Target’s 14 Days of Deals Sale – The Best Beauty Bargains to Shop


Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimized by Target. It’s basically impossible to leave the store without Christmas lights, new throw pillows, a matching PJ set, and half the beauty aisle in your cart, even if you just popped in for toothpaste. It’s hard to resist the store’s charms, especially considering its beauty selection just keeps getting better and better. It’s home to both drugstore standbys like Maybelline and tough-to-find Korean and indie brands.

Now the retailer is making it even harder to leave empty-handed. Target just announced it’s throwing a 14 Days of Deals sale. The two weeks of massive beauty deals run from now until March 23. Each day kicks off a new discount both in stores and online, ranging from 40 percent off foundation to $5 off a best-selling exfoliator. Below, we break down the best deals to shop from the sale. It’s an exercise in self-restraint if we’ve ever seen one.

I Used Only Black-Owned Beauty Brands for a Month, and I'm in Love


Let’s be clear: I’ve always worn my Black Girl crown tall and high, never deflecting the magic that my race carries. But I recently had an epiphany: my beauty routine didn’t always reflect that.

Once only discussed through word of mouth, networks like Instagram and Reddit have helped bubble up black-owned beauty brands to the mainstream. As has the owner of this little makeup brand you’ve probably heard of called Fenty Beauty. You might know her…Rihanna? But according to stats from the U.S. Census Bureau, African-Americans still lag behind other groups when it comes to business ownership. We account for roughly 12 percent of the population, yet we only own just 3.3 percent of businesses. Many reasons go into these factors including less capital, low loan approval rates, and higher interest rates, yet still we push and are on the rise—among these businesses, black women are leading the charge.

From the top of my head, down to my feet, I had to really question myself and see if I had at least one nail polish, chapstick, eyeliner, lipstick, or hair pin by black owners. Even as an experienced beauty writer, the answer was still no. So I decided to go on a detox, putting aside my other beloved brands for a short while to use only black-owned beauty brands for a month straight.

Now, when I say I used only black-owned brands, I mean only—down everything in my shower and medicine cabinet. Yes, even toothpaste. I was worried at first it wouldn’t be possible, but wow was I wrong. Here’s everything I fell in love with over the course of the month.

Lady Gaga's Oscars Beauty Look Included a $26 Mascara


Lady Gaga‘s red carpet season for A Star Is Born has been nothing less than iconic. From her glamorous boat arrival at the Venice Film Festival to her lilac hair at the Golden Globes, the singer/actress—and her glam team—have been serving look after look after look.

Of course, her makeup at last night’s Academy Awards was no exception. It was timeless, classic, and all about those lashes. “Her makeup was all about being soft, fresh, and young. We didn’t want anything to distract from this special moment,” her makeup artist Sarah Tanno said of the look created with products from Marc Jacobs Beauty. For her eyes, Tanno used Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Steel(etto) ($49) for light definition. To line, she used the soft grey Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Steel(etto) ($24). And then, the pièce de résistance: Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara ($26) over the Velvet Lash Primer ($26).

That mascara certainly did its job. It not only stayed put through Gaga’s incredible live performance of “Shallow” with her A Star Is Born co-star and director, Bradley Cooper, it also withstood her emotional acceptance speech for Best Original Song. “If you have a dream, fight for it. I’ve worked hard for a long time, and it’s not about winning,” she said, while radiating on stage. “It’s about how many times you stand up and are brave and keep on going.”

Gaga’s dramatic eye makeup was balanced with a soft, nude lip and glowing skin. For her lips, Tanno applied the creamy nude Le Marc Lip Crème Lipstick in Slow Burn ($30), tapping it on so you could still see the natural texture of her lips. On her skin, she used Shameless Youthful-Look 24-H Foundation SPF 25 ($46), along with the new Accomplice Concealer & Touch-Up Stick in Medium 33 and 36 ($32), which launches in April. Finally, she set the look with another soon-to-launch product, Accomplice Instant Blurring Beauty Powder in Muse ($32), which, according to Tanno, makes skin look airbrushed in photos.

It was almost as if the Oscars camera crew knew we needed a close-up on Gaga’s makeup, so they gave it to us during the “Shallow” performance. Well done by all.

Leaving Netflix in March 2019: Say Goodbye to ‘Beauty and the Beast’


Devastating news, people: Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast is leaving Netflix next month. Yup: The beloved movie, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, will no longer be our guest, so start streaming it now. You have until March 18.

And that’s not the only amazing movie leaving your queues come March. Bruce Almighty , The Breakfast Club , Ghostbusters, and Ghostbusters 2 are all dipping out of Netflix starting March 1. Drop Dead Diva, which first aired on Lifetime in 2009, is also exiting Netflix mid-March. It’s a hilarious, body-positive TV series you should absolutely check out before it goes away.

Don’t worry, though: There are so many great movies and TV shows coming to Netflix in March 2019, like The Notebook and the latest season of Queer Eye. “Before the season started, I actually had a conversation with myself where I was like, Don’t cry as much as you did in the first season, and like, try to make things that are a little more complicated,” Fab 5 member Antoni Porowski said to E! News about what’s to come in season three. “But what I ended up telling myself was, like, Just continue to be vulnerable, let it happen when it happens organically, just be yourself because that’s why you’re here…. So I cry a lot.” We can’t wait.
