Serena Williams Makes Her First Appearance Since Giving Birth at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards


Serena Williams has been nothing short of ecstatic when it comes to sharing every aspect of her life as a new mom. The only thing that can even come close to matching that excitement? Apparently, it’s Gigi Hadid.

In her first public appearance since giving birth to daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. on September 1, Williams stepped out at Glamour‘s 2017 Women of the Year Awards to introduce honoree Hadid. “Gigi, you’re one of the few people on this planet I would leave my baby for one night,” the tennis champ told the packed crowd at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on Monday night.

The feeling, naturally, is mutual. “Serena, I just want to say you have been such a beautiful light in my life for so many years, and I can’t tell you how happy I am to call you my friend.” Hadid said after she took the stage to accept her award. “I love you so much, so thank you.”

And while this is our first glimpse of the new mom in person, Williams has been relatively visible on social media over the first two months of Alexis’ life. The athlete, who posted frequent updates throughout her pregnancy, has been equally vocal now that her daughter has made her world debut about everything from buying diapers for the first time to her hopes and dreams for her baby girl, detailed in an emotional open letter.

Serena, might we request some social meeting documentation of little Alexis’s first time meeting her Auntie Gigi, too?

Serena Williams Is Really, Really Excited About Buying Diapers for the First Time


Serena Williams, the greatest athlete in the world, and her fiancé Alexis Ohanian welcomed a baby girl, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., on September 1. Throughout her pregnancy, Williams was extremely open about the journey—accidentally revealing her baby bump on Snapchat, documenting her “baby 101” class, and writing sweet letters to Alexis Olympia on Instagram.

So, it should be no surprise that Williams will be just as open about life as a new mom. Just yesterday, she took to Twitter to share her experience buying her first bag of diapers. While this will likely become less exciting as the months progress, she couldn’t contain her excitement during this first excursion:

“Today I bought my first bag of diapers,” she wrote. “I felt so grown picking out the bag. I may have even looked around hoping someone saw me. Haha”

Back when Williams was expecting, she spoke to Vanity Fair about how surprised and excited she was that she was becoming a mother. “It just doesn’t seem real,” she said. “I don’t know why. Am I having a baby? If you would have told me last year in October or November that I would have a baby, not be pregnant but have a baby, I would have thought you were the biggest liar in the world. This is kind of how I am right now. This is happening sooner than later, and it’s going by so fast.”

She then added, “I don’t know what to do with a baby.” We think she’ll be just fine: Anyone who enjoys going to the store and buying diapers that much is basically Super Mom.

Serena Williams Just Shared Another Adorable Photo of Daughter Alexis Olympia


As if we weren’t already excited enough to see the first photo of tennis champ Serena Williams and fiancé Alexis Ohanian’s beautiful baby girl, we were just gifted with another one. Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. was born September 1, but we were able to catch the first glimpse of her about two weeks later on social media when Williams posted photos and a video of her journey to becoming a new mom. The new parents even started an Instagram account for their newborn—and, unsurprisingly, it already has more than 21,000 followers. (Apparently it helps when your mom is the greatest athlete of all time, and your dad is Reddit’s cofounder).

On Friday evening, her parents posted a new photo on their daughter’s account. This time, Alexis Olympia is wearing a onesie that says “Smart and Strong like my Mama,” as she holds her arms up. The caption says, “Biceps ??.”

She has some amazing parents, after all—and her mother’s demonstrated again how strong she is recently, when she stood up against racist comments from a follow tennis player before Alexis Olympia was even born.

Thankfully, the rest of Williams’ whole pregnancy experience wasn’t entirely bad. As the incredible athlete got ready for her daughter’s arrival, she shared her preparations on social media: everything from Snapchatting her baby classes to asking Twitter for pregnancy advice.

A few months ago, Williams shared a letter to her baby in honor of her fiancé’s birthday: “My Dearest Baby, You gave me the strength I didn’t know I had. You taught me the true meaning of serenity and peace. I can’t wait to meet you. I can’t wait for you to join the players box next year. But most importantly, I am so happy to share being number one in the world with you…. once again today. On @alexisohanian bday. ? from the world’s oldest number one to the world’s youngest number one. -Your Mommy”

With all the love these new parents are showering on their little one, we’re sure it won’t be long before a new pic pops up (we’re ready for it!).

Serena Williams Gives Birth to a Baby Girl


Serena Williams has a lot to celebrate in her life: She’s the world’s greatest athlete, she gets paid, she found love in a hopeless place (that would be Reddit), she can make a $50 Zara dress look designer, and she’s broken so many world records you’d think there wouldn’t be any left. Now, she officially adds another accomplishment to the list: new mom.

Williams and her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, have welcomed a baby girl, according to Chris Shepherd of WPBF 25 in West Palm Beach, Florida. No word yet on the baby’s name, but she reportedly weighs 6 pounds, 13 ounces and “mom and baby [are] doing well.”

Williams’ friend, THE Beyoncé, even congratulated the tennis pro on Instagram shortly after the announcement:

Ever since she accidentally revealed her baby bump on Snapchat (as you do), Williams has been open about her pregnancy with her fans, even turning to her Twitter followers for advice on how to turn over at night and hilariously documenting her “baby 101” class on Snapchat.

Williams (and her bump) also posed nude for the legendary Annie Leibovitz for the cover of Vanity Fair; in the accompanying interview, she revealed how much the pregnancy took her by surprise. “It just doesn’t seem real. Serena Williams' Pregnancy Cravings Are Simultaneously Surprising and Totally Not


Greatest Athlete in the World Serena Williams happens to be pregnant, and as with many pregnant women, she is currently experiencing The Cravings. (The severity and intensity with which I’ve heard they occur merit the capital letters, of course.) I don’t know much about these, but I have heard that these can involve pickles or ice cream or pickles and ice cream, or other foods and combinations thereof that non-pregnant people might find…interesting.

In the case of Williams, the cravings have apparently gotten real, despite her statements to the contrary earlier in her pregnancy, which apparently, she’s very much been enjoying.

“I have been really fortunate and I have had a really good pregnancy, and everything has just been really good,” Williams told E! in July. “Sometimes I am walking in my house, and I’m like, ‘I really like being pregnant.’ I never thought I would say that. I am definitely [the type] that enjoys it.”

In the same interview, she said she hadn’t been super crave-y:

“I don’t have the cravings,” she said. “So I am a little disappointed with that. But I am OK with it because I feel like, maybe if I had the cravings, I would have a tougher pregnancy.”

But apparently they’re here now, and she sent her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, out into the night to secure the supplies. He Insta’d his little Publix-stravaganza, and it’s pretty great.

“It’s Friday night, I’m at Publix, going shopping ’cause my fiancé has cravings. I was told there would be cravings. I was not told they would be these,” he says in the video.

The purchases? No ice cream here: We’re talking zucchini, asparagus, and artichoke.

Williams said in that July E! interview she’d been eating healthier than normal during her pregnancy. “I have just been trying to eat healthy and stay fit and definitely eating healthier than I normally do. It’s pretty backwards,” she said, adding that she was really into the veggies and greens.

The body wants what it wants, you know?
