Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are long over, but Jelena currently lives on in a new song mash-up that’s taken over the Internet. The track came together after music producer Andy Wu realized that Bieber’s “Sorry” and Gomez’s brand new ballad, “Lose You to Love Me”, actually make perfect sense together, so he masterfully remixed them and created a banger that currently has about 1.4 million views on YouTube.
The track starts off with the famous vocal loop from “Sorry,” but it’s played over the piano chords of “Lose You to Love Me.” Then, the song switches between verses from Bieber and Gomez’s respective songs, coalescing into a slower pop jam that is undeniably catchy. Reactions to the mashup are mixed:
“Lose You to Love Me” is Selena Gomez’s reentry into the music scene after a brief hiatus from public life. She released the vulnerable track last month, and fans immediately deduced that lyrics like, “In two months you replaced us like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it in the thick of healing” were about how quickly Bieber moved on to his current relationship with now-wife Hailey Baldwin.
Although the song is emotional, Gomez quickly indicated she’s actually in a great place with another new song, the uptempo “Look at Her Now.” She told journalist Zach Sang in a recent interview , though, that she wants “the individual” her music is about to hear what she has to say.
“For me, my intentions are never evil. They just aren’t. I don’t even know how to do that,” she explained. “I can be a bit snappy, but I always want to come from a place that’s genuine, and when I feel like some things haven’t been said, then I get to turn that into art.”
