Demi Lovato Isn't Here for the Speculation About Her Sexuality


Last week Twitter had a full-on meltdown when Demi Lovato was spotted holding hands with a woman, DJ-producer Lauren Abedini, in Disneyland. With Lovato’s relationship with UFC fighter Luke Rockhold newly finished, many people think Abedini is her new girlfriend—but that’s only speculation at this point. Lovato hasn’t said anything about Abedini or her specific sexuality—she’s only spoken in generalities—and that’s intentional.

In a new interview with Pride Source, the “Body Say” singer explains why she prefers to keep her sexuality private despite being such an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.

“I just feel like everyone’s always looking for a headline and they always want their magazine or TV show or whatever to be the one to break what my sexuality is,” Lovato said. “I feel like it’s irrelevant to what my music is all about. I stand up for the things that I believe in and the things that I’m passionate about, but I like to keep my personal life as private as possible when it comes to dating and sexuality and all that stuff just because it has nothing to do with my music. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is trying to get that soundbite and I am purposefully not giving the soundbite.”

That being said, she’s open to discussing her sexuality—on her own terms. Lovato says she answers “a lot of questions” people have about her in her new documentary, Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated, including some about her sexuality.

Of course, Lovato never has to address this issue if she doesn’t want to. Sexuality is a very fluid and complicated thing, and how people choose to deal with it is private and personal. That doesn’t change for Lovato just because she’s a public figure. It’s none of our business. Her happiness is the only thing that matters.

Lovato’s documentary debuts October 12 on YouTube.

Kim Kardashian Isn't Even Trying to Wear Pants Anymore


Kim Kardashian West is no stranger to the naked dress trend that’s shown up on every red carpet lately—or, hey, even the odd nude photo or selfie. But on Friday night, Kim showed up at the Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards foregoing pants altogether—a look that might even top that transparent plastic dress from earlier this summer.

Kim wore footless black sheer tights over a pair of black silky string panties. The tights came up right to her waist, leaving a few inches of bare skin underneath her super-cropped, extremely narrow bandeau-bra top. She finished the look with black leather blazer and clear plastic shoes to keep the sheer theme going (consistency is key).

It’s basically a fashion-with-a-capital-F version of the giant sweatshirt and tights you wear around the house in the winter when no one else is home and you’re too lazy to take your tights off after a long day. Except in this scenario, Kim actually left the house. And she left the sweatshirt at home. And, well, it’s Fashion Week.

All that black-on-black was the perfect contrast to Kim’s new white-blond hair, which, as her stylist Chris Appleton confirmed to us, is “not a wig.”

Interestingly, Kim’s little sister Kendall Jenner wore a very similar look Friday night to the Harper’s Bazaar Icons party: this time, a sheer black dress with a pair of black underwear prominently showing through. It was the token naked dress of the night, and definitely the not the first Kendall has worn. We sense some outfit coordination going on here.

An All-Female 'Lord of the Flies' Remake Is Happening, and the Internet Isn't Here for It

This week, it was announced that Warner Brothers would be remaking Lord of the Flies with an all-female cast, but written and directed by two men. And guess what? The Internet isn’t really down for it.

The story choice in particular is what is drawing much criticism, as Lord of the Flies is about a shipwrecked group of young boys whose social hierarchy quickly devolves into chaos and warfare. Because, as writer Roxane Gay wrote, “an all women remake of Lord of the Flies makes no sense because… the plot of that book wouldn’t happen with all women.” Screenwriter Gennifer Hutchinson also weighed in, saying, “A. This is a story about toxic masculinity specifically, so this seems tricky. B. I hope they have some women on the creative end.”

Which brings up another point of contention: the idea that there’s “such little interest in seeking out original stories about girlhood by women that you remake LORD OF THE FLIES with girls,” as SuperDeluxe’s Alex Alvarez tweeted.

The “goal in championing stories about/by women is TO HAVE NEW STORIES, new & different themes, characters, experiences represented in culture,” they continued. “It doesn’t mean replacing stories significantly ABOUT masculinity, about societal expectations 4 young men, male bonding, masculine toxicity.”

Laverne Cox Isn't Here for Society's Date Night Beauty Norms


Let us count the ways we love Laverne Cox: she’s a boss who, on top of being funny, smart, and an activist for LGBTQ+ rights, is casually breaking down beauty norms along the way. Back in May, that meant posting a heartfelt tribute to her natural curls on Instagram, and getting honest about the journey she’s been on to embrace them. And now, Cox is taking on one of the most insidious beauty standards in the book. In a new interview, she told the world that she’s not down for the pressure of needing to look “perfect” for a date. Meaning, she goes for powder and nothing else.

As Cox told Access Hollywood, “My whole dating [philosophy] is, I show up as Laverne. I don’t glam up. I give maybe a little powder for shine, and I’m like, this is it. Because the first few dates, you don’t know if they’re going to last or not.”

“I’m going to put the effort in once you’ve proven that you deserve all of this,” she continued, motioning up and down herself. “I used to, when I was younger. Now, it’s not about trying to make [dates] like me. I used to try and make them like me. Now [my dating criteria is], do I like you? Do we have anything in common? Are you into the real, authentic Laverne, stripped way down?”

Moment upfront: Of course, there’s nothing wrong with wearing makeup on a date if that’s what makes you feel ready to take on another, no-doubt-this-one’s-a-winner Tinder date. To each their own. If Nars’ Cruella helps you feel like your best self (raises hand), we’re solidly here for it. Still, it’s hard not to identify with the reality in her words: time and time again, it’s pounded into us that before a date, you’ve got to shower, shave, perfume, whatever, to put on a “desirable” image. Sh*t’s outdated, and Cox nailed it.

This Tweet Has Everyone Thinking Peter Kraus Isn't the Next 'Bachelor'


A huge portion of Bachelor Nation was annoyed after Rachel Lindsay gave her final rose to Bryan Abasolo. But the silver lining to this was Peter Kraus—sweet, amazing, perfect Peter—became an option for the next Bachelor. And fans really wanted this to happen! With his gapped teeth and his wine nights and his realistic love timeline, Kraus is the Bachelor America desperately needs but doesn’t deserve. I’m not kidding when I say #MakePeterTheBachelor became a battle cry just seconds after The Bachelorette ended.

But it looks like this isn’t happening. Mike Fleiss, the creator of The Bachelor (and, ironically, the producer of two Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes), tweeted a vague-but-pointed message Thursday (August 17) that seems to suggest Kraus isn’t our next suitor. “Do we really want a Bachelor who isn’t ready to settle down with a woman he loves? Hmmm. Not what #thebachelor is all about,” Fleiss wrote. See it for yourself, below:

Granted, this tweet doesn’t call out Kraus by name or confirm anything directly, but read between the lines. Kraus’ entire storyline this season was that he loved Rachel and was ready for a serious relationship—but he didn’t want to propose. Kraus needed more time, but Lindsay wanted a ring. This ultimately drove the couple apart.

The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are shows that sell a very particular type of fairytale—and that fairytale, typically, ends with an engagement. If Kraus isn’t willing to go there—or at least fake it, let’s be honest—then it probably knocks him out of the running. In this tweet, “settle down” is most likely code for “proposing”—something we know Kraus isn’t keen on doing after just a few weeks. Ergo, The Bachelor (probably) isn’t in his immediate future. Noooo!

People magazine confirmed this even more in its story about Fleiss’ tweet. The magazine spoke to a source who says, yes, Fleiss’ message is “absolutely” aimed at Kraus.

“Peter is every Bachelor producer’s worst nightmare: the perfect guy who cannot be coerced into proposing at the end,” the source told People. “The fact that no one could talk Peter into buckling under and just giving her the ring—and that he wouldn’t play along—absolutely enraged the higher-ups at the show. Including Fleiss, definitely. He is totally on their s— list forever, and there is no way they will reward him with a shot at The Bachelor. No way.”

It should be a crime to use “Peter” and “nightmare” in the same sentence, to be honest.
