Cara Delevingne Opened Up About How Dating Ashley Benson Has Changed Her

When Cara Delevingne and actress Ashley Benson began dating a little over a year ago, Delevingne seemed to keep her personal life a little closer to the vest. Which, fair enough: She’s a celebrity—boundaries must be set! But having Benson in the picture, said Delevingne in a recent Porter interview, has led her to become a more open, trusting person who no longer ‘pushes people away.’ Ah, love.

“I’d never truly let anyone in before, for fear of them leaving,” Delevingne said of life before Benson in the interview, published Friday (September 13). “I never really trusted people, or felt worthy of it, and I always pushed them away.”

But with Benson, she says, that just wasn’t an option: “She’s the first person that has said, ‘You can’t push me away. I’m going to be nice to you, I love you.’ I’m just like, wait, so all I have to do is just let you be nice to me? Why have I never done that before?”

This isn’t the first time the two revealed little bits and pieces of their romance. In June, the duo revealed they were officially dating by posting a video of them kissing on set. The pair even appears to have inked their love with tattoos referencing one another.

Earlier in September, Delevingne shared a bit more of her romantic life during an interview with Elle UK. After the interviewer asked her what love felt like for her, Delevingne replied, “I’m just better when I’m in love.”

“That doesn’t have to mean with someone,” she added. “It can also mean with myself. It just feels incredible when you’re not alone, when you’re facing the world with someone else.”

As to why the pair keep their relationship out of the public eye, Delevingne told Elle UK, “Because it’s sacred. I get why people care so much, and I don’t want to be so secretive that people think I’m ashamed of anything… But I’ve never been in a relationship where things are so public, or where I posted pictures of someone else. This seemed different. We had gotten to the point where we had kept it a secret, or at least not wanted attention, and now I feel like I’m not going to not be proud. Which isn’t the same thing as wanting to pose on a red carpet together, either.”

Each couple has their own style—and it certainly seems like Delevingne and Benson have found the balance that works right for them.

Cara Delevingne Just Opened Up About Her 'Sacred' Relationship With Ashley Benson

In June, after months of speculation, Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson publicly confirmed their relationship with an Instagram video of the two kissing. Since then, they’ve been the subject of marriage rumors and gotten tattoos that appear to reference each other.

But we haven’t really known much about their relationship, until now, thanks to a new interview Delevingne gave to Elle UK. The interviewer, Derek Blasberg, referenced the model-actress’s speech at a Trevor Project event where she’d mentioned that she was in love. “What does love feel like for Cara?” he asked.

“I’m just better when I’m in love,” she said. “That doesn’t have to mean with someone. It can also mean with myself. It just feels incredible when you’re not alone, when you’re facing the world with someone else.”

Delevingne also explained why she and Benson have tried to keep a low profile and not speak too much publicly about their relationship.

“Because it’s sacred. I get why people care so much, and I don’t want to be so secretive that people think I’m ashamed of anything,” she said. “But I’ve never been in a relationship where things are so public, or where I posted pictures of someone else. This seemed different. We had gotten to the point where we had kept it a secret, or at least not wanted attention, and now I feel like I’m not going to not be proud. Which isn’t the same thing as wanting to pose on a red carpet together, either.”

“People make their own assumptions and that’s what worried me. Because if it is something that is so good, you don’t ever want anyone to ever change it, even though people shouldn’t have that power.”

Honestly, that sounds like an extremely healthy approach to trying to have a relationship as a person in the spotlight. Good luck, you two!

Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson Are Reportedly Not Married After All

A Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson wedding would be amazing (and incredibly stylish) if and when it happens—and although an exclusive in The Sun alleged on Sunday (August 4) that Delevingne and Benson tied the knot during a ceremony in Las Vegas, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

According to The Sun‘s report, both Benson and Delevingne wore black as they wed in front of an Elvis Presley impersonator at the Little Vegas Chapel. A handful of guests reportedly attended, including Charlize Theron, Sophie Turner, and the Jonas Brothers. (Turner and Joe Jonas got married in a surprise Vegas ceremony earlier this year.)

But, apparently, none of this happened: A source told E! News that “Delevingne and Benson are not legally married, but did have a fun friendship ceremony about a year ago.” There also was no marriage license for the couple in the Las Vegas public records, E! reports.

Delevingne and Benson have been linked to one another since the summer of 2018. They’ve kept things pretty private and didn’t confirm that they were dating until Delevingne posted an Instagram video in June of this year. She shared a clip from “Her Smell,” a movie they star in together, that shows them kissing and wrote “Pride” in the caption, nodding to this year’s Pride celebration that coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

Later, E! News asked Delevingne about why she wanted to make the post and the news public, and she responded, “I don’t know because it is Pride, it’s been 50 years since Stonewall happened and I don’t know. It’s been just about our one-year anniversary so, why not?”

All the wedding rumors started this summer, when the couple was seen vacationing together in Saint Tropez with matching bands on their fingers. Fans excitedly jumped to conclusions that they’d gotten engaged, but Benson’s mom was quick to seemingly shut it down on Instagram.

Married or not, neither Delevingne or Benson have actually said anything about the wedding—and it’ll be up to them to share any actual relationship updates.

Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson Just Officially Confirmed They're Dating

People have been semi-certain for a while that Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson are dating, but the two officially confirmed the rumors on Friday night (June 14) via—what else?—an Instagram. They reportedly met on the set of the film Her Smell, which was released in April, and have since been snapped kissing in London. Benson’s also been spotted wearing a necklace with “A” and “C” on it and spent Delevingne’s birthday with her. But despite a comment in September by Benson on a ‘gram of Delevingne’s, which seemed to confirm the two were dating (Benson later said she was hacked), there’s been no official word on their status until now.

The Instagram was posted to Delevingne’s account, and it’s basically them making out. Delevingne captioned the ‘gram: “#PRIDE ?❤️??❤️?” and tagged Benson in it.

Benson left a comment of her own: three hearts, which makes it about as official as possible.

The couple’s proud Instagram comes in the wake of a homophobic comment left on a ‘gram of Benson’s by a troll in late April. “Ashley I know you are here,” they wrote, according to BuzzFeed. “I’m serious, you need to stay away from that devil and never go back. I’m sure many strong, handsome, religious man [sic] would take you back in a heartbeat. You are not like this. You aren’t gay. You love men, and you need one.”

Benson and Delevingne promptly clapped back, of course: “You need to mind your own business,” Benson wrote, according to Buzzfeed. “Stop making things up.”

Ashley Benson Pretty Much Confirmed She’s Dating Cara Delevingne With This Instagram Comment

After months of speculation about whether or not they’re dating, Ashley Benson appears to have confirmed her relationship with Cara Delevingne with a single Instagram comment — well, actually, it’s two Instagram comments.

On Monday, Delevingne posted a photo of herself looking gorgeous in a gold Balmain dress, and Benson took to the comments section to declare, “Mine.” She then followed up her initial post with another comment: “I can see your ??.” The exchange was first captured by eagle-eyed Internet sleuths @Commentsbycelebs, who watch celebrities’ Instagram comments to catch news-breaking moments like this one. Welp, that settles that, I guess.

Benson and Delevingne reportedly met on the set of their upcoming film, Her Smell, and have been photographed together multiple times in the past few months, which fueled rumors that they were involved romantically. There were a few signs that the two were possibly a couple — like the fact that they were spotted kissing in London, or that they spent Delevingne’s birthday together, or that Benson had started wearing a Taylor Swift–style necklace with the letter “C” on it — but neither one of them had spoken on the subject until now.

In fact, in a recent interview, Benson noted that she has purposely gone out of her way to keep her relationships private, despite the fact that it’s often challenging to do so. “I mean it’s hard, I don’t know, you kind of can’t get away from that if you’re in the public eye,” she said. “I just kinda try to keep myself as private as possible.”

Now that they’re (maybe) Instagram official, though, we hope that these sweet Instagram exchanges keep on coming.
