Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops Review

Restocking used-up beauty products is no one’s favorite activity—well, no one that I’ve met at least. After all, your mascara or foundation is just as expensive the second time around, but this time, you don’t get the added thrill of trying something new. In an ideal world, no tube, stick, or palette would run out before its expiration date—but alas, that’s not the world we live in. Still, if you seek out products with a little longevity, you should be able to cut down on emergency trips to Sephora.

This was the main issue I had with my last go-to highlighter, Glossier’s Haloscope: after maybe two months, I was down to the end of the stick, effectively dragging plastic across my cheek to use up the last of the product. I couldn’t bring myself to buy another so soon, so I grabbed a highlighter at random from the office beauty closet and, as it turns out, it was a very good choice. Cover FX’s Custom Enhancer Drops don’t look or act like your typical highlighter.

For one thing, they’re liquid, and you can mix a drop or two in with your foundation or moisturizer to add a little shimmer, or dab them across your cheekbones, temples, and Cupid’s bow for a more potent effect. I usually do the latter, and even the tiniest bit makes a big difference—I’ve lost count of how many girls in bar bathrooms have complimented me on it (and believe me, that’s a group that knows their highlighter).

There are nine shades in total, ranging from holographic opal to deep, shimmery bronze. I use Moonlight, which is a versatile pale pinkish gold that swatches and YouTube tell me looks good on an improbably large range of skin tones.

Each bottle is $42, a price I might balk at if it weren’t for the fact that they seem to be practically bottomless. When you’re only using a few drops at a time, it turns out 0.5 ounces goes a long way. (Plus, they’re formulated with ultra-concentrated pearls, which just feels fancy, y’know?)

There's a Powerful Hidden Message on Time's' 2017 Person of the Year Cover

You’ve probably seen this year’s cover of Time honoring their person of the year—or, as is the case for 2017, the people who earned this award. Women like Taylor Swift, Susan Fowler, Adama Iwu, Ashley Judd, and Isabel Pascual all among those who make up “The Silence Breakers,” the people who stood up to sexual predators and are now being recognized for “giving voice to open secrets, for moving whisper networks onto social networks, for pushing us all to stop accepting the unacceptable.”

But upon closer review of the cover image, you might have missed an elbow in the bottom right corner that doesn’t belong to any of the women pictured. And as Time national correspondent Charlotte Alter told BuzzFeed News on Wednesday, this was a deliberate—and meaningful—artistic choice: It represents the women who shared their stories anonymously.

“In the bottom left of the cover, there is an arm where you just see the elbow and you don’t see the person,” Alter said. “That’s very intentional. That’s an anonymous woman who is a hospital worker who was experiencing harassment and didn’t feel that she could come forward [publicly].”

As Alter explained, Time wanted to acknowledge that sexual misconduct spreads well beyond Hollywood and impacts women from all walks of life. She pointed to Isabel Pascual, a strawberry farmer who spoke out about the sexual harassment she faced in her job and noted that she shared her story under a pseudonym because she was afraid of retaliation.

“A huge part of this story is that, as much as the stigma around this has been removed this year because of the Me Too movement, it’s still really difficult for a lot of women to come forward,” Alter continued. “It’s important to include people who have to stay anonymous for professional reasons, who don’t have the resources to weather what would happen if they lost their job or they couldn’t support their families. So we wanted to include [these people] to really reference the risk that these women are taking by speaking out about this.”

Pink and Kelly Clarkson Perform a Cover of R.E.M.’s 'Everybody Hurts' at American Music Awards 2017

Two of the music world’s strongest women combined forces for the first time on Sunday night in one powerful duet. To open the American Music Awards, Pink and Kelly Clarkson sang a moving cover of R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” that paid respect to everyone affected by the tragedies of 2017.

“This year, more than perhaps any other in recent history, we needed the power of music to help us heal, from hurricanes, wildfires, hate, hatred-fueled violence. 2017 was a year that tested our faith,” began Jamie Foxx, before he introduced the police officers, EMTs, and other first responders who work tirelessly to save people this year. “In these moments of crisis, heroes emerge. With us tonight are some of the first responders who ran toward the danger, when it would have been so easy to run away.”

“As this year comes to a close, we look forward to 2018 with hope,” Foxx continued. “For even as we mourn those who were lost, we know this: Together, our strength will pull us through. Together, we shall overcome the pain. Together, we can unite as a people and as a nation. Here to pay respect to all those affected by the events of 2017 are two of the world’s most powerful voices coming together for the first time: Pink and Kelly Clarkson.”

The two women joined each other onstage, collaborating for the first time in a stirring rendition of R.E.M.’s hit. Pink opened the song, striding regally across the stage in a leather moto jacket and a black gown covered with red flowers. She was then joined by Clarkson, looking just as queenly in a gold-stitched black gown befitting of her diva status. They belted out the final notes of their emotional duet to a standing ovation.

The two legendary singers had been fans of each other’s work long before this collaboration. Prior to their performance, they tweeted support at each other, each insisting the other was cause for nervous excitement.

“Gonna play it super cool whilst singing with @Pink this Sunday at the #AMAs ….but know on the inside I will be freaking the &$@! out ? #oneofthegreatestvocalistsofourgeneration #sheissorad #sundayissofarfromnow,” Clarkson tweeted on Thursday.

Pink replied, “You’re joking! I am humbly prepared to be outsung:) I adore you and I cannot wait.”

Then, earlier Sunday, both singers captioned the same rehearsal photo with some awwwww-inducing mutual fangirling.

Later on, both vocalists will sing solo. Pink is expected to treat viewers to the title track of her new album, Beautiful Trauma, a performance that will involve an aerial performance by the singer. It’s unclear what Clarkson will perform, but whatever it is, it will no doubt be just as potent as her duet with Pink.

This Video of Pink Watching Fans Cover Her Songs Will Warm Your Heart

Pink‘s voice is among the most recognizable in Hollywood. Her songs are powerful, her messages are clear, and above all, she remains true to herself. That’s why her fans are so loyal to her. If you type any of Pink’s song titles into Youtube, you will find an endless number of covers by her loyal following and young artists who are inspired by her music.

Whether these YouTube singers want to get discovered or they just can’t get enough of Pink’s music, it’s clear that each cover was carefully crafted with the hope that Pink will one day hear it. So when Pink stopped by the Glamour office the other day, we decided to play some of them for her.

And we may or may not have found her some new backup singers, considering many of them actually gave her chills. From fun guitar renditions to soulful acoustic covers, it’s awesome to see how differently her fans interpret her music. You can check them all out in the video, above, and watch Pink’s incredible reactions.

In fact, the singer was inspired to try out new melodies and renditions of her own songs after hearing some of the covers. “Who is this?! That’s better than I will ever sound,” she said in response to one of the cover artists. “Actually, now I know how it’s supposed to sound. That was incredible. Is she a recording artist that makes records and puts records out?” When someone in the background responded “no,” she said, “OK, well, that needs to change. I love that. I want to own that.”
