Vintage Jeans Etsy Shops: Where to Buy the Perfect Pair

Etsy is where you go to find all the vintage goods from the comfort of your own home. A midcentury-modern teal couch? You can find that on Etsy. The vintage prairie dress of your dreams? Also Etsy. The perfect pair of vintage jeans? Yep, you guessed it: Etsy.

The marketplace has become a destination for secondhand denim in particular. Etsy has turned local shops like Passport Vintage into online go-tos. The appeal is obvious: When you walk into a thrift store, you’ll normally find a limited selection of jeans, in only a couple of sizes and washes. With Etsy, you can tailor your search by brand, era, inseam, waistband—whatever you’d like. Sure, you can’t try them on immediately, but plenty of sellers will make the virtual shopping experience as smooth as possible, providing detailed measurements and descriptions to give you a sense of how they might fit before you place your order.

Type in “vintage jeans” on Etsy, and you’ll get more than 77,000 results. To help you sort through all the goodness, we’re highlighting seven of our favorite denim sellers on the site right now, plus the best pairs to scoop up before they sell out.

7 Women On The One Pair Of Jeans They’ll Never Toss

I will never forget when I discovered jeans that actually made me feel good about myself.

I was visiting Spain as part of a 10-day student exchange program when I walked into Zara for the first time. (Mind you, this was 12 years ago, so it wasn’t quite the global fast-fashion giant it is today.) I felt like I, a 16-year-old first-gen kid from Nebraska, was stepping into the closet of a stylish, jet-setting friend—one who maybe didn’t go through the teenage phases and fads I was at the time. At that point, I was in full-fledged “prep” mode, reaching for my ripped flared jeans and cotton polo from Hollister on the daily. But that trip to Zara wound up being a revelation—it’s where I found the jeans that changed it all.

The jeans in question were skinny cut, something I hadn’t ever seen in American stores. They were the perfect wash: mostly on the darker side, with strategically-placed patches of fadedness along the front. And, in keeping with the trends of the time, they were low-rise. But I didn’t feel self-conscious in them because they actually fit—an entirely new phenomenon for me. Though I was relatively thin, I had wide hips, thick thighs, and a big butt that made shopping for denim an absolute nightmare. (And it remains a generally unpleasant experience tbh.)

I still own those Zara jeans, even though they’re a bit too big for me lately. But I can’t toss them out. They encapsulate so much more than just being the perfect pair of jeans. I picked them up on my first trip to Europe, when my lifelong love affair with Spain—and eternal sense of wanderlust—began. I’ve had my heart broken in those jeans. I’ve stayed up dancing until 3 a.m. in those jeans. They accompanied me from my childhood home to my college dorm room to my first apartment and beyond. The memories are simply too numerous to count.

I wanted to find out if other women had developed similar connections with a pair of jeans. And as it turns out, many of us have: Below, seven women recount their experiences of finally finding that perfect denim they can’t let go of—even as trends come and go, and their lives change over time.

Jenna Dewan Tatum Did What Any of Us Would If J.Lo Sent Us A Pair of Boots

The most underrated part of being a celebrity is probably getting gifts from other celebrities. Everyday is basically a holiday, with the constant flow of packages from friends sharing their new collaborations, brands, or projects—all waiting to be unboxed. Jenna Dewan Tatum received a particularly epic surprise this week from none other than Jennifer Lopez, and had an appropriate level of chill about it.

The actress and dancer was delighted to get a pair of knee-high, lace-up boots from J.Lo’s collaboration with Giuseppe Zanotti. And when you get a box from J.Lo in the mail, you must document it in the most epic fashion. And so, as soon as Dewan Tatum opened it up, she immediately went to her closet, changed her outfit, and busted out the Kira Kira. (So, she’s basically us every time our online orders finally arrived.)

“Only @jlo can make a girl drop everything, put her favorite bodysuit on and take a spontaneous random picture in her closet using Kira Kira,” she captioned the selfie. “I love these boots woman thank you! Jlo x Giuseppe (Also- yes my closet is a mess. It generally is)”—take a look at her post.

In the picture, Dewan Tatum is wearing the Marisa, a pair of black suede cuissard boots from Giuseppe for Jennifer Lopez’s latest collection, the crystal embellishments really popping thanks to the Kira Kira (and her A+ selfie-taking.)

Copying her look isn’t cheap, though: Those J.Lo-designed kicks will set you back $2,795. Guess we’ll just have to live vicariously through Dewan Tatum’s Instagram for now. Le sigh.
