Billie Eilish Is So Gen-Z She Didn't Know Who Hilary Duff Was

There’s always a lot of talk about millennials and baby boomers going tête-à-tête about who to blame for destroying the planet and ruining the economy, but the real chasm is the one happening between millennials and generation-Z. Just ask fans of Billie Eilish, who has emerged on the scene as a cultural icon for the 21st century youth.

In a recent interview with Nardwuar, the host gave Eilish a few gifts that were nostalgic of various pop culture icons or moments. The first present, which was received with excitement, was a miniature yellow submarine with tiny replicas of the Beatles attached. This one went over pretty well with the superstar, who exclaimed that she loves the Beatles. But it was a gift that Nardwuar gave her later in the interview which drummed up a bit of confusion for Eilish.

When Nardwuar gave Eilish a Hilary Duff sleeping bag, she appeared to be perplexed. “So, ‘Who is Hilary Duff? is the real question,” Eilish immediately inquired, to which Nardwuar replied, Lizzie McGuire, in reference to the early aughts Disney Channel original series starring Duff as the titular character.

It seems like everyone on Twitter who saw this Nardwuar interview was struck with the hard truth that the pop star really is that young, but there’s really no good reason to shame the 17-year-old for not having the same pop culture references on her mind as everyone else. At best, she just sounds a lot like that classic Vine in which a young man couldn’t remember the name of Duff’s Disney show.

This is also the same generation-Z pop star who thought the Spice Girls were a made up band until about two years ago. “I didn’t have cable growing up so I didn’t really watch TV shows on a channel,” she told Capital FM in the interview that revealed her unawareness of the Spice Girls. “I had DVDs of things, and I just rewatched them. So I never saw SpongeBob the show. I didn’t know it was a show; I thought it was only a movie.” Eilish would have been an infant when Lizzie McGuire, which aired from 2001 to 2004, was on Disney Channel, and she has also admitted that she did not watch much television growing up anyway.

But if Eilish didn’t know who Duff was, and she is an avatar of sorts for teens, it could be possible that there is an entire generation out there that remains unaware of the impact Duff has made on music (real Metamorphosis heads will always remember) and pop culture in general.

Duff, who managed to be one of the few Disney Channel stars to mature successfully and still maintain success and popularity with a television career (she currently stars on Younger), has yet to respond.

Hilary Duff Recreated Rachel McAdams' Breast-Pumping Pic, and It's So Good

Hilary Duff is no stranger to getting completely candid about the struggles of being a mom: She’s opened up about having a “hard as hell” pregnancy, shared her method for dealing with mommy-shamers, and shut down the Internet trolls who criticized her version of a “mom bod.” But Duff’s most recent Instagram tops them all.

Last month, a shot of Rachel McAdams posing for Girls. Girls. Girls. wearing Versace and her breast pump went viral. McAdams was praised by the Internet and heralded as a “true queen” for this empowering moment for moms everywhere.

So on Friday, Duff—who welcomed her second child last October—decided to get in on the fun and recreate McAdams’ iconic pic. She wasn’t decked out in couture, either; instead Duff’s pic featured her in a shower cap, coat, and white button-down top on her couch—along with a breast pump. She captioned the photo, “Am I doing this right?”

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and in this case, they’re totally right. The more celebrities normalize breast pumps and the journey mothers go through, the better.

Banks Violet Blair, who arrived October 25, 2018, is Duff’s first child with boyfriend Matthew Koma. Her son, Luca, is from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie. During her pregnancy with Banks, she also took to Instagram to shed light on the difficulties of pregnancy.

“Man…pregnancy is hard,” Duff wrote. “Giving love to all mamas who make it look effortless…. This journey is hard as hell and also incredibly special. Lovely to have a little life inside and to day dream of all the new adventures to come buuuut almost impossible to get my own shoes on..sick of getting up 9 times a night to pee and looking at this weird body in the mirror that is not my own at the moment. Women are so bad ass, this was just a note to remind myself and remind others how’s strong and beautiful you are! WE GOT THIS.”

Here’s to seeing more of our female celebrities getting refreshingly honest about motherhood in 2019.

Hilary Duff Just Welcomed Her Second Child—and Her Name Is Beautiful

A major congratulations is in order for Hilary Duff. The Younger actress just welcomed her second child, a daughter named Banks Violet Bair. (It’s Duff’s first child with boyfriend Matthew Koma. Her son Luca is from her previous marriage to hockey player Mike Comrie.)

Banks was born on Thursday, October 25, but Duff officially announced her arrival on Instagram last night (October 29). “Banks Violet Bair❤️ this little bit has fully stolen our hearts! She joined our world at home on Thursday afternoon and is absolute magic,” Duff posted alongside a photo of her holding Banks as Koma looks on with a smile.

See the adorable photo for yourself, below:

Duff announced in June that she and Koma were expecting a baby girl together. “Guess what guys! @matthewkoma and I made a little princess of our own and we couldn’t be more excited!!!!!!????,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. Koma made a separate announcement on his Instagram, writing, “We made a baby girl! She will be as beautiful and sweet as her mother… @hilaryduff another incredible chapter begins.”

The “Sparks” singer has been open about the good times with this pregnancy as well as the difficult. In July, she posted an incredibly transparent Instagram about her pregnancy frustrations that many mothers responded to. “Man.. pregnancy is hard,” she wrote. “Giving love to all mamas who make it look effortless… this journey is hard as hell and also incredibly special. Lovely to have a little life inside and to day dream of all the new adventures to come buuuut almost impossible to get my own shoes on..sick of getting up 9 times a night to pee and looking at this weird body in the mirror that is not my own at the moment. Hilary Duff Calls Out Paparazzo for Allegedly 'Hunting Her Down'

Though it can sometimes seem like celebrities live in a completely different world with its own set of rules, it’s important to remember that they’re still people and are just as entitled to their privacy and personal space as the rest of us. Hilary Duff attempted to get this point across over the weekend, when one paparazzo allegedly had been following her around for hours, making her feel preyed upon and “uncomfortable.” On Saturday she shared a video on Instagram in which she confronted the alleged photographer in his car and explained the situation in her caption.

“This guy has been at my [son’s] soccer game this mornin,g then followed me to my [sister’s] house and was basically parked in her [driveway] to get photos. Followed me to run errands,” Duff wrote. “This is not OK. I am [nine] months pregnant. When people say, ‘That’s what you get for signing up to be a celebrity,’ it honestly makes me sick. This is every day of every month, and it’s simply not OK. If a non ‘celeb’ (I’m sorry to use that word) was dealing with this, the law would be involved.”

In the accompanying video, the Younger star appears to have pulled up alongside the accused pap’s car in a parking lot to ask him to stop following her. “I’m nine months pregnant and I have the flu, and I’ve asked you once to leave me alone. Can you please stop taking my picture? You’re, like, hunting me down,” she tells him. He responds by saying he hasn’t gotten any photos of her yet. “It doesn’t matter. I’m just asking you to please leave me alone for the day,” Duff replies. “You’re, like, hunting me down.”

Amid his continued protests, she adds, “I feel very uncomfortable. Please, please leave a pregnant woman alone.” Missing every bit of the point, the photog retorts that he’s “lost [his] whole morning” following her around. “It’s not my fault!” she replies, and correctly so. “Please leave me alone. It’s the weekend, sir, please.”

Duff is far from the first celebrity to call out the paps. Kylie Jenner and Sarah Hyland both recently did so after feeling like their privacy had been invaded by photographers, and when photos surfaced of Bella Hadid hanging out with a friend inside of her own apartment last year, she tweeted, “Whoever thinks it’s OK to photograph into someone’s home and private space is straight-up sick, sad, and f*cked up.”

Hilary Duff Has an A+ Method for Dealing With Mommy-Shamers

Hilary Duff has zero time for mommy-shamers. The 30-year-old, who is about to have baby number two, recently sat down with InStyle to discuss motherhood, mommy-shaming, and staying positive in the age of the Internet troll.

Duff has a close relationship with her first born, Luca Cruz Comrie, and in the past, it’s been scrutinized in Instagram comments and online. “I’ve seen stuff on the Internet a couple years back when we were at Disneyland and I posted a picture of Luca and I kissing on the lips,” the Younger actress recalled. “People were like, ‘That’s disgusting.’” Six-year-old Luca, who is the only son of Duff and her ex, retired professional ice hockey player Mike Comrie, was only 3 years old at the time. “First of all, he was 3,” the former Disney Channel star stated. “Kiss your kids, and anyone who doesn’t like it can hit unfollow. Not interested in what you have to say.”

“People can be like, ‘Oh, you’re holding that child? He’s 6.’ Yeah, I swing him over my head, when his legs are tired I hold him—it’s a little hard right now—but yeah, I give piggyback rides. People just have all these crazy judgments, and I think it’s best to not listen and laugh it off,” Duff advised.

The soon-to-be mom of a baby girl has already proven she’s not one to sweat the small stuff. Duff, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend Matthew Koma, took time to address her “hard as hell” pregnancy on Instagram: She admitted that even though it’s tough to go through all those physical changes, it’s important to remind herself—and all pregnant women—that they’re strong and beautiful.

Hilary Duff Just Opened Up About Her 'Hard as Hell' Pregnancy

Hilary Duff is currently expecting her second child, and she took to Instagram this week to open up about her “hard as hell” pregnancy.

“The boobs are big the belly is big the body is big. Man.. pregnancy is hard. Giving love to all mamas who make it look effortless… this journey is hard as hell and also incredibly special,” Duff captioned a mirror selfie showing off her bare baby bump on Wednesday. “Lovely to have a little life inside and to day dream of all the new adventures to come buuuut almost impossible to get my own shoes on..sick of getting up 9 times a night to pee and looking at this weird body in the mirror that is not my own at the moment. Women are so bad ass, this was just a note to remind myself and remind others how strong and beautiful you are! WE GOT THIS! ?❤️???✨.”

Duff and Koma announced they were expecting via a pair of matching Instagram posts in early June. “Guess what guys! @matthewkoma and I made a little princess of our own and we couldn’t be more excited!!!!!!” Duff captioned her post. Since then, she’s given her fans and followers frequent updates about her pregnancy.

Not long after Wednesday’s post, Duff took to her Instagram Story to answer some fan questions.”We have picked out the baby’s name, which is super cool and relieves a lot of stress, because we agreed on it right away. I think we’re not ready to share, and we won’t until she’s born, just because we don’t really wanna hear people’s opinions on it. It’s a very personal choice,” Duff said in response to one fan who asked about her future daughter’s name. Congrats again, Hilary!
