So Many Celebrities Are Dating Guys From ‘The Bachelorette’


The decision to date someone from Bachelor Nation makes sense, when you think about it. You can see all the red flags you’d normally notice on a second, third, or fourth date before you even meet the person—all while wearing sweats and drinking wine in the comfort of your couch. Oh, he blatantly lied about the girlfriend he has back home? Swipe left. He’s eating deli meats and doing pull-ups on door frames? Swipe left. He refers to himself as the Box King? Hard swipe left.

We all do this when watching The Bachelorette, myself included. But when you’re a hot, single celebrity, you can actually turn those fake swipes into something real. If a random person slid into Mike Johnson’s DMs after seeing how well he treated Hannah Brown, he might ignore them. When Demi Lovato does it, well, that’s different. (Just a hypothetical situation, of course.) By the time their dinner came around, Lovato had presumably watched several episodes of Johnson on The Bachelorette and had at least a rough idea of his personality. That’s more information to go into a first date with than most people get.

Granted, the pool of men who appear on The Bachelorette is not that deep. They’re hot, yes, but for some that’s where the appeal ends. This is where my metaphorical swiping model comes into play yet again. Instead of seeing your date criticize a stranger IRL for wearing “athletic shoes” to the beach, you can watch it on TV. (In all seriousness, that line was actually hilarious; Jordan Kimball was a riot this season on Bachelor in Paradise.) ABC already found out for you if the guys are looking for love or just spon-con. Female celebrities are simply reaping the benefits from that.

Some of these relationships have the potential to go the distance. Hyland and Adams are engaged and couldn’t be more in love. “That can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, World Series kind of stuff,” she posted to Instagram after he popped the question in July. So if it turns out that Hadid and Cameron, Johnson and Lovato, or Bilson and Viall are actually couples, they have a promising template to work with.

Wait, so was Chris Harrison really just a celebrity matchmaker this entire time? The mind absolutely boggles.

Hailey Bieber Wore a $57 Dress to Her Bachelorette Party


According to a leaked TMZ invitation, Justin and Hailey Bieber are just weeks away from celebrating their much-anticipated second wedding, following their courthouse nuptials last year. The bride already getting excited, celebrating her wonderfully wild bachelorette party in Los Angeles with friends. For the occasion, which included penis straws and her BFF Kendall Jenner, Mrs. Bieber wore a very bridal—and very affordable—white midi dress.

Her strapless ruched midi dress is from the fast-fashion label Oh Polly, and it retails for just $57. (It’s still online, and it comes in oyster white and peach colors.) She accessorized it with “BRIDE” statement necklace and a kitschy white veil—because it wouldn’t be a bachelorette party without either of those things, right?

Baldwin clearly just wanted to have a good time and let loose with her friends. According to a source who spoke to People, she wore the dress first to dinner at Ysabel, and then to party it up at Delilah. “Hailey looked stunning in a white dress and veil. The group was in a wild, happy mood,” the source said. “You could tell Hailey was very excited to celebrated with her friends. She was all smiles.”

It looked like things got raunchy in a very bachelorette kind of way. In addition to the penis straws, there were sex toys and penis candy necklaces that Jenner had reportedly picked up herself. She was photographed leaving a sex toy shop called Hustler Hollywood, per People.

The party seems to have put everyone in good spirits before the wedding, which is rumored to happen in South Carolina. “Justin and Hailey are having a wedding ceremony and party in September. Since they only had a civil ceremony, it’s very important to them to have a religious ceremony as well,” a source previously told People. “They want to wed properly in front of family and friends.” Now that fans have seen Baldwin in her bachelorette get-up, they’re probably even more excited for the full bridal lewk.

10 Stars Who Were So Close to Becoming the Bachelor or Bachelorette


The bait and switch. It happens more often than you think while executives for The Bachelor and Bachelorette are debating the next season’s lead. Choosing the lucky one to hand out roses each season is no easy feat, which is probably why ABC producers have plenty of back-up choices in case something goes awry.

“It’s always a very difficult choice. And people get angry no matter who we choose,” producer Mike Fleiss previously told Entertainment Weekly. “Really, you can’t look for 100 percent approval, you’ve gotta make your best decision in terms of story potential.”

Take this upcoming season, for example. Mike Johnson has been the obvious Bachelor front-runner for weeks now, but producers threw fans for a loop when it was announced Peter Weber, a.k.a Pilot Pete landed the job.

The Bachelorette Season 15, Episode 13 Recap: Now That's an Ending


When Jed arrives at the rose ceremony, he comes with his guitar in hand. Reader, I swear I screamed, “NO HE DID NOT” at the sight. “Talking’s hard sometimes for me,” he tells Hannah, before launching into a song with lyrics such as “we always knew it’s me and you” and “baby, time stands still for us.” Hannah loves it.

“I’ve always prayed for my future husband,” she says. She’s questioned why some relationships turned out the way they did, but now she knows it was all to lead her to Jed. “I have lived 25 years of my life without you,” he says, “and I don’t want to go another day without you in my life.” He gets down on one knee, she says yes.

“We did it!” Hannah cheers. “That’s awesome,” Jed mumbles.

Of course, that’s not the end of the story. When we return from a commercial break, we’re treated to a few behind-the-scenes home videos of Hannah and Jed together after the proposal. “I thought I was getting someone sweet and honest,” Hannah says. “And that’s not the case.” The day after the proposal, she reveals, Jed admitted that he had been “hanging out” with someone the week before he left for the show. He claimed he had broken it off, but they were never boyfriend and girlfriend. Hannah was annoyed, but she thought it was something they could work through. And then that People article came out.

“I love the person I got engaged to,” Hannah says. “I don’t know how I feel about this person.”

And so, the Bachelorette producers have arranged for the two to meet up in Los Angeles so she can confront him about it. Right away, Hannah asks what really happened. Jed’s version of events is this: He was hanging out with this woman, they hooked up a few times, and then went on a weekend getaway together because he “got a cabin for free.” They stopped by his parents’ home on the way back from the trip, but only because they lived near the cabin. He never “put a label” on their relationship or called her his girlfriend—and it’s clear he thinks that absolves him. Oh, and he was sleeping with other women during this time.

It gets worse: This woman threw Jed a whole-ass surprise birthday party that involved all of his friends and family, as well as a trip to the Bahamas (from her parents!) as a gift. “And you don’t call that dating?” Hannah asks, incredulous.

According to Jed, he told her he was recruited for The Bachelorette and was thrown off that she would still want to be with somebody who was considering going on a dating reality show. Hannah presses him, and he admits that, OK, he might have told her he was only doing it as “a music thing.” Plus, he says, he never thought he’d actually like the Bachelorette.

The Bachelorette Season 15, Episode 12 Recap: And Then There Were Two…


Of course, Tyler instantly charms the fam. “Tyler seems to be the real deal,” Robert says. Hannah’s parents tell her as much. “I think he has good intentions,” Robert says. “There’s so much about him I like,” Suzanne gushes. Their confidence in Tyler inspires Hannah to tell him she’s falling in love with him. The smile on his face at this news! My God. It’s like staring into the sun, or staring at a really hot guy smiling.

The family has to meet Jed the next day, but they’re skeptical. Tyler set the bar so high—how could Jed be better? (Answer: He cannot.) And Jed seems a little nervous as soon as he arrives, stumbling over his words and giving sort of rambling answers to their questions. When Robert asks Jed about his goals in life, he talks about his songwriting career (without mentioning, oh, how Hannah might fit into that). Then Robert asks Jed if he might be able to financially provide for Hannah (which, ugh, the patriarchy). Jed gives a vague answer about wanting various income streams, then mentions that he recently signed a deal to write a jingle for a dog food company. To him, that was a sign his career’s on the right track.

However, it’s Hannah’s mom who has the best shade. When she sits down with Jed, she comments that he’s been in Nashville “a while” without hitting it big. Later, she tells her daughter, “He has qualities.” Qualities! Not good, not bad, just qualities. I think Suzanne must be feeling very whelmed about Jed.

Ultimately, though, Suzanne says it’s Hannah’s decision. That said, she would pick Tyler because, I mean, she has eyes and ears. “I knew this was going to happen,” Hannah complains, sounding every bit an angsty teenager being told she can’t go out on a Friday night. “I’m telling you what I see as a mom,” Suzanne replies. “I want to see you with somebody that will love you like you deserve to be loved.”

Hannah’s dad tells her that Tyler was more direct with his answers. Hannah presses her dad to be more specific, so he complains that Jed thinks “the dog food jingle” is enough to provide for Hannah. LOL. Hannah points out that she plans on being successful, so it doesn’t matter whether or not Jed is the breadwinner. (Woo, Hannah!) Hannah’s dad, however, insists “the man of the house still has his obligations.”

The Bachelorette Season 15, Episode 11 Recap: The Men Tell All


We don’t find out who gets the roses, though—that comes next week. Instead, we go back to the studio for the rest of the Men Tell All special. Luke is invited out on stage first, to a smattering of applause. I could get into the specifics of every insane thing he says, but really it’s more of the same: His words were misconstrued, Hannah wasn’t giving him an opportunity to speak, blah blah blah.

“I don’t get to see anything that happens with Hannah on the other dates,” he says at one point. “I don’t get to see her straddle or mount or swap saliva with other guys. That’s not easy, and I wouldn’t want someone that I’m literally getting fitted for a suit to propose in and I’m finding out that the night before my one-on-one time with her she’s having sex. And that’s not something I want in a future wife.”

Every time Chris asks a question, Luke takes an excruciating amount of time to answer. But the dead air doesn’t make his responses any better—he still keeps spouting the same bullshit. Luke is willing to admit he was arrogant…but not much else. “If I could go back, I wouldn’t change a thing,” he says. (Until exactly one commercial break later, when he walks that back: “Obviously, if I could go back I would change a lot.”)

It’s all very bad (and annoying that he’s even given a platform for this long), but it gets worse when Luke says he felt like he was on a “rescue mission” for Hannah. At that, Devin comes onto stage unannounced. “My blood has been boiling,” he tells Luke about watching from backstage. “There are men who want a strong, independent woman. And there are men who want a woman they can control. I feel, right now, that you you are the man that wants to control a woman so you can feel better about yourself. I’m sorry but that’s not a man.”

I’ve been watching The Bachelorette for a long time, and I honestly can’t remember seeing a contestant call out another dude so plainly for being misogynistic. It’s incredible—made even more surprising by the fact that Devin wasn’t known for being a particularly outspoken member of the cast this season. “The only person who needed rescuing was Hannah from you,” he says before leaving the stage.

Luke replies, “The last thing that I want and the last thing I’ll ever do is control a woman.” But then immediately says, “Although a man is supposed to lead and guide a woman in a relationship.” Reader, I gasped.

When the rest of the guys—minus Peter, Luke, and Jed—join from backstage, they immediately take Luke to task. Mike says it’s clear Luke has learned nothing and calls him a narcissist and misogynist. “I think your future wife is going to be a prisoner of you if you don’t learn how to change,” he says. Even sweet, doe-eyed Connor tells Luke to fuck off. “You’re a liar, manipulator, controlling, and you honestly are a psychopath.”
