Trader Joe's Packaged Vegetables Are Being Recalled Due to Listeria Risk

Attention vegetable-loving Trader Joe’s shoppers (isn’t that all of us?!?): some of the store’s packaged vegetables are being pulled off the shelves at the direction of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) due to a possible lysteria risk.

The recall impacts some packages of butternut squash, cauliflower, zucchini, and vegetable bowls sold under the Trader Joe’s brand as well as Green Giant, and Signature Farms, according to CNN. (At Trader Joe’s, the brand’s butternut squash spirals and zucchini spirals are specifically at risk.) The at-risk veggies were voluntarily recalled from a variety of stores by their manufacturer Growers Express due to “possible contamination with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes” at a factory in Biddeford, Maine.

In a company statement posted by the FDA, Growers Express said, “Growers Express takes issues of food safety seriously and is issuing a voluntary recall of select fresh vegetable products in an abundance of caution and in the interest of protecting its customers and end consumers. The fresh vegetable products include packaged varieties of butternut squash, cauliflower, zucchini and a butternut squashed based veggie bowl.” Currently there are no reported illnesses, the statement notes.

The statement also includes a chart where you can see all the states affected by the distribution of possibly-contaminated products and the specific stores they were shipped to.

So what exactly is listeria? The FDA defines it as a “species of pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria that can be found in moist environments, soil, water, decaying vegetation and animals, and can survive and even grow under refrigeration and other food preservation measures” that can cause a disease called listeriosis. The severity of the illness can vary, with symptoms like a fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, developing within a few hours of ingesting the contaminated food or up to two to three days later. More serious symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. “Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the Grower’s Express statement.

“The safety of our consumers is our first priority,” Tom Byrne, President of Growers Express, said. “We self reported the need for this recall to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and stopped production immediately after being notified of a single positive sample by the Massachusetts Department of Health. We are deep sanitizing the entire facility and our line equipment, as well as conducting continued testing on top of our usual battery of sanitation and quality and safety tests before resuming production.”

If you believe you have purchased a contaminated product, you can visit the Grower’s Express website for more information.

Prince William Was Asked About Meghan Markle's Due Date—and His Response Was Surprising

With Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s baby due literally any day now, everyone is eagerly awaiting news that the Duchess of Sussex is in labor. But when a royal fan asked Prince William to share any news he had about Baby Sussex‘s due date, he had a pretty surprising update for everyone. You would think Harry’s older brother would be in the loop, but it turns out the Duke of Cambridge actually has “no idea” when his niece or nephew will arrive.

According to Town and Country, William was asked if there was “Any sign of the royal baby?” during his solo trip in New Zealand. To which he jokingly responded, “I haven’t got my phone on me—I have no idea. You guys will find out before I do at this rate.”

William’s update came days after it was revealed that he and wife Kate Middleton secretly visited Harry and Markle on Easter. The Fab Four hung out at Frogmore House following the Easter service in Windsor on Sunday, April 21. (Markle was unable to attend church at St George’s Chapel as she nears the end of her pregnancy.)

Markle’s exact due date has been kept under wraps since she first announced her pregnancy in October 2018. She previously hinted the royal baby was due in late April or early May—and though many have speculated she was going to go into labor this weekend, it was announced that Harry would be attending the London Marathon to hand out medals.

We can safely assume Markle isn’t expected to welcome the couple’s first baby just yet, even though this could change at any given moment. Exciting times are ahead, folks.

Amy Schumer Cancels Tour Due To Pregnancy Complications: 'It Sucks'

Amy Schumer has never been afraid to get candid, so it’s no surprise that she’s being honest about her pregnancy struggles too. In an Instagram post this weekend, the comedian announced that she’s canceling the remainder of her stand-up tour to focus on her health after dealing with complications with hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that causes severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancies.

“Due to complications from hyperemesis I am not cleared to fly for the next couple weeks,” she wrote in her post. “I am going to cancel the remainder of my tour. Refunds are available at point of purchase.”

“The baby and I are healthy and everything looks good. But I am in my third trimester and I am still nauseous all the time and vomiting,” she continued. “I vomit mostly every time I ride in a car even for five minutes. I have a pretty good attitude about it and some days I feel good for a couple of hours. But mostly it sucks.”

Schumer added that she was disappointed this meant canceling the tour. “I wanted to push through and do my shows. Because I hate letting people down and I love stand up and money! But more than that I have to think about my health and the baby. I know you guys get it and people are like. Bitch are you ok? Take it easy but it’s still embarrassing to have to cancel.”

Schumer announced that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, were expecting their first child back in October. She, of course, broke the news in a hilarious way, posting a photo of her and Fischer’s heads photoshopped over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bodies (Markle’s pregnancy news had surfaced just a few days before). She’s kept the Markle humor coming, cracking that she’s excited about “competing with [Meghan] Markle every step of the way.”

Still, she’s since paused the jokes to address just how she’s been feeling and how hard it’s been. While nausea and morning sickness are common in early trimesters, hyperemesis gravidarum can last for some women throughout the duration of a pregnancy. Given the symptoms, it’s pretty understandable why Schumer would want a break from so much traveling.

Fans responded with messages of support, encouraging Schumer to take time for herself and the baby. “HG is the worst mama. Hang in there and take care of yourself! You are almost to the end!” one person reminded her. “A momma’s gotta do, what a momma’s gotta do. Hope you’re feeling better ASAP,” another wrote.

Did Meghan Markle Just Reveal Her Due Date?

In October 2018, Kensington Palace announced that Meghan Markle is pregnant and due in the spring. The Duchess of Sussex reportedly confirmed this herself to well-wishers at an engagement today (January 14) in Birkenhead, according to several royals reporters on site. Not only that, she apparently offered some insight about when specifically her royal baby is coming next season.

“For those who want to know about these things: Meghan told one lady in the crowd that she is 6 months pregnant and another woman that her due date is around April,” Chris Ship, the royal editor for ITV News, tweeted on Monday.

Emily Nash, the the royal editor for Hello!, corroborated this, tweeting, “Meghan has told wellwishers in Birkenhead that she is six months pregnant – due end of April/beginning of May! Lots of baby chat today!”

It’s been a whirlwind few months for Markle and Prince Harry. Their baby announcement came at the beginning of their royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga. This took them right into the holiday season, where they reportedly spent some quality time with the queen. Their engagement in Birkenhead is the couple’s first official business of 2019.

Markle hasn’t said much about her pregnancy to the public, as is royal protocol. She did, however, joke last month that she was “looking very pregnant” at an event. We love a relatable duchess!

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May [2018] and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” Kensington Palace wrote at the time of Markle’s pregnancy announcement in October. Let the countdown to the royal baby begin!

Ariana Grande Has Canceled Her New Year's Weekend Show Due to 'Health Issues'

Ariana Grande fans will have to wait until a little later in 2019 to hear her sing live: The “Thank U, Next” singer has had to cancel her New Year’s weekend show, scheduled for Saturday night (December 29), in Las Vegas. Tickets for the performance, which would have seated just 3,200 concertgoers, were reportedly selling for more than $1,000 each. According to TMZ, Grande has been battling bronchitis all week and is still working on recovering from it.

The scheduled concert would have been her first since her breakup with her former fiancé, Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson, in October and, preceding that, the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller. Both exes had a role in inspiring two of Grande’s newly released songs: “Thank U, Next” and “Imagine.”

On Friday, December 28, Grande herself put up a post announcing the concert’s cancellation: “Vegas, I’m currently working through some health issues and am beyond sorry I won’t be able to see u this weekend. I love u and so look forward to seeing u and making it up to u next year,” she wrote.

Instagram

“Due to unforeseeable health reasons, Ariana Grande has canceled her show at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Saturday, Dec. 29,” the venue confirmed to Us Weekly. “Guests are able to receive a full refund on tickets through their specified point of purchase.”

As of now, no makeup dates have been released, but Arianators won’t have to wait too long as her Sweetener tour kicks off in Albany, New York, on March 18. Until then, however, we’ll just keep watching her recent performances on The Tonight Show and at Billboard‘s Women of the Year event. Fingers crossed she feels better soon.

Meghan Markle Left Her Solo Fiji Outing Early Due to Security Risks

Meghan Markle managed to remain cool, calm, and collected in what might’ve otherwise escalated to a scary situation.

As reported by People, Markle was on a solo outing during her royal tour stop in Suva, Fiji on Wednesday afternoon. (Prince Harry was off exploring a nearby forest.) While visiting a market to meet with a group of local vendors to discuss the United Nations Women’s project “Markets for Change,” her security detail soon deemed the environment too unsafe for her presence and escorted her out after just six minutes. She was originally set to stay for about 20 minutes.

Her exit reportedly stemmed from crowd management issues, Kensington Palace confirmed to the Associated Press, as the market filled up with more people than the detail was prepared to handle. “It was hot, humid and uncomfortably busy and there were far larger crowds than expected,” an aide explained to The Daily Mail. “Meghan met everyone she was meant to meet and left. There would have been a lot of people who would have been keen to meet her but she did met those who had hoped to. On advice she was taken out due to crowd management issue.”

Prior to Markle exploring the markets, she spent the morning giving her first solo speech on the royal tour at the University of the South Pacific, where she praised Fiji’s commitment to higher education and reminisced about her own college days at Northwestern University. “As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university,” she told the crowd. “From the moment you receive your acceptance letter to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for, the lifelong friendships you make with your fellow alumni to the moment that you receive your diploma, the journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one. It was through scholarships, financial aid programs and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition—that I was able to attend university. And, without question, it was worth every effort.”

While Markle and Prince Harry’s royal tour still has a few more days ahead of itself, if you don’t see as much of Markle, don’t be too surprised. The duchess has apparently cut down on some of her appearances for the remainder of the tour, owing to her pregnancy. Everyone needs some self-care, even the royals.
