Best Spring Trends for 2019 to Buy on Etsy

The other day on the way to a sample sale I was listening to Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings.” The song is basically an ode to her money (“I want it, I got it”) and I was trying to channel her rich bitch energy. Unfortunately I had to accept that just because there were discounts and just because I really, really, really want something (or lots of things), it doesn’t necessarily mean, “I got it.” More often then not when I’m really into a trend or in need of a wardrobe refresh, I definitely don’t just buy it. Instead I go find some alternative version of it for less on Etsy.

When someone compliments my outfit and I tell them it’s from Etsy, they always laugh. “I got it from Etsy,” isn’t inherently funny but I can understand why the thought that something fashionable could be found on Etsy is hilarious. The featured item on their homepage is currently a heart pin engraved with initials. Their tagline is “If it’s handcrafted, vintage, custom, or unique, it’s on Etsy.” They somehow have a pretty robust selection of divorce gifts. Etsy was never about fashion or trends; it was always about arts and crafts and slightly random and obscure homemade things. Ironically though, a lot of fashion’s biggest trends right now are pretty crafty too.

Look around and you’ll notice almost everyone is dressing like they’re back in middle school, fresh off the school bus from summer camp. Beaded bracelets, seashell hoop earrings and tie-dye sweatshirts are everywhere. Fashion editors are wearing conventionally unsexy prairie dress that wouldn’t look out of place at a elementary school graduation. Everyone on Instagram is wearing Blair Waldorf-esque padded headbands with cowboy boots, a look your mom probably dressed you in years ago. Unlike the tie-dye and crafty jewelry of your youth though, these new fashion trends are expensive. Proenza Schouler’s tie-dye collection ranges from $295 for a sweatshirt to just under $1,000 for a tie-dye dress. Roxanne Assoulin beaded jewelry will cost you a couple of hundred dollars and Prada’s padded headband retails for a cool $200.

A lot of these trends aren’t just nostalgic, but they’re also incredibly easy to hand make, which means there are lots of affordable options available on Etsy. And when the trend isn’t literally crafty, it’s vintage—and there you’ll find some seriously great vintage pieces for far less than on more fashion-forward sites. From vintage Dior saddlebags to handmade cowboy boots to cute little pearl hairpins, here are nine big trends for spring 2019 that you can buy right now on Etsy.

Winter Outfits for 2019 You Can Buy on Amazon

There are a handful of Amazon items that become Internet-famous—like that one winter jacket everyone from Upper East Side moms to your neighbors own. Some people love it, some people don’t—but odds are, they’ve all bought something on the site. I mean, there’s something incredibly satisfying about putting that new Timothée Chalamet magazine cover (just me?) and home cleaning products in the same cart. The one thing I personally never thought I would go to Amazon for, though, was my wardrobe.

The truth is, I’m an Amazon skeptic—I only got Prime a couple months ago. (Insert gasp here.) See, I spend most of my money on clothing, and I don’t really think of Amazon as a destination for fashion, despite the fact that so many brands have wised up and started selling their goods on there. That perception started to shift at the end of last year, though—the weather was getting colder, fast, and I needed some extra layers.

That urgency (and a desire to not blow my entire budget on one season) lead me to Amazon to pick up some winter essentials on a budget and time crunch. What I discovered was that there were some incredible finds on there from some of my favorite brands, from Dr. Marten’s platforms to Carhartt beanies to velvet headbands like the ones all over Instagram. I ended up with 12 solid items that have transformed my approach to winter dressing. So now I’m sharing the wealth: Shop the best pieces for your cold-weather wardrobe on Amazon, ahead.

Meghan Markle Wore a $35 Maternity Dress—and It’s Still Available to Buy

Meghan Markle has shown off an impressive sense of style since becoming the Duchess of Sussex. Even better, that impressive sense of style includes brands her loyal followers can shop for themselves. Sure, Markle often wears custom outfits that suggest she has Givenchy on speed-dial, but she’s also been known to mix in affordable pieces by & Other Stories and Aritzia. Now she’s added another one of our favorite wallet-friendly brands to her royal wardrobe with a dress that’s less than $35.

On Wednesday, January 16, the Duchess of Sussex visited one of her four royal patronages, Mayhew, in London. She arrived in a monochromatic outfit that included an off-white coat, maternity dress, and pumps. It didn’t take long for onlookers to ID her cozy sweater dress as H&M. The cost? Only $34.99.

This is the first time Markle has worn a piece from H&M’s in-house maternity line, MAMA. Moms-to-be who want to cop the dress are in luck: It’s still available on H&M’s website (for now, at least).

Lest you forget that Markle is a duchess—and that she can spend thousands of dollars on her wardrobe—she rounded out her outfit with some pricier pieces. Specifically, an Emporio Armani coat and Paul Andrew heels.

This is the second time in a week that the Duchess of Sussex has worn under-$100 finds for her public appearances. Markle chose another fan-favorite brand, Aritzia, for a visit to Birkhead on Monday, January 14. It didn’t take long for shoppers to grab her exact outfit for themselves: Her purple Babaton dress has already sold out.

Of course, Meghan Markle’s visit wasn’t just about showing off her excellent maternity style. She stopped by Mayhew, an animal welfare charity, to meet with volunteers and service animals.

Later this evening Markle and Prince Harry are expected to attend the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s Totem, which will be held in support of Sentebale. We aren’t expecting to see more H&M at the Royal Albert Hall event—it’s a black-tie affair—but if we know the Duchess, she’ll definitely bring more of the Markle sparkle to the formal event. Personally, I’m holding out for another halter dress.

Really, it’s not hard to see why. From her 40 foundation shades to her looks-good-on-every-skin-tone lip gloss, Rihanna has not only created a collection of quality products at reasonable price points (nearly everything from the brand is under $50), she also takes every possible shopper into consideration when formulating her line. No skin tone is forgotten or overlooked. Also, who doesn’t want cheekbones like Rihanna?

While—no exaggeration—you really can’t go wrong with anything from Fenty, the reality is you can’t buy it all at once. So over the past year, we’ve swatched, swiped, and tested our way through the best Fenty Beauty has to offer to distill down our top recommendations. Nancy Pelosi MaxMara Coat: Alternative Options To Buy Now

During a meeting at the White House Wednesday, photos of Nancy Pelosi emerged that set the internet on fire thanks to a five-year-old burnt orange coat, which—for reasons you’ll see in a moment—will henceforth be referred to simply as The Coat.

The Coat was such a thing, that director Barry Jenkins wrote a love letter to it via tweet. “And she knew exactly what she was doing wearing THIS coat on THIS day coming out of THAT room, placing THOSE shades on JUST so.”

Elsewhere, Instagrams like ‘@excellentcoatsonirritatedwomen’ gained thousands of followers overnight. Anthropomorphic Twitter accounts like Nancy Pelosi’s Red Coat and I Am Nancy Pelosi’s Coat were born.

The attention was so overwhelming, in fact, that MaxMara—the label behind The Coat—told us they’d be re-releasing it next year. But if waiting for The Coat isn’t in your plans, here are 9 styles to shop now that are highly similar, and will give you the same powerful vibe as Mrs. Pelosi strutting out of the White House.
