still can.

Also leaving the streaming service this month are a slew of Disney movies like 101 Dalmations and The Fox and the Hound, the classic ’80s teen movie Pretty in Pink, both Kill Bill films, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and one of Ryan Reynolds breakout movies, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.

Leaving Netflix in May 2019: Say Goodbye to ‘The Notebook’ and Other Romance Favorites


Now is the time to catch up on all your favorite romance films on Netflix, because a lot of them won’t be there in May. And we’re talking classics: The streaming service has just announced that next month, it’s saying goodbye to favorites like Chocolat, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sixteen Candles, the OG West Side Story, and, devastatingly, The Notebook. This means the time to grab a bottle of wine and cry over Allie and Noah is now.

It feels like we just got The Notebook on Netflix too. The Nicholas Sparks classic arrived only in March, after briefly causing a stir on Netflix U.K. for having an alternate ending. Luckily, you still have about six more days to watch Ryan Gosling recite, “I want all of you, forever, every day,” over and over. It’s officially gone from Netflix on May 1.

This week is also the last chance you’ll have to watch the entire Jaws franchise, the first season of Bill Nye, the Science Guy, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, and the horror staple I Know What You Did Last Summer.
