T.I. Says He Accompanies His Daughter to the Gynecologist to 'Check Her Hymen'

This week rapper T.I. went on the Ladies Like Us podcast with actress Nazanin Mandi and makeup artist Nadia Moham. They discussed music and family, but when the conversation turned to fatherhood things took an unexpected turn. The co-hosts asked the rapper if he’d had the sex talk with his daughters to which he responded that he’s not only broached the subject with them, but he takes his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, to the gynecologist annually to “check her hymen,” presumably to check if she’s still a virgin.

“Deylah’s 18, just graduated high school now and she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself,” he said. “And yes, not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.”

The rapper also admitted that he make sure she checks the box on her medical form that allows the doctor to share information with him. It sounds like the hosts think the 39-year-old is kidding, but then he continued adding details about their doctor visits.

“So it’s this one time we go, I think this might have been after her 16th birthday,” said T.I. “This is what we do… Usually, like the day after the [birthday] party, she’s enjoying her gifts. I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30.’”

“So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism,” he said. “He’s like, ‘Well, you know sir, I have to, in order to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this… so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know?’ ‘See doc? No problem.’”

As is common knowledge, there are ways to break your hymen without having sex. Some women are even born without hymens. And while the doctor tried to warn T.I. about this, it fell on deaf ears.

“So then they say, ‘I just want you to know there are other ways besides sex that the hymen can be broken. Like bike riding, athletics, horseback riding and just other forms of athletic physical activity. So I said, ‘Look doc, she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bikes, she don’t play no sports. Just check the hymen, please. And give me back my results expeditiously.”

The rapper then went on to say that, “As of [Deyjah’s] 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.”

What T.I. is explaining is often known as virginity testing, the gynecological examination of female genitalia to attempt to determine whether or not a woman has had vaginal intercourse. Which is not only faulty science—the World Health Organization has said, “[it] has no scientific or clinical basis. There is no examination that can prove a girl or woman has had sex, and the appearance of girl’s or woman’s hymen cannot prove whether they have had sexual intercourse, or are sexually active or not”—but can be damaging to the women who undergo it. So much so that as of 2018, the U.N. has called these tests a violation of human rights and a form of gender discrimination.

After the clip circulated, many on social media were outraged by T.I.’s admission, as you’ll see below. Head here to listen to the interview in full.

Kim Kardashian Says She 'Got in Trouble' With Kanye West for Letting Daughter North Wear Lipstick

Kim Kardashian seems like a pretty cool mom: Despite her busy schedule, she appears to spend plenty of time doting on her children, bringing them along for epic vacations, and ensuring they have plenty of time with the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner dynasty. But, there’s one thing she does as a mom that apparently infuriates her husband, Kanye West: She’s been known to let daughter North West, 6, wear lipstick from time to time.

Since her birth, North has followed in her mom’s stylish footsteps, often wearing pieces from her own wardrobe of designer clothes. She’s been spotted rocking a $750 Alexander Wang Marti Micro leopard-print shoulder bag to school (I mean, who would say no if that were sent to them?) and walked the runway at Los Angeles Fashion Week. And, on special occasions, she’s been spotted wearing bright red lipstick a time or two.

Kim’s been mom-shamed for her decision to let her young daughter wear makeup in the past. In 2018, little North was spotted with a red lip that Kim later revealed was part of Kim’s very own line. “She picked it,” Kim explained on Twitter.

But now, Kim says, Kanye has had enough with North’s makeup.

“She loves makeup but her dad won’t let her wear it,” Kim recently shared with E! News. “I think he had it, he changed all the rules. I’d let her wear, you know, she has a little red for Christmas, I’d let her wear a red lip, or I’d let her do one pop of something. I’d let her, if she’s wearing a black dress, a black lip.”

Kim also shared that she’s not the only member of the Kardashian-Jenner family that Kanye may have to worry about when it comes to giving their children makeup to play with.

“Kylie would give her all of these lip kits, so I kind of got in trouble for that,” she said. “So, it’s now no more makeup.”

However, Kim also shared that her eldest child can still “weigh in” on her mom’s fashion choices—so we’re sure to have peeks at North’s taste-making skills for years to come, lipstick or no.

Serena Williams Powerfully Opened Up About Missing Her Daughter While Competing

Serena Williams is a superhero in more ways than one: She’s a world tennis champion, an activist for equality, and a mother to almost-2-year-old daughter Olympia, whom she raises with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. But it’s not easy being a working mom, especially when you’re a highly visible pro athlete. As she competes in the U.S. Open this weekend, Williams shared in an on-court interview, per Forbes, how difficult it could be being away from her daughter during tournaments.

“I actually prefer playing in the day because I get to go home and see my baby,” Williams, the No. 8 seed and 23-time major champion, said on court after dispatching Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the fourth round. “I’ve been missing her the last few nights when I play.”

Although there won’t be a birthday party—Williams is a Jehovah’s Witness and doesn’t celebrate birthdays—Olympia turns 2 on Sunday, September 1. Williams reflected on Olympia’s birth and her own career since having her daughter.

“I think two years ago I had things attached to my arm, IVs, and it was a miracle that happened, having my baby,” she said, according to Forbes. “It was really a great day for me. Then it all went downhill. It all went downhill after that for a good five days. But I’m here, and I’m going to be reflecting on my opponent more than anything.”

Williams added that Olympia has been saying “By-ee” every day when the tennis great leaves for the U.S. Open, which lasts two weeks.

“It’s different,” Serena said, according to Forbes. “In the beginning she would really be upset when I left. And now she’s a little bit better. I think I’m a little more upset. But at the same time, she definitely still takes it a little hard. She’s still super young.

“You know, it’s hard. Sometimes my heart literally aches when I’m not around her. But, you know, it’s good for me, I guess, to keep working and just to all moms out there that it’s not easy. It’s really kind of painful sometimes. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.”

Once the tournament is wrapped, however, things to back to normal—and the two have plenty of time to hang together. Williams takes care of training in the morning and then be with her the rest of the day.

Hilary Duff Will Feed Her Daughter Any Damn Way She Wants, Thanks

Hilary Duff recently had a debate with her son, Luca. “He was like, ‘Boys are stronger than girls,'” Duff tells Glamour. “And I was like, ‘You’re wrong.’ And he was like, ‘Well their muscles are bigger.’ And I was like, ‘Men can’t do what women can do. We’re stronger. Eternally stronger. And it’s true.'”

Duff knows a thing or two about strength. On October 25, she gave birth to her second child (a baby girl named Banks Violet Bair). By March she was back on set, filming the sixth season of her hit show, Younger. While she considers the cast to be like family, spending 16 hours a day playing powerhouse publishing exec Kelsey Peters—and running around in Peters’ signature power looks and sky-high heels—would be grueling for anyone, let alone someone five months postpartum. But with the season premiering on TV Land on Wednesday evening, Duff got it done.

“Coming back from work so soon after having a baby is so hard, and I think women are the strongest working people out there,” Duff says. There are also a lot of logistics that go into balancing a full work schedule with caring for a newborn—and it was no different on the set of Younger. “I’m still nursing Banks. I’m getting to the tail end of like, ‘I can’t do this anymore, something’s gotta give!’ Pumping at work, bringing her to a nursing session, and juggling our 16-hour days. It’s fucking crazy.”

This unabashed honesty about motherhood—from opening up about having a “hard as hell” pregnancy, or getting real about breastfeeding—has become a signature of Duff’s, particularly on social media. In recent months Duff’s Instagram has gone viral for a recreation of Rachel McAdams’ breast-pumping photo shoot (in Duff’s version she accessorized with a shower cap that was nothing short of iconic), and has been flooded with photos of baby Banks. But for every woman who feels seen by Duff’s essay-length captions on pumping, or less alone when scrolling past a photo of Duff cradling her sick infant, there are those who object to her candor. You know the type: Internet mom-shamers who prefer perfect, filtered baby pictures to those that actually depict the realities of life with a newborn—and feel entitled to sharing their opinions with the world.

“I just saw a comment on my Instagram that was like, ‘Were you feeding your child solids while she was laying down?'” Duff says. “I’m like you know what, I’m going to feed my daughter how I want to feed my daughter. And if that’s laying down, or hanging upside down because it works for her, we’re gonna do it.” And this isn’t the first time Duff has received this type of feedback. In the past she was criticized for posting a photo of herself kissing her son on the lips, who was only 3 years old at the time. And while the rampant mommy-shaming stars like Duff are subjected to on social media can be irritating, Duff takes the high road, and leaves the clapping back to her friends. One of whom will, “go in so hard, he’s so sarcastic, I love it,” she says.

Because as Duff taught her son, women are eternally strong, and she’s far from an exception. Whether it’s balancing her shoot schedule with nursing, silencing the haters, or showcasing the darker underbelly of parenting on the ‘gram, Duff’s got this whole motherhood thing down. No matter what they might say in her comments.

Reese Witherspoon’s Daughter Is Now Officially Her Twin

Big Little Lies season two is just days away from premiering, and its stars all got together in New York City Wednesday night to celebrate. Reese Witherspoon, who produces the drama and plays one of its central characters, brought her daughter, Ava Phillippe, to the premiere, and their resemblance is wilder than last season’s jaw-dropping finale.

Phillippe joined her mother for a few photos on the red carpet, which show just how much she looks like her mini-me. Now 19, Phillippe is around the same age Witherspoon was when she shot some of her first films, like Freeway and Pleasantville. Phillippe arrived at the Big Little Lies premiere in a short black cocktail dress, with her blonde hair styled in casual waves.

Reese Witherspoon had her daughter when she was married to actor Ryan Phillippe, whom she co-starred with in the nineties classic Cruel Intentions. Phillippe started college last year, something that Witherspoon recently described as an emotional experience during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s weird when your children go away to college,” she said.”It’s hard. I might have gone into her empty room, laid down on her bed and cried when she went to college.”

Luckily, Phillippe was back from school just in time for the season two celebration, which was also attended by Zoë Kravitz, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Nicole Kidman, and yes, Meryl Streep. Streep pretty much made fans lose their minds when she decided to join Big Little Lies. She’ll play the mother of Perry Wright, Celeste’s (Kidman) abusive husband who, remember, died last season after Bonnie (Kravitz) pushed him down the stairs. The second season’s first trailer and these photos all but confirm Streep’s character will be stirring things up in a major way. The season two premiere is next Sunday, June 9 on HBO.

Actress Nikki Reed Gets Real About Breastfeeding Her 20-Month Old Daughter

Actress Nikki Reed welcomed her first child—a daughter named Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder—with husband Ian Somerhalder in July of 2017 and she’s been sharing motherhood moments on social media and beyond ever since. (Or at least since the couple unplugged for a month after Bodhi’s birth.) Like when she praised her husband for carrying around her breast pump at the Golden Globes.

Now, Reed is opening up about the fact that she is still breastfeeding her now 20-month old. “I often get asked how long I plan on breastfeeding. To be honest, I have no idea how long her and I will be on this journey together,” she wrote on Instagram, alongside a sweet photo of her feeding Bodhi. ” I follow her lead, and she tells me exactly what she needs. At 20 months she is only just becoming interested in food.”

Breastfeeding, sadly, can still be a contentious subject—one which people, both mothers and those who are not mothers, have a lot of opinions about. While Reed goes on to talk about her own experience with her daughter and blended baby foods (she says Bodhi did not like them) before deciding to skip to finger foods, she isn’t preaching or screaming about what she thinks everyone else should be doing. She is simply sharing her own story—and that’s great and, frankly, refreshing.

“Right now thats where were [sic] at, still breastfeeding and skipping right to finger foods,” she continues. “Also, in case you need to hear it again because I definitely did, whatever you’re doing you are doing it right! Every baby is on their own path doing things when and how they need to, and our job is to trust our gut, talk to other mamas and just go with the flow!”

Less judgment and more sharing when it comes to breastfeeding sounds like a great plan to us.
