11 Movies and TV Shows You'll Be Sad If You Miss This Week

Last year, The Handmaid’s Tale set the Internet on fire for its poignant social commentary and searing performances from Elisabeth Moss, Alexis Bledel, and Samira Wiley—and now the Emmy-decorated series is back for season two. That is, hands down, this week’s pop-culture highlight, but there are some other great TV shows and movies premiering as well. From the return of HBO’s Westworld to Avengers: Infinity War, here are the titles to queue up over the next few days.

Westworld: HBO’s acclaimed sci-fi/western series returns tonight with robots on the edge of global domination and your favorite characters leaving Westworld for a visit to the real world. Fingers crossed Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) are in every frame this season. 9 P.M. ET on HBO

The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special 2018: James Corden is following up two years of primetime carpool karaoke specials with yet another installment. Tune in to watch some of your favorite singers belt out their greatest hits while in motion. Where is my solo? 10 P.M. ET on CBS

Genius: Antonio Banderas returns as Pablo Picasso in the second season of this Nat Geo series, which explores the famous painter’s life, demons, and muses. 9 P.M. ET on National Geographic

My House: This new docu-series shines light on New York City’s queer ballroom scene, where the only way to prove your worth is by vogueing. 10 P.M. ET on Viceland

The Handmaid’s Tale: Hulu’s critically-lauded series based on the classic Margaret Atwood novel returns tonight. We’re picking things right up where we left off, with Offred (Elisabeth Moss) pregnant and on the run from Gilead. Streaming on Hulu

Quantico: Season three of this spy thriller kicks off with Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) hiding in Italy; she’s a fugitive of the United States, and there’s a manhunt to find both her and Ryan Booth. Based on the trailer (below), something tells me Alex isn’t going down without a fight. 10 P.M. ET on ABC

The Best TV Shows of 2018 (So Far)

The best screen work right now is happening on television, full stop. Of course there are some great films currently in the zeitgeist—A Quiet Place is a must-see—but in terms of variety, representation, and just good storytelling, nothing beats TV.

Which means it’s pretty damn difficult to decide what to watch on any given night. The landscape is filled with so many captivating, female-driven shows that provoke, enlighten, and, ultimately, entertain. And this isn’t confined to one genre, either: There are just as many amazing dramas and docu-series as there are comedies. Hell, even some reality shows are bordering on prestige. These 19 shows, in particular, are the ones most likely dominating your news feeds at the moment—and rightfully so. Each is worthy of your attention for a different reason. They certainly have ours.

13 Can't-Miss Movie and TV Premieres Happening This Week

We’re officially in January, so you know what that means: It’s cold AF outside. Well, for most of us, anyway. Sunday, January 7

75th Annual Golden Globe Awards: This is the first major televised awards show of the year. Seth Meyers is hosting, and he’s already promised the show will be politically charged. Hopefully the Golden Globes sets the bar high. 8 P.M. ET on NBC
