The Internet has been going wild for Gigi Hadid’s brand-new Maybelline collaboration. Earlier this month the model and fashion designer confirmed that she’s been working on a collection with the drugstore brand for the past year—and we finally got a look last week. First, we got a peek at her Jetsetter palette, which is perfect for anyone who travels even a fraction of the amount Gigi does. It landed at Ulta on Wednesday and we can confirm: it looks amazing. (It even sold out within hours of launching in the U.K.) Now the entire collection, which will be available October 22 at Ulta, has been revealed, and Gigi is sharing insider tips via Instagram mini-tutorials on how she’s using her products.

Maybelline posted photos of Gigi’s entire East Coast Glam look, which is nude with pink tones and a graphic black cat eye. But we got a behind-the-scenes look at it, too: in a video posted early Saturday morning by the brand, Gigi introduces us to her ultimate nude lipstick—and the genius trick she uses to get the perfect application.

“If you know me, you know I always have to have a nude lip on me my whole life,” she says in the video. “So when I made the Gigi collection for Maybelline, I knew I had to do the perfect nude Gigi lip.” The color she chose to create it is called Taura, after her zodiac sign (Taurus), and it’s warm with just a hint of a rosy undertone.

Gigi starts off with a little concealer on her lips, because they’re naturally very pigmented (#gigiproblems)—and that’s when she shares her brilliant lipstick hack.

“Some people do it, I think, opposite, but I do lipstick first, then lip liner—just because I think it’s easier for me to line my lips, and I don’t do anything wonky and weird,” she explains.

So she applies the lipstick all over, and then defines the edges with a little liner. It makes so much sense, right?

For anyone who has ever struggled with getting lip liner right (we can’t all be expert over-liners like Kylie Jenner), putting lipstick on first and then sealing it in with liner makes a ton of sense. The concealer on her lips acts as a primer, then the lipstick goes on top, and the drier formula of the liner sets the color.

In theory, contour seems like the dreamweaver of beauty techniques. A dusting of powder under your cheekbones, a slight shadow on the side of your forehead, and if Instagram is to believed, just like that you’re a sculpted piece of artwork with cut-glass features. In reality? No. Contouring: Game of Shadows sounds like a YA franchise, but it’s on the money—this stuff is hard. So when I sat down in a makeup artist’s chair at an Artis event a few weeks ago, I was determined to leave with her most basic, dumbed-down, 100-percent-can’t-mess-up contouring trick. What I learned: contouring’s golden rule is legitimately foolproof.

According to makeup artist Liani Reyes, the trick has actually been in front of us this whole time. Just by force of habit, I used to follow classic Instagram vlogger protocol and suck in my cheeks before dusting contour powder in the hollows (you know, the “fishy face” method). While that helps with general placement, Reyes says the technique actually has most people extending their shadow too far forward, which is how contour veers from believable into the land of, “ah, everyone can see I tried to do this and failed.” You wouldn’t naturally have a shadow fall super far down your face, so when you do, it loses the placement that makes contouring convincing. Not trying to say “we’ve been lied to,” but fishy face: how could you?

The rule Reyes lives by instead is stupid easy. Pull a fishy face again, and ready your contour brush. Then, sweep your powder into the hollow under your cheekbone, but stop blending directly below where your eyebrow ends. Done. It’s just that easy. As Reyes explains, the imaginary eyebrow barrier is like a bowling lane bumper for your contour. And I can confirm: after using the technique for a few weeks, I haven’t looked like I have dirt on my face once. I look like I have cheekbones, and it’s not stressful. It’s incredible.

As for what contouring product you choose, I’m ride or die for Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sculpting Contour Powder, which hits the ideal gray-toned brown to look like a shadow on my cool skin. In general, makeup artists like Sir John say that your contouring product of choice shouldn’t be more than two colors deeper than your skin tone. Light to medium complexions should look for taupe and similar gray brown shades, while women with dark skin tones should go warmer and pick up slightly reddish options like Benefit’s Hoola Cream-to-Powder Quickie Contour Stick.

Deciding between textures, it’s your call. Sheer-leaning powders like the Aucoin are good for beginners, while creams are more dramatic if you’re heading into a night of dim lighting. Whichever product you go with, rest easy: with your eyebrows to guide you, it’s tough to mess up.

Okay, yes: we’re addicted to any beauty tips the Kardashians & Co. give. But given the camera-ready state the family lives in at basically all times, each sister has picked up so much info that at this point, they’re pros themselves. And no surprise, the model among them is especially skilled at creating a glow on-set and off—according to Kendall Jenner, thank the constant proximity to the best hair and makeup artists in the world (yeah, that’ll do it). Today, she let fans in on a few of her go-to beauty tricks, and the way she uses bronzer will kind of blow your mind.

Running Vogue through her whole makeup routine—all of two minutes and six seconds, down from Khloe’s 20 minutes and Kim’s [how many hours she has available that day]—the tips came out fast and furious. Starting with Esteé Lauder’s concealer, she dotted it all over, then patted it in with her finger. Pretty straightforward, as is her brow routine: a quick brush up and fill-in sitch, with a quick story detour into adolescent eyebrow plucking trauma (relatable). And then arrives the moment you’re going to want to rewind—she takes her bronzer and a fluffy brush, and pinches the brush to make it even thinner.

Cheeks sucked in, she dusts bronzer with the brush in the hollows below her cheekbones, down her neck, and behind her ears (another signature Kar-Jenner trick, it’s certainly excessive, but since they’re photographed from literally every angle it makes a ton of sense). It’s a simple but helpful trick for concentrating your bronzer exactly where you want it, which is crucial for face-defining and those of us who don’t own a different brush for every need. And the bronzer wasn’t done yet: Kendall swept it on as eyeshadow too, for even more warmth all over. She added mascara and a few dabs of lipstick and lipgloss, and voila, out the door.

We’ve learned so much, but the best is still to come. Looking at her (perfectly fine) low bun, she said, “Honestly, this is as good as it’s going to get for my hair. I’m not a great hairstylist.” Was she referencing the iconic *Princess Diaries* scene? There’s no way to be sure, but we can hope.
