Love Is Blind Has Been Renewed for 2 More Seasons: Details

Netflix’s viral reality sensation Love Is Blind has been renewed for two more seasons, Netflix confirmed on Tuesday, March 24. The Circle has also been renewed for two more seasons, while the music competition series Rhythm + Flow was picked up for an additional cycle. And get this: Tidying Up‘s Marie Kondo is getting a brand new show, Sparking Joy.

Love Is Blind premiered on Netflix in February 2020, and it didn’t take long for the series to take off. The show’s premise is wild: Men and women go on a series of blind dates while sitting in “pods” where they can’t see the person they’re talking to. Eventually contestants narrow down their options until they’ve found the One. Then they get engaged, meet face-to-face for the first time, and spend the next few weeks deciding whether they’re ready to walk down the aisle.

“It’s been incredible to see Netflix members everywhere respond to the raw, authentic stories of real people and real stakes,” said Brandon Riegg, the V.P. of nonfiction and comedy specials at Netflix, per The Hollywood Reporter. “We pride ourselves on creating a favorite show for any taste, and we’re thrilled fans embraced all of these series with such enthusiasm and shared passion. We look forward to sparking more joy for our members.”

Meghan Markle Just Renewed the Trademark for The Tig

Meghan Markle has been busy lately, to say the least: She casually guest-edited the September issue of British Vogue while on maternity leave—and then came back last week from said maternity leave wearing pieces from a capsule collection of workwear she designed for charity. She’s been dedicated to having passion projects to call her own (in addition to her official royal duties, of course), and now people are speculating there might be something else in the works. According to The Sun, Markle’s business manager, Andrew Meyer, recently filed to renew the trademark for The Tig, the lifestyle blog she started in 2014 as a “hub for the discerning palate—those with a hunger for food, travel, fashion and beauty.” She shut it down in 2017, just a few months before meeting Prince Harry.

Renewing the trademark, which was done through a company called Frim Fram, means that she gets to keep the rights to The Tig’s name until 2021. There’s one other twist to the news as well: The Sun reports that Frim Fram also lists another website under its trademark umbrella called Tigtots. (Hmm!)

This, of course, leads to many questions: Why does she want to keep rights to the name of a blog that’s no longer active? Is she planning to relaunch the blog in a semi-royal capacity? Is there going to be a Tig aimed at parents? What is happening?!

“It’s fascinating Meghan’s business manager has ensured she keeps The Tig for a few more years at least,” a “royal insider” told The Sun. “Of course it’s understandable she wouldn’t want an entrepreneur using the name without her involvement. But given her desire to be a different type of royal—pushing her own causes using digital and social media—it’s not out of the question she’d think The Tig could play an important role.”

Hopes can’t climb too high for now, however: Markle’s own spokeswoman told The Sun that the renewal was purely for protective purposes: “The lasting trademark is to prevent false branding, to avoid others purporting to be the Duchess or affiliated with her.”

Only time will tell what’s really going on, but it’s not exactly uncommon for celebrities to take protective steps like this: Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner reportedly trademarked their kids’ names recently. Whether it’s the Kardashian-Jenner dynasty or the House of Windsor’s, some extra legal protection is never really a bad thing.

This Is Us Just Got Renewed for Three More Seasons

This Is Us fans, we have some good news for you: The Pearson family drama is officially returning to NBC for at least the next three years, the network announced on Sunday (May 12). This means the show will, at minimum, run for a total of six heart-wrenching seasons, so you better start buying your tissues in bulk.

“In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of This Is Us, and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment, shared in a statement on Sunday. “A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast, and crew who reach new heights every week with the show’s inventive and compelling storytelling.”

Of course, it’s no huge surprise the series would get such resounding support from the network. After all, it’s continuously been one of NBC’s highest-rated shows, and it’s won more than a few awards. This Is Us‘ trophy collection to date includes two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, three Emmys; and three AFI Awards for Program of the Year.

Of course, NBC execs weren’t the only ones celebrating the wonderful news of the show’s renewal. Following the announcement, series creator Dan Fogelman tweeted, “Three years ago, we were live tweeting the premiere of our TV show, hoping someone, anyone might watch…Today our friends at @nbc picked up #ThisIsUs for THREE more seasons, bringing us to six.”

In a second tweet, Fogelman added, “It is an amazing show of support, and it due to the hard work of the 300+ talented, kind people who have devoted the last three years of their professional lives to our show.”

He even poked fun at Jon Huertas’ character Miguel saying, “It’s also due to our impassioned, dedicated fans. Some days you guys hate Miguel, some days you guys love Miguel, but we ALWAYS love you. Except for Miguel, who takes it day by day. Congratulations to all involved. We can’t wait to get back to work.”

As for what’s next for the Pearson family, we’ll just have to wait and see: Season four of the show isn’t expected to drop until the fall. However, the show did leave us with a few hints at the end of season three—and a new trailer has just dropped to give us a preview of what’s come since then.

As series star Mandy Moore wrote on her Instagram post with the trailer, “We are all BEYOND excited to share the good news that we have been renewed for 3 MORE SEASONS! Obviously that means we have a lot more laughing, crying, healing, growing and more to do together. None of this would be possible without your unwavering support from episode 1 and our entire TIU family is unbelievably grateful. So buckle up, we’re just getting started!! #thisisus”

There’s a lot of ground to cover over the next couple of seasons, and for fans wishing the show would just keep going forever, there is some consolation. As NBC Entertainment co-chairman Paul Telegdy told reporters on Sunday, “We are keeping it open for right now.” So if the ratings are still great, and the cast wants to do another season, well…it doesn’t seem out of the question.

In the meantime, here’s to the Pearsons—we can’t wait to have them back.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Just Got Renewed for Two More Seasons

TGIT lovers, rejoice: Grey’s Anatomy just got renewed for two more seasons, Deadline confirmed on Friday, May 10. This makes the hit ABC series the longest-running medical drama in TV history, edging out ER, which previously held that title.

The fate of Grey’s Anatomy has been up in the air for a while. In September 2018, Ellen Pompeo worried fans when she told Entertainment Weekly she was “looking for a change.” “I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any kind of formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories we can tell,” she said at the time. “It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change.”

But it looks like Grey’s Anatomy is offering Pompeo enough variety to keep her on board for at least two more seasons. She made history last year when it was announced she inked a $20 million deal for the 15th and 16th seasons of Grey’s—making her the highest-paid actress on dramatic television.

Pompeo revealed to Entertainment Tonight in May 2018 that she “caught a little flak in certain areas ” for talking about her salary. Even still, she has no regrets.

“The thing that’s been more meaningful is the women who have found it empowering and helpful,” Pompeo told ET. “I can’t tell you the amount of women who have approached me and just want to hug me and thank me for the audacity to be bold and maybe even a little crass, but authentic and explain my journey and my shortcomings, as well as my successes—has made it all worthwhile.”

“I’m 48 now, so I’ve finally gotten to the place where I’m OK asking for what I deserve, which is something that comes only with age,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter about originally finalizing the deal. “It’s my show; I’m the number one.”

Twitter Is Divided About Netflix's *Insatiable* Getting Renewed for a Second Season

The show is really living up to its name, isn’t it? Netflix has renewed its divisive comedy series Insatiable for a second season, according to a press release.

The series, which stars former Disney Channel star Debby Ryan in the leading role, follows a plus-size, unpopular high schooler nicknamed “Fatty Patty” who loses a significant amount of weight over a summer (from having her jaw wired shut), and when she returns for the new school year, seeks revenge on everyone who’s ever been mean to her. Upon its release, Insatiable generated a significant amount of controversy, with many viewers accusing it of fat-shaming. The use of a fatsuit in flashback scenes was also widely contested.

Despite the backlash the show received, Ryan believed the show succeeded in what it set out to do, and that the fatsuit was an integral part of developing Patty’s identity. “There was a point where [the showrunner] and I are like, ‘If at any point this is funny, if at any point people laugh, we’re not doing it.’ We’re not doing the show that we’re trying to do. We’re just trying to portray an origin story. We’re trying to showcase that,” Ryan old Teen Vogue last month. “We knew that this conversation needed to be had. We knew that this societal brokenness needed to be addressed, but we didn’t know how badly it needed to be addressed. My friend, a few days before the trailer hit, in reference to something else, said, ‘The size of the reaction is the size of the wound,’ and it stayed with me.”

Unsurprisingly, the social media reaction has been just as divisive for the show’s renewal. Below, see the split reactions.

The new season is set to debut in 2019.

'Outlander' Has Officially Been Renewed for Seasons 5 and 6

Fans of Outlander can rest easy: “Droughtlander” is almost over. Starz announced on Wednesday, May 9, that the fourth season of the hit period drama will return in November 2018. The good news doesn’t stop there, either: The show has officially been renewed for seasons five and six, as well. Cut to me sweating bullets over the saucy sex scenes to come between Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan).

“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries, and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a press release.

Outlander has been a runaway hit for Starz. Based on the novel series by Diana Gabaldon, the show centers on a 1940s woman, Claire, who travels back in time to the eighteenth century and falls in love with a man named Jamie. The only catch, however, is that she also has a husband in her present day: Frank (Tobias Menzies).

That’s the basic synopsis of season one, but the story has advanced quite a bit since then. (Spoiler warning!) Frank actually died in a car accident during season three, and Claire returned to Jamie in the eighteenth century only to find that he’s remarried. A plot to pay off his current wife ended up with Jamie’s nephew Ian being kidnapped by pirates. Jamie and Claire saved him—only to then shipwreck in colonial Georgia, which is where season four will pick up.

Outlander is quite famous for its sex scenes, but Balfe told Glamour last year the show isn’t as steamy as people think. “It’s funny, because there’s probably less sex in our show than people think,” the actress told us. “It’s just when we do it, we try to empower these two characters to represent this metaphysical and all-encompassing love, so we get branded as ‘It’s so sexy!’ But if you look at the amount of episodes that it features in, it’s not in every single one.”

Regardless, additional seasons of Outlander is great news. At the very least, this means more scenes with Jamie’s signature smolder.

Is it November yet?
