Meghan Markle Would've Been Written Off 'Suits' Even if Her Relationship With Prince Harry Didn't Work Out

On the surface, it may appear that Meghan Markle’s departure from USA’s hit legal drama Suits will negatively affect the show going forward—she was one of its most popular stars even prior to her relationship with Prince Harry, after all. But now that she’s engaged to a handsome ginger prince with a royal wedding on the horizon, Suits’ showrunner is coming forward with some truly remarkable sentiments about Markle’s involvement with the show. Mostly, that her departure was actually written over a year ago, owing to an intuition that the duo would later be married.

“I knew from a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning,” Aaron Korsh explained on BBC Radio 4’s Today show, confirming seven season was creatively planned to be her last season. “And I had a decision to make because I didn’t want to intrude and ask her, ‘Hey, what’s going on and what are you going to do?’ So collectively with the writers, we decided to take a gamble that these two people were in love and it was going to work out.”

It turns out that optimism for Markle’s future, mostly, was the fuel for their self-proclaimed gamble. “What we decided to do [was to] say, ‘Look, I would rather have good things happen to Meghan in her life,’ which would likely mean her leaving the show,” Korsh continued. “So let’s plan on that and it’s much easier to undo that, if it came to it, than to just plan on her staying forever and then finding out she’s going to go.” Honestly, kudos on their part for anticipating a real-life fairy tale.

If you’re unfamiliar with Suits, Markle has been playing a headstrong paralegal-turned-lawyer since the show’s debut in 2011. Her final six episodes will begin airing in early 2018, as the network (astutely) decided to break the season up into two parts.

This Instagram Post Really Makes It Seem Like Meghan Markle Is Leaving 'Suits' to Be With Prince Harry

It’s been rumored for weeks that Meghan Markle is planning on relocating to England to be closer to her boyfriend, Prince Harry—but the evidence for this has been thin. First, there was the report that claimed she didn’t renew her Audi car lease in Toronto. Then, the Daily Mail said Markle moved her dogs to the U.K. Both of these stories are circumstantial, though. It’s entirely possible Markle ended her car lease for another reason besides moving across the Atlantic ocean.

But a since-deleted Instagram post from Markle’s Suits stand-in offers more concrete proof. Nicky Bursic, who served as Markle’s body double for two years on the hit USA show, posted a farewell message that seemed to imply Markle is leaving. This, interestingly, corroborates Deadline‘s report that Markle is eyeing to exit Suits after its seventh season.

“It’s been an absolute please and honour being your ‘STAND-IN’ for the last 2 seasons @meghanmarkle. Though I’ve been on @suits_usa for 6 years, the latter 2 [have] been my most memorable. Wishing you all the happiness in the world Bella,” she wrote, adding #youdeserveitall and #loveher,” she posted, according to InStyle.

Think about this for a second. Suits turned Markle into a star. She’s known for it, much like Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit or Ellen Pompeo in Grey’s Anatomy. It seems unlikely she’d leave…unless it was for something big. Something like a move to the U.K.

Of course, we don’t know anything for sure yet. Bursic’s post was deleted, after all, so maybe there’s more to the story than we know. That being said, I think it’s safe to get a little excited about this. It’s the strongest evidence we have that points to a second royal wedding. And my heart isn’t ready.

Meghan Markle Is Reportedly Leaving 'Suits' After This Season

‘Suits’ star and girlfriend of Prince Harry Meghan Markle is officially going to be in a wedding this spring…just not the one you might think.

On Monday Us Weekly reported that Markle, along with co-star Patrick J. Adams, will leave their show Suits when it wraps up season seven.

“He was always leaving the show. He made his mind up a while ago,” a source shared with Us. “Patrick wants to pursue other things and he’s realized his time at Suits has come to an end.” The show itself will reportedly be back for at least two more seasons.

Back to wedding things: Us Weekly reported that there will indeed be wedding bells ringing between Mike, played by Adams, and Rachel, played by Markle, at some point in the second half of season seven. Is this a sign? A rehearsal for impending royal nuptials? We will definitely read into this little scene.

Markles and Adam have been on the show since it kicked off and are apparently good friends, but honestly, we’re just holding out for other wedding bells. Different ones. Royal ones. And we can’t help but wonder at the timing: Royal-watchers around the globe are eyeing this December as prime time for Harry to get down on one knee and propose to Markle. After all, they’re reportedly “as good as engaged.” (Of course, no one’s confirmed whether Markle’s departure has anything to do with a wedding or becoming a royal.)

We’ll stop before we go into over-excited, full-on speculation, but you can bet we’ll be keeping our eyes out for more on these developments.
